The Time it Takes to Post Text and Context Articles to Google – Does it Pay?

Discussions Concerning Search Engine Optimization

————————————–

How have you been? I imagine you stay pretty busy with everything you have going on. I had sent you a DUI Foundation article on the prevention of drunk driving. I had forgotten I sent it until earlier today when I was looking through some files. Any chance you posted that? Thanks for checking!

Actually I’m researching the web right now for a script to help me automate the process of submitting webpages like yours. Not sure how long it will take me but I can contact you once I’m done if you like. I plan to make sure each webpage is a unique url, seo friendly, can be moderated to prevent spammers and so on. I want to make it quality. Feel free to post your article elsewhere if you like.

Wow, you are busy! Your plans for a new addition to your site sound interesting. It’s totally find with me that you haven’t posted it. After all, it is your site and you are doing me a favor by doing so. Therefore, I’m in no position to second guess the material you do and do not post. If you want to wait to post it, and the article script is something you definitely plan on doing, then that’s fine if you wait to post it. However, if the article script isn’t something you will definitely do, or if it’s going to be a few months before it’s up and running, then I would like to have the opportunity to submit the article somewhere else and then write you a new one when you do in fact have the script up.

Basically, I try to keep the articles relatively shorter. I understand you put a lot of time and effort into your webpages and that creating a webpage for a short article may not be worth your time. Most websites don’t create pages as unique as yours so it is worth it for me to keep the articles simple and shorter in nature. It is also more beneficial for organizations like the DUI Foundation (and for the prevention of DUI incidents) if I write a hundred short articles and get them posted on 100 different sites than it is for me to write a few longer articles for only a few websites. The main objective for the DUI Foundation is to get the word out to as many people as possible that they are there to educate and help you. Once someone realizes they exist, they can always visit the website for more information if the article does not include it. Therefore, the article doesn’t have to be a masterpiece by any means.

It’s totally fine if you decide it’s not worth it for you to post it. It happens every once in awhile so I’m used to it. I wouldn’t want to put you in a position where adding content I send you will ultimately hurt your website instead of help it. In most cases, adding article content helps a website. In your case, I can see where a short article might not fit in as well and could possibly work to the disadvantage of the site as far as design is concerned. There is no doubt in my mind that the information is valuable, however. It just might be better suited on a different website, and that’s totally understandable. I should also mention that while I do put time and effort into the articles, I do write a bunch of articles each week, so I tend to only take a few hours on each one. So, if it doesn’t get posted right away, it isn’t a huge deal. In this case, I know you have a good site and that it is put together well so when you said I could submit it, I jumped on the opportunity. That doesn’t mean you have to post it. I just hope it’s okay that you allow me to submit it someplace else if it’s going to be awhile before you post it. Naturally, it only helps prevent DUI’s if it’s posted somewhere for someone to read. I can always write you another one should you want to post one for the DUI Foundation in the future. Let me know what you feel is best for you and your website. Either decision is cool with me and totally understandable. You’ve already posted two of my articles. I am very thankful for that. Thanks again for your help.

yes, quite busy. Recently I’ve started learning php and making dynamic webpages, and have a new project to put a database online, which I find quite enthrawling. I save many of my outgoing emails, because I type fast, and aLOT, and eventually put them up on the web as original content. Organise it by categories and usually about 20,000 characters per page. I have much content to put up and not gotten around to it, and find that the work involved in putting up your little webpages, with the little content it has, is not benefitting me so well, considering the relative investment of time for the small amount of text. But it did make me think I’d like to find a script whereby people can submit their own articles, and add their own pictures etc. How much time did you spend on your last article? Would it bother you to wait until I have the article script up and running?

unfortunately, you’ll have to submit it yourself. I just don’t have the time to manually make pages for submitted articles. I will continue to study and promote this site, and try to make things as simple as possible, and write some instructions if necessary. I think that the most recent submissions get broadcast on the front page, no matter what category they are placed in. I am still learning it myself. The advantage of the categories, as I understand it, is that the names of the categories end up in the permalink, which should help with keywords. The title you choose will also become part of the address of the page you submit. Still learning and I will try to make everything clear in an instructions file, as I tweak it etc.

The blog looks like it’ll work great.

The only suggestion I can think of (which you probably already thought about) is to create an archive list that organizes the articles by month once they start flowing in. That might be easier than separating the articles by category each time one gets posted. Although, I suppose you could create separate categories and an archive list under each category, but you might wind up with 500 categories. As far as adding the article, do I upload/add it myself? Or do you post it? If you post it, do you need me to resend the article?

——————————————-

heydo, had an idea concerning the submission of articles to my site, as one person wanted to submit some and I just didn’t have time to deal with it, after uploading two of his articles. So I started hunting around the web for fancy script, seeing I’m becoming such a php guru, actually paid 10 bucks for one, but before I got that up and running I also installed WordPress, cause I thought I could use that for submitting articles. The dude already submitted his own article, and now I’m learning about wp plugins and themes and all that, and quite amazing. Once I’m done learning with all that I could give you my tweaks if you like. You could use it for the same purpose. The advantage of this is that others actually put up their original content on your site and do basically work for you for free, hee hee. Extra content helps your traffic, and of course you can moderate everything. I’m gonna set it up so that every submitted page will have links to my important pages. Can show it to you once its done. Just downloaded a shitload of plugins, so need to study and install them.

yes WordPress is the darling of web publishing. when I first looked at it last year there was too much I didn’t understand (php etc.) but I could see its value. people I know run their entire website as a blog, using WordPress. when they update their blog, the post appears on their home page in what looks like normal .html. its another very useful thing to learn, for sure. its largely agreed upon to be ‘the way of the future’ (not like other tools, that are already falling behind).

well, not sure the “way of the future” at all. I think it’s good for people who have poor or no html skills and who just want to copy in some text and press “upload picture”, but for real developers, who are behind most of the top streaming websites, something like wordpress is a bit ridiculous because you simply have too little control. The reason why I started using it is because I don’t have the time to upload people’s submitted web content for them, and I want to automate this process and step away from it, like I did with my link exchange site. Yes, I still have to moderate it, but that takes a lot less time than to have to moderate it AND create the webpages etc. For my own travel blog, I still prefer to make the webpages myself, because I can do it quickly, and control things a lot more. But it’s certainly cool learning this wordpress thing and I’m putting together a might nice automated article submission site. As I write this now

Friend-pictures-of-Thailand_017_21_12

Friend-pictures-of-Thailand_017_21_12

I just finished writing up my Article Submission page, written to attract all those dudes out there wanting to submit their various articles to other domains so that they can link back to their own. Big industry in itself. Anyway, hats off to wordpress. Really cool shit. Just another open source thing, and the plugins and billions of geeks spending their free time developing it make it really robust. With free google docs, ubuntu and all that, I can see Microsoft eventually having a problem, because everything will be for free! They already admitted they totally fell asleep on the search engine thing. Google make 26 billion a year from advertising, which is catching up to Micro’s 42 billion, which is from software sales. Will be interesting to see how things develop over the next five years, but pirate me is certainly into free and open source!

oh ya, and one thing just occurred to me. Once you put in that php code which forced the form page to be logged into and not openly available to the public, it will also block the google ads. You should still get money for it, but google wont be able to see the page, so it is possible that the ads will not relate properly to the content. Or if they do relate to the contents, it doesn’t have much useful contents to relate to, such as the postal address of some company. I would suggest you surf your site and look at the google ads and see if it is something interesting which the users might want to click onto. If it is not, then you wont make much money from it, with you? In this case I would suggest you do what I did for one of my pages. At an empty table at the bottom of your first page, with the first row set at a certain large height. This will push the following text well below and out of probably perusing by the user. Then you add a bunch of text pertinent to how you want to affect the google ads theme and to what you think the users will want to click on. Make the text long enough to overcome the dbase results data on the page, and don’t use any spam techniques on it, such as really really small text, or text which is the same colour of the background (hiding it). Google recognises these tactics and will probably penalise your pages in some way. For the first line or two of this text I usually explain to the user, if they happen to scroll down that far, what I am doing and that they can just ignore the text. Once you’re done with that and happy with the results, then go to you account (either its in your google ad section, or your google webmaster tools account) and go through the laborious and slightly painful procedure of telling google what your (some) login and password details are, hence giving it access so that it can read this text. Have fun!

responding to your later email I havent downloaded yet, I’m going to try and make a major addition to my travel blob, concerning Cyprus after treeplanting. Want me to add you to the blob notification thing? Otherwise, for SEO, for a long time I’ve been saving my outgoing emails (since I write so many letters) and organising them into categories, so another option is to read my outgoing travel emails, some of which can be pretty interesting as I tell little tidbit stories here and there, but I’d say overall it won’t be as interesting as the travel blob itself cause you have to filter through less interesting stuff and I usually write it without proofreading. For SEO the more text the better and this has been turning out to be a good strategy. Considering the little amount of time I have to work on my pages they are doing half decently, and should take off once I’m making enough to hire someone fulltime, which I hope to do after I pay off enough debts and if the work keeps coming in as it is. The page I once showed you is pretty high up on google for “cheap travel europe” and “cheap Europe tour guide” and stuff like that, but only got one bite so far. Need to figure out a way how to hook up with travellers occasionally to make my own experience more interesting and to make a bit of cash on the side. Any ideas? I also want to make another php database site for caravanning share-a-ride Europe, which doesn’t seem to exist. Dynamic pages are good because other people add the content and the pages constantly get updated, which is great for seo. Recently been trying to move that direction and keep adding dynamic stuff, but too busy with translations. At least I’m making cash and I work on my projects in between. Recently decided that this will be a good new focus – an interesting strategy whereby I will not even have to deal with customers anymore, and apply my creativity to create webcontent which brings in its own revenues in different ways. Kinda like google or facebook etc. Want to get away from translating and apply my noodle more. Getting too old to still be doing grunt work. laterbro

In order to become a skilled translator a person needs to start young and have mastery over more than one language. A polyglot can set his terms and lie and work the way he wants to. The road to mastering languages is not easy. Unlike mathematics or physics, language is closely linked to traditions and culture of its native place as also usages peculiar to the country of its adoption. It is advantageous to start the language learning process at a young age and parents can imbue their children with a love for a language by placing them in appropriate language courses. For instance if you want your child to join a German course Europe has some of the best, world class language schools located in Germany and Switzerland. Besides the schools offering a German courseEurope has many other attractions, all easily reachable with a few hours of travel. The continent is replete with history and culture closely tied to languages.

ESLLanguageSchoolis one of the very few global language schools that actively promote tourism and language learning. It is one of the few to actively organize summer camps for youngsters aged 10 to 17 in its associated prime partner schools in Switzerlandand Germany. The focus is just as much on learning a language as it is on leisure time activities to provide for a thrilling vacation. ESL believes that youngsters imbibe so much more when the learning process is mixed with other absorbing activities. When it comes to German course Europe based summer camps in ESL partner schools incorporate these principles in a practical, enjoyable, affordable and rewarding way.

ESL offers summer camps for youngsters in Zug, the German speaking part ofSwitzerland. It also has arrangements in Westerwald andBerlinfor youngsters wishing to take up German language studies. In each location students live together with others in the same group in a safe, supervised and well managed facility. They learn to interact, share and enhance their German language experience in the classroom as also through excursions and plenty of sports and entertainment activities. Courseware is structured and leads from one level to the next. Hopefully some might just go on to the highest stage and become acclaimed translators in future, courtesyESL.

How to Search Engine Optimize your WordPress Blog and Transfer your Existing Blogger Account

2012
06.21

The following were instructions for a client after his google blogger account was transferred to WordPress, regarding its new search engine optimization and transfer of SEO from his blogger as well.

Here are some initial notes on your new WP:

– what is the purpose of the blog? I’ve been learning a lot about increasing conversions and if you want these submitted articles to lead to some sales, this needs to be evident on every page.

Looking at your existing plugins:

Akismet

WordPress

WordPress (Photo credit: Adriano Gasparri)

I activated yours with my code. This helps stop spammers (SEO trollers) from posting garbage comments on your site. Less to deal with. I assume you will be the only one posting articles and suggest I can set it so no one else can become an author (increased security) and that commenters do not need to register to leave a comment. The comments will come to you by email, and if you see one that’s useful you can press the weblink to approve it. Good comments are good, because they add useful info, shows interaction, and updates the page occasionally with new comment. Someone else working for you. Google likes fresh and frequently updated pages, so it boosts your rankings.

Blogger Importer and Categories to Tags Converter Importer

My guess is your guy used these to import and no longer needs them. Better to uninstall (I can do all this but just need your approval for each point – above and below) any plugins you no longer use, because they can slow down the server/your pages loading, which is not good for google.

Coastal-rock-formations-near-Paphos-Cyprus_0070

Pictures of my travels: Coastal-rock-formations-near-Paphos-Cyprus_0070

Configurable Tag Cloud

Maybe ask your guy what this is for. Seems unnecessary and I may have better options.

Hello Dolly

I always delete this. Comes as default with every installation and I see no point to it (slowing down server..).

Jetpack

Again, useful?

Registered Users

Seems unnecessary and can replace it with better plugins.

SEO Blogger

If it does what it says, perfect. Can you give me your blogger address so that I can check? Once its been switched no more need for the plugin, so would suggest uninstalling it.

Under Construction

Suggest uninstall.

WP Google Maps.

Do you plan to have maps on your site? If not I’d recommend uninstalling this. Besides, you can put in maps using normal html techniques (I can show you how) and don’t need a plugin, especially if it will be a rare incident.

Attached you will find a Word file called “WP Text” which I wrote for some Africans I was making webpages for as part of my charity project. I set them up an Author account in the WP so that they could make new pages easily (on top of the main one I made for them). You should follow the same principles.

Continuing from that, the below explains the following plugins I installed:

All in One SEO Pack

Refer to attached file I mentioned whenever making a new post. You can go back to old posts and add these. Will help with SEO. Best to open up the output pages in another tab and use the SEO Quake I mentioned to find out the most common keywords, and preferably use those in some combination within your page’s Title, Description and Keywords. The Description should not be exactly like the title but a few more extra words added, different each time. For Keywords use the important words in the title, separated by a comma.

Before I activate the plugin I need to know what you want for Title, Description and Keywords for the main entry page.

AntiVirus

For this and other security plugins, refer to How to Set up and Properly Secure WordPress.

Coastal-rock-formations-near-Paphos-Cyprus_0076

Coastal-rock-formations-near-Paphos-Cyprus_0076

Contextual Related Posts

Adds “related posts” links at the bottom of each post. Good to give readers an option to surf the rest of your site. If you don’t like any of these just tell me and I’ll uninstall them.

Custom Headers and Footers

Useful but also because I need to put a google analytics script (and possibly others) into the header (not seen by the viewer) so we can get these important stats.

Enhanced Linking

This is by Zemanta, which I have been informed of recently. Seems good. One of their tools (another explained below). Makes it easy to link to important third part sites (most of the time wiki pages – as I explained should be good and safe). Best to interlink most (explained below), but a few links outside of your site (per page) is good in the eyes of google. They want the traffic to flow and you not to be so selfish and closed pointing only to your own links.

Google XML Sitemaps

Very important, as now every time you add a new page or post this widget will inform google and other search engines of it.

SEO Smart Links

A great plugin and automates the interlinking of your pages automatically, just like wiki does and which really helps with rankings. Check out the plugin under Settings and make sure you understand. For example, lets say you had a post talking about names, and the post was focused on the keyword names. With this plugin you can set it so that, for example, every time “name” or “names” is mentioned in some post, it will automatically link from that word (or words) to that particular post. You can play with over time every time you write an important page like this that you would like linked to.

Dubrovnik-croatia-03

Dubrovnik-croatia-03

WP-Polls

I have not activated this plugin but something you might consider to get your viewers interacting more. The more they interact the more they are likely for an eventual conversion/sell.

Zemanta

Easy tool to help you add pictures to posts, link out to third party pages (a few per page is good), and add tags that relate to your site.

Some Notes

Permalinks

If you go to Settings > Permalinks I would suggest choosing “Day and Name”, in case you accidentally choose the same title twice. But I see the guy changed it to Custom as the post title, which is good enough if you never use the same title. As

http://onwardtoourpast.com/genealogy-announcement-here-comes-the-translation-from-1895-of-clevelands-early-czech-community-first-time-ever-in-english-only-here-and-free.html

permalinks is good because it uses the Title for the web address, strengthening the keywords boost.

Use Headings, when you can, in your post

Dubrovnik-croatia-06

Dubrovnik-croatia-06

In Word you can go to Tools > Customize > Keyboard button > Styles, then choose a shortcut key for each of Heading 1, 2 and 3. I like to use Alt 1, 2, 3. Make different heading levels when starting new sections, and focus on the usual keywords for that page. Proper use of keywords in headings helps with rankings. Much of the formatting in Word transfers well into WP, and often easier to write your posts offline in Word. The attached file < explains some points about formatting in Word and which formatting gets lost when transferring to WP.

Social Share

Noticed you had this at the bottom of each post. Good but could not find the plugin for it. Would suggest changing to an AddThis widget as I have, for example, at

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/submit-articles/2012/06/20/webpage-can-make-big-bucks-through-google-link-search/

It includes the new G+ google social sharing button and I have a feeling that this will become increasingly important, as google has started heavy with this not long ago, after a long beta phase.

Update frequently

Dubrovnik-croatia-11

Dubrovnik-croatia-11

For security measures good to update once in a while – both the WP itself and the individual plugins. I find that sometimes updating the security problems can cause problems, so best practice is to backup the database first. I installed a Backup widget to facilitate this but have not activated it yet, as I have not used it myself, but it has a good rating among other users. If something happens, you can always use the backup to go back to a previous state.

Copyright Content

And lastly, please do not post this text or the attached file, as I would like to post it myself eventually. If you have interesting email communication with anyone on the subject of your site, you can post that as well. All original content is a big plus in google’s eyes, which logs who posted the site first and credits them more. If a high traffic site nabs it quickly they can potentially take it from you, but hopefully the Sitemap plugin will resolve that. Otherwise disabling feeds is an option.

Okay, will add some google analytics script now and let it sit for a few days. I’ve given you plenty of homework and feel free to ask me questions. These points are all important for SEO or whenever adding new posts. Good that you left blogger and moved to WP, because you can really get down to custom nitty gritty and the blogger tool is quite limited. Used it for a while, but kept my pages there, as they do serve some purpose (was experimenting).

Happy playing!

Karel

Oh yah, and forgot Post Ratings plugin where readers can vote on articles. Could be good for interaction. Want that?

*Akismet* — Yes, I will be only author. Fine on the non-registration of comments too.

Okay, made all these changes. People who want to post comments do not have to register but you have to approve their comment, which you receive by email or can see in the dashboard. All thse settings can be changed any time.

*Jetpack — *I used it for looking at visits, views, stats, etc. If there is a better option, fine with me!

Checked it out and would suggest removing it. Already got hooked up with google analytics [GA] and that shows much more powerful and knowledgeable stats. I can give you access to peruse it. I also set up google webmaster tools, for further stats, research and problem reporting.

For the site itself you might consider using the Views widget/plugin, available on all my blog pages (I use it to easily post new content), such as on

Like the Recent Post, just another way people might click on an article (most read). The widgets/these menus would appear according to the style of the theme, and you can place such content anywhere.

*QUESTION:* * * *1) You asked about what words I want in the title, Description and keywords for main entry page. Not sure where this is or what exactly.*

With any page you right mouse click on and select View Page Source, you should see the title, description and keyword METAs at the top in the header. These appear in the search results on google, and are used for searching, so rather important. We should probably brainstorm over what keywords you are really after (although I think we already did do this, so I can dig up my previous notes). The strategy all grows from there. You need to know what keywords your customers are using to find you. Did I already mention to you this free service?

<oops, can’t reveal all my secrets for free!>

Good to study and play with to get an idea what keywords people are using to fnd your service.

lincin-montenegro-1

lincin-montenegro-1

*2)  Update frequently?  update what?*

When you log in as administrator to WP you will see little statements or signs that things need to be updated. Such as the version of WordPress, which they update frequently, also for security reasons. But better practice to backup first, if possible. Then plugins should be updated too, and you will see little warnings in their places. Also next to the Plugin menu. You can update a bunch at once.

London-scenery.0019

London-scenery.0019

*Finally:* * * *Love the idea of the WP Polls. I use them on FB a lot and folks like them! Cool.
Activated, so play away. You can put in posts or into the frontpage. The frontpage can be easily changed.

*Go with Social Share is fine with me. I am on Google+, but don’t use a lot yet.*

Okay, so keep this as is. Looking forward to watch it grow! Karel

——————-

I reset permalinks to day and name.

Looks like you switched it yourself. Keep in mind that this loses all the previous pages and you are basically starting at the very beginning of everything. Which would be fine considering the small amount of your traffic, but WAIT! Now I fear the referral links from blogger will be pointing to nothing, so I guess you should reconsider this. The script he had in custom is now gone and would need to be replaced if you want to go to the previous system. It might be better to go back to the previous and just make sure never to duplicate. Or you can try to duplicate on purpose and I imagine it will inform you of the duplication and require you to use something else.

Which do you suggest?  The plugin or XX?

Plugin is easier but with XX you can hit a lot more people, but will require you set up accounts at all those services and give XX your username and password for each of them. Not absolutely painful but for 40 services could take roughly 8 hours.

Please feel free to contact me concerning my search engine optimization services.
I can also help you set up WordPress, Web Design, programming, databases and so forth.

Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Discussions Concerning Search Engine Optimization

coolness. Hey, cant believe it but did a random check and found my site at the top of google for “translation service“. Is it like that on your end as well? Been downloading a bunch of software and will try to get more serious with all this. Definitely need the work…

beautiful-Prague_0177 Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Prague.

Yeah, I see the link below is 5th from bottom on second page of search

My title is “Translators translation French to English” on my London index page. I change the title , trying diff combinations For all-texts.com I am at top for “Translation service los angeles”

hmm, just did a search for

Translation service los angeles

and found mine on top and yours in third. Must have been doing something right recently. I asked my sister and I was on the fifth page for google.ca, and for her top of the third page when she used google.com. Apparently quite the discrepancy. In any case, will keep plugging away at it and think it should only improve, because I’ve learned some interesting tricks recently. Think that the software and ebooks should help. If you like I can make you a simple Flash for yourLondonor whatever pages like I did for my SEO page. Kind of like making movies and rather fun. Or perhaps better, I could teach you how to do it yourself and you can play all you want in your spare time. I rather enjoy it.

Be sure to log off Google adwords or Google before you search for your agency. I put in my words and found I was #1, but that is because I clicked that thing on URL when I was signed in and when I searched just a min ago I was logged in. It will show your site #1 if you are logged in and have clieck those arrows

Yah, that’s google very new experiment, which I quite dig. It’s like those diggit bookmark things, where people can vote on pages. If you click on those things you are telling google which sites are important to you – I don’t do that, cause I want neutral results. But perhaps google remembers which pages you visit, so I’ll try logging out and see if it affects the results. Eventually I believe google will incorporate the votes from all people into its regular algorithm, even though it denies this. We’ll see. People power is good I say.

beautiful-Prague_0178 Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Prague

heh heh, so now I’ve made an extra 20 bucks for outlinking, this time to my goofball kenax.net directory. I’ve submitted my pages to 300 directories for 35 bucks, and I see how all of them are desperately trying to get any cash, so it seems strange this guy is offering me an “so much” for this little bitty outlink. Well, better than a kick in the arse and might as well take it, heh heh

so you made 20 bucks already on something that you paid 35 bucks for? that’s pretty good.I’ve got someone who saw my resume online (from like 2 years ago) wanting to interview me for art work. Hope its worth doing! will fill it out tomorrow..

No, the 35 bucks is a separate thing. That is for “backlinks”. The more websites pointing to me the better my pagerank. The 35 bucks submitted my page (70 bucks for two pages) to 300 directories, which are like Yahoo or my kenax.net. But I saw how they all tried to get some money out of me, at most 20 bucks for the link. So the fact that he offered me 20 bucks for my piddly little directory seems promising. He also wrote an article for my computer tips pages, which will link back to his pages. So I am getting free content at the same time. So I’m learning the importance of these various links, and link exchanges, and that it must be done properly to be effective to google (since its new algorithm against the widely used practice).

On another note, downloaded some software and gonna try to set up an auto directory where people can submit their links and it gets handled automatically, as long as they link back to me (which the script checks). Will do that for those who have a zero or nonexistent pagerank, blab blab

Kotor Montenegro Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Kotor, Montenegro

oops, didn’t meant to scare you with the subject!

Anyway, had one of my goofy ideas how to survive. But warning you, it’s pretty goofy! Anyway, I’m sure I already mentioned to you a few times about my google ad revenues. Not much, but occasionally something happens and I make a few bucks. Like a few days ago I added ads to one of my pages and the next day I got four bucks from that page alone! Did you happen to click on the ads? That got me thinking and today I started experimenting, clicking on the highest paying ads myself, and it works! I can do my translations or whatever I’m doing, and every few minutes I go back to the pages, do a little clicking, and right back to work. Today is my first day doing it and it doesn’t seem difficult to get to ten bucks a day, which is roughly what I need to survive. Of course, the plan is to get regular websurfers to do this for me, and in such high quantity that the revenues could be half decent, like advertising on tv or radio, but for now I’ll gladly do it myself. And if you feel ambitious and would like to feel like you are supporting your desperate little son somewhere over there on some island, you can click on some too! I made a little webpage describing how to best do it, and I am just now experimenting with it, so I am sure it will not take long before I find the most effective and efficient means how to accomplish this. But at least I now now I can survive and have hit bottom!

Kotor Montenegro 2 Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Kotor, Montenegro

okay, today I’m up to 6.25$ on google adwords and I only clicked on the same page twice during a 24 hour period. Think I will try for three times next. There must be some time frame when they wont let you get away with more. In the same time frame I also tried another high paying job of mine and I got 0 bucks for each click. So I’m focusing on my highest paying page only. I’m thinking I might even be able to do some research and find out who the highest bidders are, write up a bogus webpage to geth their ads on my page, and click happy that way. On the other hand, perhaps the revenues are higher because my page is near the top of google in that related keyword search. Quite possible. If I can click three times a day I could get it up to 10 bucks (not including all my other pages), and if the proxy server thing works, I should be able to get 10 bucks for each proxy, so it could turn into something interesting! Once I get into a rhythm I might be able to make 20 bucks a day or more for about 15 minutes work. Something you might consider, considering your financial situation? That’s 600 bucks a month. Better than a kick in the ass I would think. Will keep ya updated.

——————————————

So you know how to auto redirect pages? That’s what I did when I stopped using my kenax.cz domain. Everything directed, but important how you go about it too.

no I don’t but figured there must be a way. will search about to find out how when I get a chance to actually transfer everything.

Redirecting is easier than snot and here the code for one of my pages:

<html>

<head>
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=windows-1250″>
<title>This page should automatically redirect</title>
<meta name=”description” content=”This page has changed location and should automatically redirect.”>
<meta http-equiv=”refresh” content=”4;url=http://kenax.net/fatty-lumpkin.html”>
</head>

<body bgcolor=”#FFFFFF” text=”#000000″ topmargin=”0″ leftmargin=”0″>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

&nbsp;&nbsp; This page should automatically redirect to
<a href=”http://kenax.net/fatty-lumpkin.html”>
http://kenax.net/fatty-lumpkin.html</a>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
</body>
</html>

That would be the code for the entire webpage. Just make sure you copy/paste the new link into all three spaces. Test it yourself – real easy. Once you have that set up then everything is transferred properly, including PR, by the search engines. For example, as I was learning about SEO, I would redirect pages that my webdesigners had made, renaming them from something like: /stuff/jobs/t_index.html to /translations/jobs/Czech-to-English.html. Now all of a sudden I had four important keywords in the address alone, which I would obviously match in the page’s Title (Czech to English Translation Jobs), which would be the same as the Heading 1 text at the top of the page, and the keywords, and throw that in some manner into the Meta Description. That’s how you do it baby!!! So whether your redirecting pages to another server or on the same server, this redirect script is the way to do it.

Kotor Montenegro 3 Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Kotor, Montenegro

I just notice that flikr is high up on google searches a lot of the time, so I want to set up an account and interlink stuff, like perhaps a Croatia pictures album pointing to my Croatia webpage etc.

I’m all about whoring myself out on free services. Flickr has a good system of groups too, that you can join and promote your photos even further, more specifically.

Yah, whoring is fun. I like being a slut. Just need to make some money for my skinny little white ass.

so my main webpage dropped to 29th for the keyword search “translation service”, but the goofy youtube video I made is like 15th.  well I heard a thing about being careful about competing with yourself. Also certain mediums are given higher priority; like my blog gets about half its search traffic from Google Images. Also I think because that video is newer than the actual page it might have popped up higher at first? maybe?

No, can’t hurt, if each page supports the other, and its all interconnected. Like Simona’s “london pottery” page, the youtube, google business local, and my html page are all pointing to one another. I hope to add to that flikr etc. All interconnected and pointing to one another. Doesn’t really matter which one ends up higher, as there are links to each.

Kotor Montenegro 4 Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Pictures of my travels, here in Kotor, Montenegro

You careful about your keywords thing on all your eagle videos?

yeah I am but I got myself into a bit of a pickle because I registered my domain and did my website long before I started doing the eagle photo thing. So everything became all munched together. I’ve just registered wildbaldeagles.ca, and will transfer all the eagle stuff there (after this week, which is a nightmare because I have a monster convention to go to, luckily its in town) and I guess I have to redirect all my eagle pages from ketadesign.ca to the new site. Then I will redesign ketadesign.ca to look like a proper graphic/web design site.

So you know how to auto redirect pages? That’s what I did when I stopped using my kenax.cz domain. Everything directed, but important how you go about it too.

Also, one thing I learned is that you should make sure your titles and descriptions are different for each page. But you can go something like Title: American eagles 1 American eagles 2

yeah that’s totally what I do, you told me a long time ago not to alt tag all the photos the same, so I just went wild bald eagles 1 to 49 or whatever it is, and juvenile bald eagle 1 to 23 etc etc.

I’m talking about the page now and not the individual pics. When pages have the same title and description, I found google ends up ignoring some of them outright. Not good at all. It’s like they don’t exist.

Stoliv Montenegro Webpage Can Make Big Bucks Through Google Link Search

Stoliv, Montenegro

And always put a weblink back to your main or other page, as my youtube account shows (link from every single video)

hmm, I don’t usually put my website link in the description of my videos, I figure having it featured in my YouTube profile is enough. and one of my tags is ketadesign, which pushes my website higher the more it is propagated on the net (blog, youtube, myspace, flickr tags)

Now, I’d say this is very important. As I mentioned the interlinking above. Each youtube video has room for a description and keyword tags. Definitely use that for your advantage, and add the weblink. Helps fer sure.

Eventually I plan to do something similar with flikr etc.  i haven’t gone to my flickr account in so long I don’t even remember what I put on there.

I just notice that flikr is high up on google searches a lot of the time, so I want to set up an account and interlink stuff, like perhaps aCroatiapictures album pointing to myCroatiawebpage etc.

———————

okay, now not only do I have a very fun offline thing to do once the sun goes down – learning PHP – but during the day I’m setting up my new Reciprocal Link exchange directory at http://kenax.net/recip/ . Will incorporate that into my manual directory http://kenax.net/ . Decided to set up an automated one because I’m being approached by people for a link exchange and who offer a link out from pages that have a zero or nonexistent PR. Waste of my time to even answer their emails. Now they can do it themselves through my fantastic automated system.

If you ever want to know what a page’s PR is and keyword density, I use two good addons for my firefox if you’d like to know them.

Pages that Link to Translation Work Pay Well on Google

Discussions Concerning Search Engine Optimization

Dear Sir or Madam , I work on a website that offers translation services; for example, legal contracts, official documentation and website translations and after perusing your website I am keen to host an advertisement on your site http://www.kenax.cz/ . I would be interested in placing a one-page advertisement on your website. I will provide a unique text for this advert that will be created by our professional writer for your site, in accordance with your editorial guidelines. It would be fantastic to hear back from you about this. I look forward to your reply.

I’d like to point out that the two pages you have chosen are linked to from pretty well all of my 700 plus pages. These two are some of my most important pages and I’d like you to reconsider your discount.

This is my first time doing this and I’ve spent the last several days studying link exchanges. Did you say you wanted a link out from within my existing text or something (it is no problem for me to add more text, since I write fast and a lot), or is this a banner ad on the side? Do you pay one year in advance? Or can we break it down by month so I can try it out and see if it will negatively affect my rankings? Although I assume not because the two pages I would be linking to are translation related and have a fairly high PR.

pictures-of-Thailand_036_36

pictures-of-Thailand_036_36 (Photo credit: tree planting)

Would you consider more outlinks on other pages? All my pages are original content text, and I have recently started focusing on monetising them, where for a few years I was focusing more on the writing aspect and interlinking them. Do you have any suggestions how I can proceed? During my readings the last few days I learned that a lot of link exchange packages, especially those which use scripts and link out to spammers or something, can severely negatively affect my overall PR. Especially after some recent google upgrade. So I want to be careful. Obviously if some of these packages negatively affect my PR the outlinks I will have sold to you will become less attractive, for which reason your help would be appreciated.

Let’ have another link in this page: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/translating/translation-tips/translation-tips.html Place me links in the upper part of the website. About the price I want some discount in the price, as links are now going to be placed in the inner pages not in the homepage. I will pay you US $ 250 for 3 links, this is little bit compromise and I think you will accept this. For now let’s know me your thoughts.

Okay, how about these: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/ translating/translation-tips/translation- tips.html Number one on google for Translation Tips, PR2 You mentioned http://www.kenax.cz/ – Translation Agency, PR3, I could also suggest: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/ translations/translation-resources.html 19 on google for Translation Resources, PR2, http://001yourtranslationservice.com/ translations/translation-jobs.html PR2 http://001yourtranslationservice.com/ translating/languages/languages-of-the-world.html PR2 http://christ.kenax.cz/ PR2 – but I guess that isn’t educational related enough Other PR2 pages you might consider: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/kenax/Translators/Resources/TimeZones.htm http://kenax.net/submit-add-url-suggest-website.html >

Show me site that will have content specific and will Have minimum pr 2 . Yes the price was US $ 100 per year .

Subject: RE: Interested in placing one Full page advertisement I work as a third party for my clients. All are Education clients.

Hi Harry, so six outlinks in total was it? Three from kenax.cz and three from the Translation Tips? I’d rather not link out from the main 001 page because I am trying to get high in Translation related keywords with that particular page. Did you say a hundred dollars per year per link? I can also link out from http://kenax.net/companies-and-services/education/ a directory I’ve started which I am using for link exchanges. No charge but just a link exchange? I am also developing individual pages for each language, which seems education related.

I will want the links to be placed on this : http://001yourtranslationservice.com/ and if you will not be interested in linking me from this page you can link me from this inner page also http://001yourtranslationservice.com/translat ing/translation-tips/translation-tips.html . For now let me know how much is your expectation per link per year. Waiting for your reply on this .

pictures-of-Thailand_034_4_01

pictures-of-Thailand_034_4_01 (Photo credit: tree planting)

What would the ads promote? I am a bit pensive of adding it to my main entry page, as it may affect my keyword rankings, but it is possible. I also own the sister site at the bottom of this page (http://001yourtranslationservice.com/) and that has beneath it roughly 700 pages of original text. Are you only interested in the main entry pages? I spend almost full time on SEO and hope to give the various pages an html facelift. Eventually have others doing this work for me.

This will be a text link and not a Banner. The text link having 2 to 3 words maximum. And for this I will pay you per link/year US $ 100 and if you agree to this price then I will place 2 or more links . For now let me know your thoughts ..

————————————————-

I am starting to get regular requests Oh Karel I’m so glad. I would hate to see you lose all the work you’ve done over the decades in building the translating company. I wasn’t really sure where you were going with all the SEO and alternate websites and stuff. I always considered the translating your bread and butter, and was worried you may be letting go of it to focus on other things. So this is really great, and I hope it grows into a steady flow of income! It’s Friday, so I’ll drink a beer for you tonight.

Right on and thanks. Yah, the SEO stuff was precisely a way how to find my own customers, especially international ones, so that I don’t have to rely on those dork Czechs, who always tear apart my translations and nickpick over bullshit and small points. They simply do not like letting me translate loosely and try to get me to translate Czechglish and closer to their sacred original, which is professionally insulting to me and which I refuse to do. Dealing with them can be a pain, I’m sick of their smugness, and many times they just don’t pay. So this SEO stuff was aimed at freeing myself from them. Especially stupid Czech translation agencies, which are the worst of all. I’m done with their stupid mentality. But while doing and learning all this stuff, it occurred to me that I could make money from it too. It has definitely been an interesting learning experience, and I feel that once I click in high enough on google, orders will be coming in all directions at once: translations for me, translations for my other translators, DTP, SEO, webpage design, programming… you name it.

pictures-of-Thailand_037_1_04

pictures-of-Thailand_037_1_04 (Photo credit: tree planting)

I’ve been masterminding it this way for several years, but you can imagine there was a lot to learn and experiment with. I imagine that many people must have thought I’m just wasting my time, but they just don’t see what I see, or the vision and overall strategy in my head. When I try to explain something like this to Jana and mom, they just roll their eyes, see that I have tattered clothes, and cant see anything beyond that. “He’s not making money, so he must be simply wrong.” Naïve and simple way of looking at things, but then again, for two people who I must have spent 3 days teaching how to copy/paste, or in the case of Jana, repeat over and over and over and over again how to check her email, I can only forgive them their ignorance. It’s not their fault. So I just quietly work away, as any perservering entrepeneur does, and wait for the day when my vision becomes reality, and then all the little folks around say, “congratulations. How did you do it? Connections through your daddy or something?”

+0200 Subject: success! cau dudes, had to share this with someone. So it seems that my Czech to English translations translator CV page is now near the top of google, ranking for example something like 6th for “Czech to English translator“. I am starting to get regular requests so I will focus more on this page, because I stopped about a month ago. Hopefully it will get higher. Now that I am getting requests from people in the west I can slowly start considering to raise my prices. People in the west are generally much happier with my service, because they know what English is supposed to sound like and are not dorks like Czechs who may know some English and complain that I have translated “so loosely”; and most importantly, they’re not assholes and most of the time actually pay me. So my plan now is to focus on this page more to get it higher. Once and if I start to get a lot of work, I will keep focusing on this, and eventually take some of my earnings to pay people to do the same for the billion other language combinations my agency offers, now that I know how to do it. A long term and expensive project but well worth it. This is a strategy I developed while treeplanting. Simple and practical. I guess for the past two years I’ve been focusing on my main translation page, which is in a much more competitive bracket. Even though I have gotten fairly high on google for “translation service”, it is better for me to focus on less competitive keywords like “Czech to Polish” or “German to English translations“, and work from the bottom up. Once the individual pages get high up in their individual keywords, by each of them pointing to my main page everything will slowly climb upwards in all the important keywords. A lot of work but I see the other big companies are doing the same thing. The important point is that I get translations for me, so I can build on something from the bottom. I don’t like the work but I can make good money at it, and then pay some expats etc. in Prague orShanghai to work on the other pages, because it really is a lot of work. Anyway, just wanted to share this latest success. latero

oh my goodness, I just did a random check and was shocked to find my 001yourtranslationservice thing number one on google for the keyword “translation service”. Can you check how it looks on your end? Seems like my strategies are working. Anyway, started downloading a bunch of software and think it will only get better. Also some ebooks on the subject. If I make money one day will buy the software that I found useful. Anyway, really curious all that I will learn and accomplish over the next month.

mmmm, sorry man, on google.ca you’re on the middle of page 5 (which is still pretty good, I mean you’re competing against Google Translate and stuff), but for google.com you’re right at the top of page 3 which is pretty fantastic. [Turns out that I must not be logged into google to yield the same results for others, so use a different browser, like Opera for example, to research this alone. Never follow/click on any of the results, otherwise that browser too will start to remember what you like and distort the results accordingly.] I’m off to Cancun for just a few days very early tomorrow morning, back at midnight Wednesday. Won’t be checking email or doing anything remotely work-related while I’m gone.yeahyeahyeahyeahYEAH fun and sun for me!-Keta From:

A German Would Never Work for the Price of Czech Translators

2012

Email correspondence on the subject of translations among translators.

Could you handle Czech <- German pharma text translations for 300 CZK/NP?

Hi Petr I’d have to approach my translators, as I haven’t had translation from or into German for a long time. But over the years I get an increasing number of applicants. Looked in the database and found the following: German to Czech 23, last applicant end of 2008 Czechto German 5, possibly only one of them native German So certainly zadna velka slava. Doesn’t look very hopeful that I’d be confident about producing quality at this price, but one never knows. I also know places where I could advertise for more translators. If you have a lot of work I can go through the procedures of approaching everyone and testing them etc. cau dude, not exactly sure what you are asking but I’m always up for some cooperation.

beautiful-Czech-girls_HTX3

beautiful-Czech-girls_HTX3 (Photo credit: tree planting)

Concerning translations from Czech to English of pharmaceutical stuff, I can do this myself for 250 Kc/page but doubt I’d be able to find other translators for this price and still make it interesting for myself. Especially if you want quality. What language combinations were you interested in? If there is a lot of repetitions (of sentences and/or phrases), using my software I can bring the price down. For my travel truck I believe I could accommodate all of you, or help you get cheap accommodation. Best would be to talk about it a bit and work out the details. Karel

Hi Karl! What’s up? No, I apparently wrote the references in the Czech section and I seem to be there the only one… Vacation on Cyprus – sounds great, I have a family though – can you accommodate 2 people and 1 two-years-old? Karl, what are your nowadays activities? I would be glad if we could again get together and perhaps find some cooperation. FYI, I still want to focus on analytic chemistry; guess what, I will have a co-funding for a European project called Oligosynt (you may find info on www.eureba.be– just type in “Oligosynt”). This project is related to DNA-microarrays. The finances are relatively small but it is a start – wanna go into more European projects, so if you have an idea, I’d be glad you considering me as a partner. Karl, I am still occasionally doing translations for the chemical university in Prague. Its my minor activity but recently I had been asked to translate approx. 100-150 pgs. I think I would manage it if I could do it full time but I’m afraid of my capacity, since I will parallelly have work on the Oligosynt project + other.

beautiful-Czech-girls_62774

beautiful-Czech-girls_62774 (Photo credit: tree planting)

In the same time, I may get translation work from a pharmaceutical company and I wonder if you’d be willing to cooperate. I.e. you still have a database of translators throughout the world that could translate for a reasonable price, correct? In particular, translators specialized to pharma/medical/chemistry fields? In the same time, you mention some translating technology, which I did not fully understand (you have many links on the web that I really get confused) – you wanted to “license??” to prospective agents, correct? Frankly, translations have never been my major focus, but as the time evolves, I do it and I do want to keep on to some extent. Nevertheless, I do not want to get involved in the development of all the IT and organization (one has to really dedicate to it to be successful) and since I know you have been good in it why not joining forces? Now, I believe it is not a question of capability but will, capacity and price. Can you comment on whether you’d be interested and what capacity you’d have? As for price, I believe I could offer you 250 CZK per NM (I know you used to be more expensive but trust me obtaining work now from the pharma company requires to be competitive (meaning to have a lower price than the competition)). Can you respond whether this is interesting to you. And another question – what languages could we reliably manage? Karl, I am sincerely looking forward to your quick response (I should be submitting my offer to the pharma company asap – the best tdy – I have already procrastinated 1 week as I was doing other things) How are you? Back in Prague?

nope, still on Cyprus. Just setting up bogus local branches for google through my friends’ addresses around the world. If yer ever up for a cheap vacation, we could have beer at my place. Right now though may possibly make a move to Greece for the winter, working on a friend’s house. Did you write a review on the English or Czech google ad? I don’t think I saw a review from you on the English one. Since I seem to be the first bird on your google ad, you better check whether this is the sort you expected. If you’re based near Riegerovy sady, perhaps, we could sometimes have a beer there. What do you say?

I see, I like your goals. What are the tax rates on Beliz?

well, I once got this job which earned me about a hundred thousand bucks in a month, when the dollar was worth 36 Crowns or something. My accountant said I can go ahead and give about 60% of that to the Czech government, to which I responded, “Yah, right.”

I think the annual taxes in Beliz are about a hundred bucks, no matter how much you make. Rather amiable. The problem is you have to go through a middle person to set it up, and I went through another middle person before that middle person, so I was paying about a thousand a year. But I’ve had so little work the last two years I couldn’t pay anything, and eventually they told me the company no longer exists. But I keep using the number. It all seems like a joke. Especially since I travel around in a truck, use either my Canadian or Czech passport when it’s convenient (now even when crossing borders), have bank accounts in various countries… in short, I’m quite the criminal. k

OK, thanks, let us see. I will meet with my friend, who’s active with pharma companies and let you know. Your company KENAX/you are no longer registered in CZ, correct? Where is your tax registration nowadays?

I’m now registered in both Czech and Beliz. Czech taxes were killing me. But once I pay off what I owe them, I’d like to start bidding on EU translation tenders. Requires that all my taxes are paid up. I usually use my Beliz registration and my Czech one is sleeping peacefully at the moment. k

For a great translation service, web design, programming and the works, check out KENAX!

Discussion about Gypsies and Using their Name for the Title of a Book

2012
06.08

Promotional text for my book My Life – the Gypsy Traveler and related email correspondence below that.

Approach Letters

Hi, I came across your site and thought you might be interested in partnering with mine. My page is called The Gypsy Traveler and I write about my travels around the world. I work through the internet and can be anywhere, anytime. I run into Gypsies all the time and we totally relate to one another. For the past five years I’ve lived out of my truck (my home made caravan – http://001yourtranslationservice.com/travel-Europe/caravan-design/how-to-design-a-caravan.html), with solar panels on roof and internet through mobile phone or other means. I run a translation business in this way.

You can check out my travel blog here: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/travel-Europe/cheap-travel-europe-tour-guide.html.

I’ve start to compile all my writing into a story of my life:

My sister said the title (The Gypsy Traveler) is too provocative so I wrote up some pages explaining my point of view: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/me/the-gypsy-traveler/the-gypsy-traveler.html.

So I’ve got a few interesting pages I could link back to you, not to mention all my other higher PR (Page Rank) pages on my other domains:

Hope we can come to some happy agreement!

The Traveling Gypsy

I was born in Czechoslovakiain 1965, when the country was under the domain of Communist Russia. But the local government was liberal minded. The country’s president wanted “socialism with a human face”, and Czechs in general are a creative liberal bunch. After all, that is where Bohemia is located. Unfortunately, the conservative Soviet powers didn’t take kindly to this flowering liberalism, and because Czech is generally a very industrial country and was on the verge of developing nuclear power, in 1968 they sent in the troops to prevent a revert to democracy. Not to mention that Czech, bordered to the northwest by Germany and Austria to the south, has a strategic central location in Europe, which the Soviets did not want to lose (and neither Czech’s industry, which generally produced a lot of weapons for the Russians).

Invasion of Prague in 1968.

My parents thought it was time to get the HELL OUT OF THERE. Threw their bags and us children into their 2-cylinder Lada and headed for the border. But the villagers, in the hopes of stopping the incoming tanks, littered the roads with nails. My dad had to patch up the tires six times by the time we made it to the border crossing, by which time it was well past the midnight deadline that the invading forces gave the rebel-hearted to leave.

Sneaked through crossing in our secret way and eventually made it to Canada’s capital, Ottawa.

Grew up in French-English surroundings and have fond Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn memories at the cottage in the country during the weekends and summers, or at summer camps inOntario andQuebec.

Mother remarried to a short-tempered black belt master with really old school thinking. It was clash of the titans and the family pressure cooker started hissing.

Eventually moved out west to Vancouver, and by the time I was in grade 10 the environment was beyond intolerable. For everyone. Suggested they send me to boarding school and they welcomed the notion with relief.

A little more intense than this.

There they would cane you with a sawed off hockey stick if you swore, the discipline of which helped increase my grades from an average of 51% to almost 90 – enough to get accepted in the country’s most prestigious universities.

I chose Queen’s because it seemed like more fun, and fun it certainly was, boasting the second highest per-capital consumption of alcohol on the continent.

But I didn’t know what I wanted to learn, subsequently wasn’t motivated, and ended up taking three years off, during which time I worked at different jobs at different locations in the country. Learned the basics of many trades, and finally decided I wanted to start a business, so I switched faculties and completed my education.

Discovered the high earnings of tree planting ($250 dollars a day if you are a “high baller” like me) and did that during the summers. A crazy group of people and a nice change in environment from the different crazies in university.

Treeplanting attire

The tree planters urged me to take at least a year off after university before starting my career, so I headed to Europe and instantly fell in love with it. Came back toCanadafor a grueling 8 month session of tree planting to save up cash and try out my Midas Touch and entrepreneurial skills in the recently democratizedCzech Republic.

I call it the magic years. It’s like those glass ornaments with a snowy scene inside. You quickly flip it over and the scene is filled with fluffy, falling snowflakes. This is what it felt like when Czech society turned over from communism to capitalism. There was hope and sparkle in everyone’s eyes. The beer was ridiculously cheap, girls fresh for westerners, and the environment attracted the adventurous and interesting from the west.

Over time though, the girls wizened up to the irresponsible antics of foreigners, the adventurous got bored and followed the wave eastward, and the stagnant stale air of suburbia encroached in on my little paradise of sparkle. It was time to leave.

The internet had come, I found work through that, and decided I could take my lifestyle on the road. I’ve been moving from one place to another my entire life and have developed itchy feet. I masterminded to move my business into a caravan, with solar panels on roof and internet through mobile phone or other means, so I could drift freely around the planet.

Finally received a major project large enough to fund this dream, but first to visit my mother in Vancouverfor Christmas, since it’s already been eleven years when I left. With the intention to also pilot test my dream. I purchased a van in Seattle, internet through Iridium satellite phone, and drove down to Mexico, flying back to Prague from LA some three months later. This heightened my itch and it took three years and another major project to make it possible.

Beautiful truck I lived in for 5 years.

Now I’ve been five years on the road (in Europe) and absolutely love it. One person commented that they really admire my lifestyle, saying: “It’s great. You can arrive at a place, decide you like it, and plan to stay there for a few months or so.” I had to correct him: “It’s not like that. There is no agenda. I never decide how long I want to stay somewhere. When I get bored I simply crank up the engine and roll away.” Made it all the way to Cyprus, wandered through the Balkans, and always stay places long enough to make good friends and get a real feel for the local culture.

But the winters of Europe are not what I want and I’ve decided to scale down by buying a smaller laptop which I can easily fit into my backpack. I decided to cut the umbilical cord, leave my treasure truck behind in Europe and head to Asia for at least a year. South to Thailandduring the winters and perhaps North Vietnamin the hot summers. Then perhaps to Kenya to launch my Africa Charity Project, which is to teach Africans how to wire a village with solar panel and find work through the internet. Perhaps buy a truck for South America and fly to Europe for the summers. The world is my oyster and I want to swallow all of it.

If you’d like to join me on my journeys, I’d love the company:

Asking Gypsy Sleepy of her Opinion with Title

Hey sleepy, if you like you can read my new webpage:

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/me/my-life.html

Unfortunately a lot of reading, if you have the time, but you might find it interesting. I’m experimenting with the possibility of selling my travel and life stories as a sort of online book. I’ve already written about half, which is online, because I’ve learned that writing original content and putting it on the web helps get my pages to the top of google. So I put text online to help me get new customers. But the travel stories are time consuming, with all the pictures that I have to add etc., and I’ve stopped making them, although for the past two years I continued to write about my travel experiences. But they are on my computer (not online) and I’ll only be willing to make webpages from them if people are interested enough to pay me something for it.

Picture of Gypsy.

I’ve always considered myself a sort of Gypsy, because I’ve been moving from place to place my entire life and for other reasons, and it occurred to me that I could use as the title of my book “The Traveling Gypsy”. I asked some friends about the idea and my sister said that many people in the west will get angry at me because of this. If you go to the webpage above, at the very top you will see a link to my Gypsy explanation pages, and at the bottom of those, a continuation to the email discussion I had with my sister. In short, she says that people in the west are so analy politically correct and they will think that my insinuation that I am a Gypsy is insulting to that race, in light of all the suffering they had to endure over the centuries. Personally I thought that was nonsense and explained my point of view on the pages I mentioned above. In any case, I do not want to insult the Gypsy people so I thought I’d ask you for your opinion.

How are things going with you? karlos

Got into a discussion with my sister about the above title I thought I’d use for my book about my traveling experiences. Do you think Gypsies would be insulted by that? I never thought it would, but she says that people in the west would get extremely angry by it and scold me. As if it is somehow derogatory against the suffering they had to endure in the past. I do not understand the correlation, but certainly wouldn’t want to insult Gypsies. I find I always tend to get along with them great, and sort of feel like they are my brothers and sisters.

Thank you for your query. Our website functions entirely in the service of the Society whose primary mission is to promote the academic study of Gypsies and Travelers. For myself, I fail to see the connection between our and your objectives. Gypsy and Traveler life is centered more on ethnicity and the distinct social organization each group has evolved, than it is on the traveling lifestyle, although most of the groups do have itinerant existence in their history. I am not sure what you would have to offer to the scholarly study of such groups, but I’m willing to bring your request up at our next Board of Directors meeting in Austria. If you can provide more detail on just how your proposed collaboration could further the Society’s goals please feel free to do so. I think I can understand how linking the two enterprises might help you, but not the other way around.

Gypsy tales by Christina Santini

Hi Matt, that’s a good question, but I’ll give it a shot. Here are two reasons I could think of:

1) I’m good at search engine optimization, as you can see from here:

Search Engine Optimization

I haven’t updated it in a while so it should be improved since then. Considering the work I am putting into this I expect that within about a month my page could be at the top of google for The Gypsy Traveler. Linking to your pages then should help with your rankings, although I can understand you don’t really need it. I also want to try and promote my book and will try to draw a lot of traffic to that page, so this traffic could spill over to your pages. But I don’t know if that will be so interesting for you (surfers who have searched for “gypsy traveler”).

2) I run into a lot of Gypsies during me travels. Perhaps I could interview them or something? Or perform some research?

Otherwise, I really don’t know what I could offer. Thought I’d take a crack at it anyway.

Email correspondence concerning Web Design.

for example, a programmer charged me $500 to create this entire site in WP, including creating the html: http://codarestaurant.cz/

That looks pretty basic and I figure I could do something like that. You can check out

http://ceska-slovenska-hospoda-na-kypru.com/

Cyprus web design

During my travels in Cyprus

I did that for a restaurant in Cyprus and, as intended, its at the top of google for such keywords as “Slovakian restaurant inCyprus” or “Czech pub inCyprus” etc., including their Czech language versions. I made the flash presentation thing using pictures my friend Craig took. He’s got a better camera than I do but I took some of the pictures. Then we made the goofball video. I considered this the half way point but stopped short there once I realised they weren’t going to pay me anything. Most of the rest of the work was polishing things up and seo work. Now it’s just going to be a bad advertisement for them, forever.

I checked out your site and I still do not see any need for CMS. All this can be achieved with simple html, css and flash. I’ll study cms now to learn exactly what it is.

——————————–

okay, checked out your Czech page and found what I already suggested at the top of it:

<html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”
dir=”ltr” lang=”cz”>
<head profile=”http://gmpg.org/xfn/11″>
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type”
content=”text/html; charset=UTF-8″ />

Beautiful Czech girls

Beautiful Czech girls

With this the Czech should regularly show, as it does on that page. What problems are you having? Uploading new articles in Czech? With the above on every page the English should show up fine too, so you should be able to use this script for all your pages. Unless of course you want to publish in Arab or Chinese or something.

Checked out CMS and CMS WordPress and found the following excerpts:

“The software provides authoring (and other) tools designed to allow users with little knowledge of programming languages or markup languages to create and manage content with relative ease.

Most systems use a database to store content, metadata, or artifacts that might be needed by the system. Content is frequently, but not universally, stored as XML, to facilitate reuse and enable flexible presentation options.[1][2]

A CMS improves the lifecycle of your website for years to come. The “look and feel” of your site can be changed or relaunched, leaving existing content and page architecture untouched. No need to worry about copying and pasting content into another site, simply publish your new design and the CMS will pull the content into the new look.”

So it confirms my hunch, except now I see it is good for very large websites, or for people who don’t know so much about programming. A programmer could hack into the plugins or WordPress and customise it, then leave it for the normal user who then only has to upload articles and pictures. So I feel I could easily do this for you.

One thought occurred to me is that I could resolve your two problems for free – as a friend and to get my foot in the door – and then we move on from there? p

——————————–

how’s your project going with the programmers I sent you? Good progress?

I read in your letter to them that you were looking for silverlight programmers. What’s that like? Since I’m getting increasingly into Flash and making fancy webpages, do you think it would be worthwhile for me to learn this as well? Does the browser user have to download some silverlight plugin like for Flash? I’ve seen it in action once, but it was some super duper American football website. Not sure I need to go that bonkers for my piddly needs. For now Flash, CSS, php and databases seem to accomplish quite a bit.

——————————–

More work, the more I can eventually start increasing my price, cause I’ll have something else to fall back on. The thing about this CMS is that companies like it because their website looks nice, but  they don’t have to be techheads to add pages and stuff. Here’s the guy’s site:

http://web2go.cz/

web design 2

Another picture from Cyprus.

I think it will be increasingly popular. He just wants me to hack into the background php and do something the widgets and shit cant. So its interesting learning and I imagine more and more people will be using it, cause they can hire me to fiddle and do the rest themselves.

Just got another job twiddling with someone’s WordPress. CMS I believe its called. I’m just branching out like an octopus!

yeah I’ve heard about this. a bunch of people I know transferred their blogs onto WordPress when it first came out, it took them a while to learn but then they loved it.

another good tool for you . ..  . once you figure this out I think it will help you with your .html “blog” pages on your own website.

isn’t if funny, every new thing we learn opens a door to . . . . just more work!! ow ow ow.

——————————–

Boy, what a loose password. I’d suggest you change that.

Okay, studying it now, but here some comments. When I’m lets say on the Czech contact page, we got:

http://clubdelvino.cz/demo/?page_id=11&lang=en-cz

but when I click on the EN link it jumps to the English homepage:

http://clubdelvino.cz/demo/?lang=en

and same in the opposite direction, which I would say is a shortfall of the Widget, which should, ideally, instead go to the same page ID 11 (the contact form) but go to the English version instead. Should I look more into the other language widget I sent you to see if it does a better job? Or is this issue not so important? I’ll look into the Flash thing now but I have to admit that this is turning out to consume much more of my time than I expected. On the other hand, I can see the benefits of this CMS thing and that it could become popular among clients, since they would have a fancy website and not require rocket science to change stuff themselves. Just setting it up would require the hitech end. So generally I’m glad to be learning this but I’d like to get an idea what you would be offering for this type of work in the future. Obviously once I figure things out it would go much faster with future projects.

Off to study the Flash header now. p

Guy making chair in Cyprus.

Just curious, a few times you were making remarks about my obnoxious colour pages, but do you know what web safe colours are? I just read up a bit about it and Mac and PC process colours differently. I have Corel and I can really fine tune colours too, like with your  Photoshop, but fine tuning out of the safe range might lead to problems. How do you usually go about it?

my comment was more about too many super bright colours on one page. you should choose background colours usually (navy blue, grey, black, white) then have really only one bright colour, if that. you had like purple and yellow or orange and something too much too much!

Re: web safe colours, I looked into it once and it didn’t really tell my anything special. someone accused me once of not using web safe colours on that biologist’s site I worked on, she said it was all hot pink and dithering. we took a survey and no one else saw that, she was actually gunning for my job, so I disregarded her.

what I do in PhotoShop is choose the Pantone colour I like, then go to the Web pallette so I get the actual .html code. If I bother to click the colour picker (colour wheel, just has the range of colours in a big circle) if the colour is not web friendly there appears a yellow yield sign with an exclamation point in it, like a warning. then I move the selection closer to the centre (white) to get out of the danger zone.

Re: PC vs. Mac, its not so much about that although it does matter, as it is about the different monitors. Some people are on crusty old monitors that can’t display millions and millions of colours, some people have not set their display correctly,  . . . theres a lot of morons out there so best to design something well within safe parameters. I know people who spent a lot of time putting purple text on black, or some such thing, then people ask why there is nothing on the page!

web design4

Guys hanging out in Cyprus.

yah, I did a lengthyish research and it seems that about 10% of the people out there still have shitty monitors, so its safe for them. And different browsers and operating systems also process things differently, although once it gets in the millions of colours I guess its less of a problem. In any case I’m just going to do what I want cause I don’t like the limited selection of the websafe colours. The 10% can blow me. It’s only for my Payment Reputation thing that I’m finally upgrading. Making the dbase robust and will use it as another example of what I can do. So its a free service and people shouldn’t complain. I select my colours with MS Expressions, through which you can connect to Window’s custom colour palette menu, and once you go back into Expressions it chooses the closest web based colour code thing. Since Expressions is Windows and most people have that and use IE, I should cover the most people. Plus I look at it in all my browsers (Opera, Chrome, Firefox and IE), so then I should really cover about 93% of people, except I just checked my my monitor, even though fairly old, is set at 32 bit. I think Safari MAc would be about 7%. I’ll ask you to look at my pages once in a while. But for you designing in Mac it might be something for you to consider. Or at least test the pages on your PC.

The worst thing is tables and why I’m thinking of going div, as all the big dudes suggest. Not looking forward to learning something new like this but probably necessary. Or even worse create exceptions in CSS for different browsers, as they say. What looks so pretty in my Chrome gets quite resized in every browser I try and I must say its rather annoying. For now I’m just adjusting to compromise. Or heck, even worse is when you do the ctrl+/- thing and resize fonts, or some browsers you can change the default font setting. Oh well, I’ll just get it up and running and I can go back and beautify tweak once in a while. The functionality is cool and looking forward to designing a special page for mobile phones. Think it can be useful for translators who get job offers while out of the office and want to check up a company’s reputation before committing to anything. I’ve also added a Category section so other professions can use the same shit. The more traffic the better. k

Beercicle Machine – The perfect way to serve bottled beer.

2012
06.05

Even better than draught beer on tap, although a glass inside an ice sleeve would serve draught beer nicely. I got the idea when I was in a café in hot and muggyThailand. I helped myself to bottled beer from their ice-cold fridge and ripped off an icicle from the fridge wall in the process, the icicle stuck to the side of my bottle.

frozen ice cold beer from beercicle machine

frozen ice cold beer from beercicle machine

The beer chilled my teeth coming out and tasted deliciously cold. I imagined the big icicle would keep my beer nicely chilled for a while, when it occurred to me a fridge could be designed to create these popsicle sleeves which could have an insulating layer on the outside (perhaps foam) and shaped inside to snuggly fit a beer bottle (or glass for draught beer). I imagine it would not be a very complicated process, where the fridge could be fine tuned to be close to freezing, and perhaps some experimented and measured time how long the bottle must stay outside, to warm up slightly before opening. The trick is to open it at just above zero, when the beer itself will not turn to ice but the bottle/glass and surrounding ice is at zero. It will keep the beer to near zero without freezing it. It has to get significantly cold for the beer to freeze while the bottle is still closed. So just avoid that and all should be okay. If you open the beer too soon the release of pressure will allow ice to form, destroying the beer that gets frozen.
