Proofread Glossary Project Proofreading

Could you please send Catherine files 1a and 1b which you had already proofread for her reference? I’m sure it will help her understand how to abbreviate in a consistency with your files.

I can´t open Sebastian´s comment file
http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading/German/04_reps_DEU_Transl_Sebastian_Comments.doc

MS Word says it´s somehow corrupted and even other programs can´t open it. If you can open it, could you convert it into a plain text file (txt or rtf)if you have the time?

no worries, I had done it anyway, but wanted to make sure.

I will upload section 14 so that you can start working on it. I will upload 1a too (I still need to work on some parts of 1b) for but please do not consider it final. I will probably give it another look.
And I will take care of 17u and v too.

file 03 consisted of 6 language pairs:

1: 3,5 h
2: 2,5 h
3: 1,5 h
4-6: 1,0 h

I uploaded section 14 and I also ask Catherine to send me a list of changes once she is done so that I can check everything.

Hi

ok, will re-upload 03_203-5 after 03_210-13 is finished (because the project was overwritten, so I have to go back to the backup — would it be possible in the future to make every part to translate/proofread a new project? This would make it easier to work on them in parallel while waiting for answers, etc.)

In the meantime, here is a short list of questions from proofreading 03_210-13. Maybe we can do the same with these files, and I will wait after I hear back from you and  before I finish and upload these?

After this, I will be available for more.

” Oh, and just to make sure: I hope it is still valid that I proofread only the edited by translator (and, of course, the untranslated) segments? ”

Thank you for sending me J-M’s comment about my work. It is always very helpful to get some feetback.
I made all the changes on the files I had already proofread, which took me one hour. I uploaded all of them (7efhi updated) plus file 8a, which again took me more than two hours. As I said in my comment, there are a lot of grammar/conjugation mistakes in that file and it was longer than 7h and 7i.
I am still desperately trying to speed up the process. Could you please take into account the hour it took me to update my files?

I should be done with files 8b and 8c by tomorrow afternoon.

Carine

I just realised I uploaded the version of file 8a with all macros on it. I am uploading ‘updated’8a, which is clean.

Sorry about that

Hmm, I had no trouble opening it. Most likely your download got interrupted. However, I did as you requested and converted it into text format.

I’m forwarding your question to .

You can also restrict yourself to just the stuff edited by the translator.

As to your request that each proofread be a separate project, sorry, can’t do that. Transit built-in limitation.

What you can do though is to change the working directory and project name when you receive a project. But this is done by the receiver, not by the sender.

Questions from Sebastian regarding the glossary.

Personally, I think we should start limiting the changes. Mainly because I’m handing off some files to be vetted already and I don’t want to have to go back and check for changed terms and correct them.

(I will if you say I have to though.)

Also, are you available for translation work tomorrow?

This is file 1a proofread by Jean

. I guess it could serve as reference for methods of abbreviation.

yes, I get the message. So the problem is fixed.

I have to correct my estimation again. It is more than I thought: need 2-3 hours a part

I asked Catherine to track changes as she works, I guess it’s faster to check in this way. Is it fine?

And one more thing.
It seems that we still don’t have consistency and agreement about capitalization. As far as I know, there was an attempt to capitalize first letter of first word of each term or item name. This is also the instruction I was requested to give to all new proofreaders.
But client checked the glossary and found it inconsistent with this approach:
Lusen’s Enlightenment Book Livre de la Raison de Lusen
or
Magic Pendant Recipe Recette Pendentif magique
versus
Magic Ornament Recipe Recette ornement magique

I guess that the fact that if the first word was abbreviated, then the next word was capitalized as well, added to impression of inconsistency.

At this point, they are suggesting to capitalize everything (all words in the term or item name) to make it easier to reach consistency.

I took a look at the files you uploaded, and see you had been capitalizing every word.

I strongly believe that we must get final decision on this issue and follow it (and adapt the glossary to it).
Please discuss this with Alexandre, and try together to reach some final approach and let me know.

Carine

Yes, i can take that into account, but please continue minding your time.

Please, when you complete the files tomorrow, can you send me a message with list of files and their proofreading hours? It will surely make more order them mentioning file here, hour there. I will then update the accounting sheet.

———————-

I just emailed Alexandre.
I think we should go with capitalizing everything because it follows the English and it would be less hassle – translators would not have to think about what to capitalize, they would just capitalize every meaningful term as in “Livre de la Raison de Lusen”.
It makes more sense to me and it sounds easier to enforce. I will see what Alexandre has to say and I will get back to you.
Let me know if you have comments.

JM

I think you should contact Alexandre, because he is telling me item names should not be capitalized, but from the emails Karel frowarded, the client really seems to want them capitalized.

All these conflicting instructions are not helping at this stage.
I feel completely lost with this issue. I thought we would have to capitalize item names… I don’t know what to do.
I still think that if we have to capitalize, all terms should be capitalized, beacuse there is no room for interpretation this way.
Please let me know.

We need you back on JD for today and tomorrow. We agreed on that with .

We began vetting files, and some problems emerge.
I am attaching one of your files I went over. Some terms do not correspond to glossary. I suppose it’s not all, as I was checking only the ones which caught my eye. I marked red in column C and pasted the glossary suggestion.
Please abbreviate and use the glossary suggestion, and take a look if there may be some other terms to be double checked against the glossary.
We need to deliver tomorrow evening, and this is just the first file, therefore please take care of it as first priority.

Please confirm.

You can upload the updated file here, but take in mind that this system doesn’t accept xls files – you need to compress it first.

———————-

You sent me a message on 06/06 asking me to capitalize names if I needed to modify them, which I did. I informed other proofers about this.
Now Alexandre is telling me about the no capitals at all on item names.
What are we going to do now? If we do not agree on what to do quickly, we are in for a bad surprise.
What is the client’s position? We have a maximum of 10 days left… What exactly should we do?

JM

———————-

There are few issues in some of the files – I am vetting them now.
I am attaching 2 files:
One is file 2b, which has more issues them other files. Many book titles in this file are left untranslated, though I remember that at least some of them were translated in the previous versions of this file. I marked what I saw red. Additionally, the term “celestial” had been translated differently then in other files. Please make the necessary changes and upload the updated version of the file here (compress the file before uploading as this system does not accept xls files).
Second is comments file. Except for 2b, which requires more changes, in other files most issues were with abbreviation, or with translation which doesn’t seem to correspond to source. Please make the changes in the comment file, and upload it here. I will introduce the changes to the original files myself.

Please take in mind that we deliver tomorrow evening, therefore please take care of these issues as first priority, but also please begin returning me the proofread files you’ve been working on yesterday.

Please confirm.

And finally – will you be available tomorrow? There may be more questions or issues to resolve, and I need to know when can you be addressed.
