Glossary Work Translated Project Translate

, as much as I understand your wanting to “finish” the glossary, I think that will not be possible all too soon. Our last glossary had around 20000 entries at the end and we were much stricter with allowing phrases/double entries/incorrectly spelled English entries and so forth. Also, the dictionary work (proofreading) is extremely exhausting, so there is simply no way to guarantee it is free of errors and mistakes, which can very well be corrected by comment docs like from Moreover, since we have started with proper names translations, despite the advantage of having translated lots of very crucial content early in the project, there is also a great disadvantage, at least the way I see it: Many terms have had to be translated without much context (as was quickly obvious as I went through the glossary) and is bound to be not as atmospheric, stylistically fitting, and, plain correct (regarding accuracy). These shortcomings can in my opinion only be corrected with translators moving on and thus building a sort of memory and stylistic and factual memory for translating (including me). So although it led to a lot of problems, the fact that I and others had already translated a great deal before seriously starting putting together the glossary on the last project, this also had the benefit of us all knowing what to change, what to leave alone and how the game mechanics, terminology, etc. worked. So, unfortunately, I see no great chances for “finalizing” the dictionary/glossary in the early phases, because lots of terms will be added and they may very well affect terms already translated. If you or any of the translators disagree and see a solution to quickly “finalize” the glossary, that would be great, but I don’t have an idea, ly.
I will be able to translate tomorrow, but not before evening and unfortunately, probably not very much for the remainder of the week. You know that all this administrative work takes time and for the last project, I had already translated a great deal before “officially” starting as lead translator.

So now I’m working to quickly integrate those comments (and the ones I get from Sophie) and the ones I originally deleted and can send you a new version soon too.
Also, I would like to put together an update for the guidelines and discuss them at least with but, alas, time is a problem for me at the moment. Do you think such guidelines are even helpful?

I am so sorry for the confusion! Yes, we did instruct proofreaders to capitalize first word of an item name if they change it. I am going to leave the decision on Karel/client. I am finishing soon, but I will ask Karel to update both of you of the final choice and it will be over my dead body to change it again.

———————-

I totally agree. Leave it to the clients, let’s make them happy, I want them to entrust us with further projects.

” OK! “First, you must download the glossary. This is going to be your guidebook.

Word count total is 5493 words, according to Transit, but it’s spread out over lots of files. It just so happen that there were a lot of repetitions for Section 2 as a whole.

I´ve finished proofreading 04_reps_DEU_tobe_proofed.PXF and uploaded it.
I have a comment file on the Glossary_DEU_07Jun. Should I upload it here or via the CS to ?

Hi, Ulrich. Alright, we’re back and we need to catch up. First, download the glossary. This is going to be your guidebook.

glossary entry: hat of the valiant = Rafinesse-Hut

in all other instances valiant is Tapferkeit so it should rather be “Tapferkeits-Hut”

Used this translation in the file.

Hi, Rudiger. Alright, we’re back and we need to catch up. I’ll spare you the horror stories about the client causing all sort of delays and just get straight to work.

You may notice some files are missing. That’s correct. Those files are all repetitive item names and similar stuff and the repetitions file translated them 100%. It just turns out that section 2 has lots of repetitive stuffs.

Word count total is 4656 words, according to Transit, but it’s spread out over lots of files. See above about repetitive stuffs.

Re: comment file.

Is it about a glossary issue or comments about the quality of the translation work itself?

If it’s the first, upload it to the PR site together with the actual file.

If it’s the latter, give it to the usual way. I’m not sure what the usual way though. How did you guys do it back in JD? Via CS? But give it to .

” Ooops, one more thing. What’s your proofreading hours so far?

What does Bm. stand for?

PS: Please don’t wait until you’re finished with everything before uploading. Instead, once you are finished for the day, upload the files you’ve finished so far.

That way the proofreaders can start work on the files you have done so far instead of waiting for everything at once.

I´ve only proofed this file so far and it took me 120 minutes.

The comment file was for the latest glossary and I uploaded it via CS and told about it.

Please find attached the reproofed file.

I have uploaded a file called: French_JD_100201_Localize_1c_for JM.xls

those are queries for
, so not the final file, please ignore this file then, until I confirm I am uploading the final file.

It’s taking me a long time to check,as it is more time-consuming to check lists of terms, rather than sentences. I am worried about your deadline, I hope the rest is going faster with your other proodfreaders.

talk to you tomorrow morning!

Catherine” , I have another (substantial) update for the glossary. I’ve pondered some and I think unless there are absolutely unacceptable issues remaining, we should indeed adopt a more limiting policy regarding suggestions to the glossary. People could still submit what they have but updates would be only if very necessary. That way, we can TRY to keep changes low and just add new entries periodically from translators’ Add_New_glossaries. As I’ve stated before, I’d at least get SOME translation work in this project, so my glossary work can also benefit and we get ahead. ”

please find attached the corrected comments file.

I checked Catherine’s file (1c) and she is doing fine.
