Translated Translation Files by Translator had Mistakes

Proofreader has a question about gender of a NPC:

In 14b, the gender of Lil Baba is changing in the source text.

For instance:

Lil Baba has been in charge of the Vim since their former leader died. -We will have a better chance of winning if he supports us. -Would you please persuade him?

After the death of Master Vim, Lil Baba is in charge of Vim. -She once said she would lead disciples of Vim to help Jadeon if we could kill the Shaodu Lookout

Shall I leave it as it is, or do you know the gender of Lil Baba?

Thank you.

Thank you for the advice.

What I always suggest to all translators to do is NOT to Alt+Ins the segment as you translate it, but to use Ctrl+plus to pass to the next untranslated one. In this way, your segments remain “not translated” in Transit. Having finished translation, you just return to beginning and carefully proofread the first “untranslated” segment, which you actually already translated. And only then press Alt+ins. This solves lot of issues, especially allowing you to proofread only the words you are paid for.

If you were not proofreading the files, it is very much possible that this is the source of the negative comments, because we always make mistakes when translating, it is just not possible to avoid them. In such case i believe proofreading should solve most of the issues.

GS is the Accounting sheet. There you can see how many words in the files were pretranslations and how many were untranslated words. This way you can calculate which percent of the total word count did you translate.

I noticed that many segments marked as translated by Transit after having pressed ALT+ENTER are in fact sometimes full of errors (capitals at the wrong place, missing hyphens, locations and/or items left untranslated) and sometimes some segments are not translated at all, while they’re marked as translated. I’m wondering if the bad comments I received from the proofreader aren’t due to this problem. Have you ever heard about it? Maybe I have to re-check the whole files, but one told me not to do that, as I’m not paid for these segments.

I really want to find a way to resolve it cause I don’t want to receive bad comments from proofreaders anymore for something I didn’t do.

Also, told me I could find a link to the GS googlesheet on the instructions.html page on the fileserver, but the only link redirects to the Accounting_web googlesheet, so I don’t understand what that GS googlesheet is… He told me I could find in it the percentage of my work, but I don’t know what he means.

Thank you, I will forward it to the relevant translators. One possibility to forward me files is to upload them to the FTP file on the translator server, or to upload them here (just let me know that they are for me).

It helps if you write translator’s name on the comment if you know it.

Thank you.

I’ve just had a look, but “Regenesis array” isn’t in the glossaries.

Could we ask the translation leader? He might know how this should be translated.

—————————-

I answered to M-A.

Lead translators for the project are for German and for French.

I see that translator named keeps uploading here files. Are they for you or she just doesn’t know how to deliver them?

I understand that sent already some proofread files. Please prepaire some for me as soon as you can.

Who are the lead translators for this Project?

has a question.

—————————-

If there had been already several files where one translation was used, it makes sense to stick to it. But I will ask.

Sorry, here is one more:

In the last files I proofread, “Regenesis array” was translated by “Bouclier de regenese”, and I left it as it was, since “array” has been translated by “bouclier” in the dictionary. However, in 14b, the expression has been translated by “coffret de regenese”.

Was not in the Excel Glossaries.

Do you want these questions to be addressed to you or do you prefer them to take an independent decision on this kinds of issues?

Thank you.

—————————-

If you have a look at the glossary updates I uploaded you will see that “array” should be translated as “aura”. I wrote a post on the forum a couple of weeks ago. This term is very important, it concerns a whole group of spell. It has been mistranslated for quite some time, please make sure all translators and proofreaders know about the accurate translation (aura).

Lil Baba is a female character. Please refer the translator/proofreader to the Npc location list (excel file with all the npc information, including genre).

Please let me know if you need anything else

As agreed, this is just to let you know that I have just uploaded the files 17e-o and a bunch of files 13 (including 13i)fully spellchecked this time.

With many thanks

Did you spellcheck files 17e-o (11 files) in Transit?

Please let me know ASAP. If you had not spellcheked them, please spellcheck and Send them again to .

Thank you.

Thank you. Did you mark somehow in the file name that they had been spellchecked? If not, please list me the file names here that I will not send them again to someone.

Other question – where is the list of NPC? I just can’t find it anywhere.

Thank you.

—————————-

How is the condition with the files I sent you for spellchecking? Please let me know ASAP.

—————————-

Yes, I wrote “spellcheck” in the file name.

The NPC location file can be found in the main project page and in the French guidelines.

Here is a direct link for you:

Are you available for spellchecking this weekend?

Please let me know. I would also like to know your hourly rate.

—————————-

Thanks for asking.

I will change this in the files I have already sent.

M-A

—————————-

Ok, will do.

I have uploaded files 17e-o and 13h,i… again, but this time they’re all fully spell-checked so you can use them.

Please let me know if you need anything

Allright, send them to me. It would make my job a lot easier if you could send files with very low % of pretranslations (otherwise it’s pretty difficult to know what the translator actually translated).

Some of them you’re already proofreading.

Dario_1 did 18c.

did 18n.

We could use a second opinion of Dario7. Please go to

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading//

and download the file marked with Dario7’s name and take a look at it.

There’s another guy, but he hasn’t turned in his files yet, so eh, forget about him for the moment. 🙂

I read the email I just sent you and I just to avoid any misunderstanding: I only spellchecked the files that were in ‘s list:

So, to be clear, I spellchecked 17e to 17o except 17f

I also checked file 13i but not the other files13 that were not in the list.

Please let me know if you need more details

Here are comments form a different proofreader:

10a and 10b:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Spaces missing in front of ? and !

The translator forgot to delete some English sentences (seg.63) + random words. Could be avoided with better proofreading.

Few typos + spelling mistakes (comme, prophetes)

fleurissanteeÂť replaced with florissanteeÂť

Inconsistency in the translation of some names of places (Wildlands)

Few untranslated English words (the Billows, Doom Bog)

Few negations missing (Je ne suis PAS sur)

Few grammar mistakes (accords et terminaisons part. passe)

Missing hyphens and unneeded hyphens

Missing accents (s¢‚¬„¢il vous plaa®t, entraa®nement)

A couple of full stops missing

Hope it helps.

Here is a comment form proofreader on your file:

10c:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Accents missing (ga¢teau)

Inconsistency with names of places (Cave instead of Grotte)

Noun gender mistake (jade is masculine, flasque is feminine)

Missing letters at end of words

Few untranslated English words (The)

Grammar mistakes (accord sujet-verbe, confusion infinitif/vb conjugue)

A lot of typos (needs better proofreading)

Spelling mistakes (esperer, Mountagne, pa®quer)

Few sentence structures are a bit clumsy, because the translator sticks too much to the way English sentences are built.

Confusion in the understanding of some English expressions (at the same time ¢° en permanence, if you need help ¢° si vous pouvez m¢‚¬„¢aider [sens oppose], donate = faire don de)

One segment is untranslated but marked as translated.

Plural translated by singular (the Nanbu Wizards ¢° le sorcier Nanbu)

Here are comments from proofreader on your files:

10d and 10e:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Informal addressing (tu)

The translator forgot to delete some English sentences.

Mistranslation of part of a segment (hurleciel instead of hurlelune)

A lot of spelling mistakes (quelques temps, briot, dixaines, exile, singlant, ambuscade, citarre, furet…)

10e file was much better quality than 10d.

Could you please send me a full list of files you spellchecked?

Thank you.

I have proofread 6 files so far and here are the comments I made about them:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Spaces missing in front of ? and !

There are some excel files that needs to be vetted. Both German and French.

If you prefer them grouped by the proofreader, let me know. But right now we’re just bundling whatever we have pretty much as fast as we can get them done.

—————————-

I’ve nearly finished the file 14t (I only have to proofread some passages) so you can assigne me another one.

—————————-

Here is the list of all the files I have proofread and spellchecked so far:

10a

10b

10c

10d

10e

10g

I can do it for each of the remaining files I’ve got if you want. It just takes a bit longer.

—————————-

just told me to inform you about my already spellchecked proofread files.

I always thought this is a mandatory step when proofreading and so I can inform you that every single proofread file from me is already spellchecked.

—————————-

About spellchecking, those Excel files need to be spellchecked for hyphenation. The server’s copy of Transit has been eating hyphenations and we haven’t been able to figure out why. Basically, when a segment is Alt-Ins, the hyphen will disappear.

—————————-

Thank you for the feedback.

However, please bear in mind that the files which sent to me were always partially translated by someone else, and from what I gathered I am not paid for these segments.

I noticed the inconsistencies mentioned by the proofreader, and even spent some time correcting some of them. However, my time is as precious as anyone’s, and I rapidly grew tired of correcting segments for which I am not paid.

I very likely made a few mistakes, but I most definitely did not make some of the ones mentioned here, which could only be made by someone with aproximate command of the French language.

I felt I had to mention this, as you will probably be filtering out the weaker translators for future projects.

Thanks

You are assigned German files:

JD_100201_Localize_7b

JD_100201_Localize_7c

Located in Proofread -German.

Please make them ASAP – we are closing to deadline and I need files back as early as possible.

There may be more files coming later today.

Please confirm receipt.

Thank you for your response. I’ll be waiting too.

We’ll start making notes on which files have been sent to you. This way we should be able to avoid this in the future.

May-be I will send you my vetting page that you could record what had already been vetted?

Please do! That will help me a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, some are surely mine, I’ll be careful.

Although, this good number of mistakes is mostly because I didn’t have much work to do on 10d (about 1/5 of the file), but a lot more on 10e (1/2).

I indeed saw these kind of mistakes in the strings already taken care of.

I finished all my files a week ago and received an email from that all German files were finished and the proof readers are working in the files.

I sent the files 16 d, e and f in one ziped file to .

Please check…if you received d and e you should have f as well.

Let me know if you can’t find it and I will send them again.

I am having problems with sending the files with Transit and therefore have agreed weeks ago, that I would zip the files and send them with “normal” email.

Okay, we lost file 16f. Must be during the server move.

Please resend it again. Also, try using the new upload method. It may work this time. The password is 001

says he has given me all the files he has.

Which means that we lost your files.

Can you re-upload them, but this time to the new file server?

Don’t send them to .

—————————-

Ok, I’m astonishedas I received an e-mail from yesterday saying there were still files left and that translators were needed over the week-end, but I didn’t get any news since.

Anyway, if you here anything else, I’m still available over the week-end as I wrote in my e-mail to and I can start working on a new file from this evening on.

Thank you.

—————————-

By the way I forgot to ask, but I sometimes have a few other little projects on the side, but I’ve refused everything else untill monday to stay available for this urgent project.

Just so that I can get organised with my work, do you perhaps know when the next project would start?

Thank you.

—————————-

Hi!

I did reply to your message yesterday, but the system wouldn’t sent it. I don’t know why. Anyway, already re-assigned my file. I’m too busy right know and my only XP machine to run Transit on conked.

Have a good weekend

Here is a proofreading comment on your recent files:

Proofreading Report ¢‚¬œ

JD_100201_Localize_13f

JD_100201_Localize_13g

Translation:

The translation is very literal and often lacks fluency in French.

There are many mistranslations.

Inconsistencies with glossary: the treatment of glossary terms was inconsistent, some terms received a new translation, which was confusing.

Many English terms were not translated and left as is in the translation.

Many terms received different translations throughout the files

Grammar:

Misconjugated verbs: verbs were sometimes conjugated in forms that do not exist.

Many spelling errors, some were even introduced in the inserted glossary terms.

Many syntax errors, some glossary terms do not have an article.

Punctuation:

Place names must start with a capital letter.

Item names, character titles and monster names should not start with a capital letter.

Seveal sentences do not start with a capital letter.

Some words were written in capital letters for no apparent reason.

The translation is really bad. There are major quality issues. The translation is very literal and does not sound natural, and consequently, the meaning and the syntax of the text are negatively affected. The translator still does not comply with the guidelines or does not understand them.
