Translation Agency File Translator Work Trados

(January 15)

okay, I have another job for you: vetting. You should be able to find the instructions for this at http://001yourtranslationservice.com/our_standards.html For these files it might not be as necessary because they were translated through Transit PE, which should prevent the translator from overlooking any parts. Nevertheless, this is still possible, or there might be some glitches in the program. So please go through these files and make sure everything is okay and give me your final word so that I can send them to the customer. If you find something wrong the translator will have to fix it first. It is due Tuesday so we have some time, and at least you will have an opportunity to practice this job. It is a very important job, so always make sure you are very attentive when doing it. It is the last quality control, and it looks very very bad if the customer finds something wrong. Not to mention the delay of having to send it back to us, us contacting the translator, etc. etc.

I am free to do sample translation or smaple proofreading, dont worry about the payment. And there is one more thing, I downloaded the files, WORD file is in a messy layout, it is difficult to translate this document and meanwhile keep the layout as original. So is it possible for you to convert the file into TRADOS TTX format or other localization software, like transit or SDLX. Then after translation and proofreading, convert back, we will be able to deliver a well-DTPed work, this may help us to get the project.

Dear bake

this would be great, but I would like others to look at your translation afterwards. I assume you will be dealing with the .pdf files? It will be difficult for the other translators to deal with them. Also, the original files are actually FrameMaker and InDesign, which require specially purchased filters for both Trados and Transit. Please do not start until we discuss this a bit more.

I am putting together your samples for the five languages I mentioned and just discovered two things. First of all, when I wanted to select the language Arab it asked me if I wanted Saudi Arabian Arab or Egyptian Arab. I assumed Eqyptian, and I will ask my translators if there is any difference. Please confirm if you have a preference. Second of all, I noticed that the text in the pdf files was actually text and not images, which makes things a lot easier for me and I can prepare the files for you in Transit so that I can export them, with text, in Transit and back to pdf, with all their presumably pictures intact. Are you able to work with the pdf files in any way, as opposed to Word? At least the sample files will look better.

do you have any preference for Saudi Arabian Arab or Egyptian Arab? I assumed Eqyptian, and I will ask my translators if there is any difference. Just curious, if I managed to prepare the files in pdf for you, with all the pictures intact etc., are you able to work with such files at all? Importing them, perhaps?

I just realised that the pdf files Panasonic prepared for me have the text in text and not image form, but when I tried to create a project for them Transit did not have pdf as an import option, which rather shocked me. Maybe this way I could work around the whole FrameMaker/InDesign problem. See any hope for this strategy?

We can handle the big sample translation. Moreover, for the technical details of FrameMaker and InDesign you worried about, I want to tell you that we can also handle documents in these formats. We can convert documents in these formats into the format for translation and after translation we can convert them back into FrameMaker or InDesign. That is DTP work which I mentioned before in the email to you. Our rate for DTP work like that is US$ 15 per page for PC and US$ 30 per page for Mac. And if you would like us to work directly on documents in FrameMaker or InDesign format, please inform us whether the DTP for PC or Mac before the job starts.

Dear Nancy,

I have found someone for the Chinese translation but will get back to you concerning proofreading and DTP help. I still need to sort that part out.

I am very interested in doing these translations. My rate in US-$ for translations from English into German is 0.08$/ source word. If you can arrange for payments in Euro, which I personally would prefer, I also offer you the rate of 0.06EUR/ source word. I would again apply the terms of payment we established for the first assessment: payment is to be made inside 45 days after the date of my invoice.

I have not processed the assessments accounting yet but hope to do so soon. Okay, please go ahead and translate it. I received some work this month, so I hope to pay you for everything within your deadline. I can pay in Euros as well.

Yes, I'm quite willing to help you with the final translation sample, whether to translate or to review. Please let me know which you'd like me to do. Meanwhile, all the best from windy France!

okay, please go ahead and translate the samples. Instructions in the previous email I sent you, or you can find the big samples in the usual Panasonic folder through download.kenax.cz.

Attached is the complete translation, let me know you received this and let me know if everything looks ok.

Dear Jochen

looked at the project status and it said that 24 words in the file Medewerkster Oderpicking were not translated, so I opened the file, and fortunately, you had translated those phrases before, so the program completed your translation for me. I think I'm beginning to love this system, and didn't realise I was a Dutch to English translator, heh heh. I'd like to get into the habit of using this software for all larger projects. If the customer does not demand a discount concerning repetitions like for this one, I will share the profits with you in some way to make sure you always make more using this program than with the normal Word system. Unfortunately, this time we could not apply the dictionary to your translations, but how was it in general?

Here are the files. What is the Trados rate? The client wants this job to be done on Trados.

translation done and getting it vetted now, but doing the accounting and found discrepancies in our word counts. Would it be okay to charge for 9005 words. That is how much I paid the translator for his translation work.

here are the exported files for the Dutch. Don't forget to compare in Page Layout view so that you can see the graphs and all that. When you are done, please send them to me so that I can forward them to the customer. Make sure you check the Properties and erase the translator's name found there, if found. You do not need to compute the word counts in this case, as Transit already did that.

okay, recreated the Batch 05 files for you, all into a single file. Perhaps you could compare the result against what I previously sent you. I got the program to translate for you all the dictionary terms, but it includes the dictionary terms I have been adding, so we shall see if this helps you at all. This is the first time I am organising a project like this so I am learning myself. The file I sent you now should also include your translations, so if anything is repeated, it should speed you up, although you will get paid just the same. I'm curious how this will all work out and I'd like to use this system for all my translations from now on.

Hello, my name is Eugene, I present a team (from Russia) of designers and programmers (for now just 5 peoples, but if need we can expand our staff) who can extremelly decrease and simplify the translation work. Your translation memory will be clean from broken phrases and unneeded symbols. Our work consists of preparing text for translation and restoring the original document formatting after the translation was done. We work with very different document formats (PDF, Word, Visio, AutoCAD, Power Point and many others), many of witch are difficult for translating sometimes... We JUST EXCTRACT TEXT from file to SUPPORTED BY YOUR'S TRANSLATION PROGRAM file format. Our prices are LOW in comparison with yours INCOME. We can RECOGNIZE text from 10 pages/day for one worker up to 500 pages/day for one worker, because of difficulty of text original.

Dear Eugene

what programs do you use? I use Transit but at the moment I have a customer sending me stuff in InDesign and FrameMaker, and it requires buying some expensive filter from Transit, and due to a long explanation they won't even sell me this. Otherwise, you can fill in the application forms below.

2 days passed and I still didn't get your signal to start translating the required sample! Please provide deadline and client's instructions to follow Accept my utmost respects,

Dear Hanan

should have sent you an email this morning asking you to do this. I get a lot of emails and work on many things at once, so I cannot always respond quickly, although I am training someone at the moment to help me with this.

Im afraid , i cant help you with Urdu... I'm fluent only in English and Sinhalese.. Hoping to co-operate with you soon,

Dear Nilumi

are there not a lot of Urdu speakers in India? One important job of a remote worker is to help me find more translators. I would like at least 30 translators in a particular language combination, preferably a hundred or more. Right now I need more Urdu translators for this particular project. Most translators are not good quality, hence strength in higher numbers.

I remember my Transit expert telling me that the free version of Trados Workbench 7 no longer creates the Repetitions file like version 6 did. So are you saying that the Trados files my friend uploaded to the server for me are not full cracked versions and cannot be used by the translators? Transit is good because I have the full version and can prepare the projects, while the translators can download and work in the free version. The problem with Trados is, not only is it more expensive than Transit, and apparently not as good, but the translators must also pay quite a bit of money just to use it while translating, even though they are not preparing the projects. But some translators and customers prefer using it, so I am trying to learn if I can combine the two programs somehow. If I could find a full cracked version of Trados, then I can offer it to my translators when we are forced to use it by some customer. Otherwise, Transit has managed up to now. I wonder why Trados said there were 29% repetitions while Wordfast 25%. This last customer wants to pay as if 29% was repeating (he has Trados and used it to compute the statistics), while I paid the translator more, so it would be good to figure out this discrepancy, so that the customer can pay me the full price in the future and doesn't short change me. Were you able to create a Repetitions file using Trados? If so, perhaps you could compare it against the Repetitions file created by Transit (total number of words for each of the files). I am excited to be using Transit with these last few projects, and have decided I will try to use it for all future larger projects. And slowly start building up a massive translation memory, such that in the future perhaps 90% of a translation could be translated for free for me. My plan is to share the profits with the translator so that he will always earn more when translating this way.

Signing out,

Karel

So looks like I got a bunch of work this month. If my accounting is correct, which I find hard to believe, I may have already made one third during this half month as I did all of last year, which certainly was not very much.

One of the jobs is for Presto translation agency in Prague. They got a big translation for Burger King in Germany. About 400 pages from German to English translation, but a lot of it repeats so they are using the translation memory program, but couldn't find enough German to English translators, so translated it through Czech, but then couldn't find any Czech to English translators who were will to translate in the translation memory software, so they finall referred to me. So it looks like I am saving their entire project for them, putting the entire mess together. But half of what I am translating I don't even understand. Recent example:

Absolute construction hell which I really don't like. So I approached all my Czech to English translators for

I've been going over your translation and I find it amazing how you can translate this stuff, and what's more from my own born language to my native language, better than I could dream of. Do you have a degree in construction or something? And electronics? You have saved my life with this. I think I'll need you to help me polish up my own translation and we'll figure out some juicy payment scheme for you. Concerning your last email which I have not download to my computer yet, sure, I'm always up for some tips from other gurus. But I'm a bit of a guru myself. One of the advantages of Transit is the translator does not have to pay for their version, so anyone can use it. I eventually hope to use all my translations through this program and build up a massive translation memory. When I get customers who do not know about it, unlike this customer, I will share the savings with the translator so that they will always make more using this program. For this project though, I don't know if it will save you much time, but am interested in any comments you might have.
