OK, I have a question about 18b.
There are cases , when sentence in English starts from a new line.
For example:
They will not be able to
concentrate enough to use their skills for the duration.
^11ff11Second Degree Pain of Sorrow.

There is lots of space to put a bit of it near the previous sentence, but it must should be together so was “entered” as new line. Does it matter to be the same way in German, cause in German it is :

der Lage sein, sich ausreichend zu konzentrieren, um ihre Fähigkeiten anzuwenden. ^11ff11Schmerz des Kummers zweiten Grades.

There is no problem at all. Click Send (not Export!), and then you don’t need to find the file, you need to NAME the file and choose where to save it. And this file you named (and not found) will be your file in txf format.

So nothing wrong, just type the name and save it. Don’t forget to Send the Add_New glossary with your project if you were adding any terms.

Hope it helps.

I have a question regarding the strings, as Karel explicitly instructed us in an email, that they should not be translated. Now I found the following string in my file 《Art of War》, which was automatically translated when I inserted the glossary terms in the beginning. Should I overwrite it with the English term again or rather leave it alone?
Thanks for advising

To see exactly the alignment of the English source, click on the source cell. Above the working plane, there is a function line, which displays the content of the cell aligned. At least like this is is in MS excel, I don’t know how about Open Office. If it’s like this, it shows very well.

It is better if German would look same as English, but I would check myself.
Please tell me the line number, and I will check more precisely.

It is a difficult file.

I went over your German files – few remarks.

About abbreviated terms you already know; in 2 or 3 places was a space between sentence and …, which is not necessary in German and was not in English; and I found two “lost hyphens” out of which 1 remained for proofreader and 2 periods which were not in English (such phrases without period may be inserted in a game as parts of other sentences, so we follow the English precisely).

———————-

Yes, you are right. Spaces after …. I ll put more attention to this.About hypens, I believe -Gut! My fault , I though I have deleted it before. I ll do on hyphens better check. And on periods also.

About text I have doubts, please have a look at : 39, 18b.

Yes, message here.

Please read the explanation bellow and the instructions attached.

We are managing a very big translation project (1500000 words). The project is translation of a Video Game from English into German and French. Each file goes roughly the following steps:
1. Is imported to Transit, special translation memory software, and then translated by German or French linguists.
2. Is proofread by proofreader.
3. Is exported back to Excel – the resulting file contains only the translation column.
4. Is going through vetting.
5. Is going through spellchecking with proofreader.

Sometimes in the process of transferring the file from one software to other happen small non linguistic mistakes, for example, some characters were replaced by other symbols prior to exporting to Transit because they were causing problems and now need to be replaced back. Sometimes is missing space between sentences, sometimes there are double or strangely located hyphens. Sometimes translators don’t pay attention and leave extra spaces, periods, or several capitalized characters in one word etc.

Here enters the process of vetting.
Usually you will download from a dedicated server a zipped file, containing a folder with proofread files and a folder with unproofread (sometimes called “translated”) files.

You will work only on those files, which I will assign to you.

We work in two steps.
First, we save the .xls files in txt format, open in Word and compare proofread files to unproofread files to see if the file had really been proofread.
If it was, we open the proofread file again in Excel, copy into it English source text, and start vetting.
So vetting is always done in Excel on proofread target (German/French) text against the source (English) text. The purpose of vetting is to find differences from the source, to see if anything is missing and to introduce these minor corrections, or, alternatively, to communicate these differences to proofreader.

Sometimes it is not clear if there is a small missed moment we can correct or a real linguistic mistake. For example, if in the source there is a question mark, but in the target there is a period, you can not just change the period to question mark, because in most languages the structure of the sentence would change. These kinds of cases are communicated to me, and I communicate them to proofreader.

Now, detailed instructions are attached. Please read them, and let me know if everything is clear.
Also try to connect to FTP server and let me know if you are connected.

You can use PayPal to pay on online shops, but as far as I know there is an activity limitation if you hadn’t registered your account with neither credit card nor bank account. This is something which is up to you to check.

By the way, I also have a difficulty determining your gender from your name.

Now there are some conditions to beginning this work.

1. I need to train you. That means to assign you a file. Then I need it back same day within maximum 2 hours, so that I could check it and get back to you with corrections and comments. And like this should be 4-6 files. I live at GMT+6 and work from 4am GMT to 4 pm GMT. For a few days you would have to be online in this period.

2. You should do what I send you as soon as I send it and return it to me once you’re done, so that I will have time to check it and get back to you with comments that same day.

3. All assigned files should be completed the same day they were assigned unless agreed otherwise.

If you think you can follow this, please let me know ASAP, and I will give you instructions to read.

I am interested in hiring you, but as I see you are online mostly in the evenings. If I take you, it means you have to undergo training with me. And I am available from 4am to 4pm GMT. If you are interested, for a few days you must be available for 4-5 hours a day in this interval. Let me know if you can do it and tell me when.

Should I pay attention to the order in the sentence.
Like if I have the sentence started:
“^11ff11Charge^ffffff’s chance” and
“Die Chance, dass ^11ff11Aufladen^ffffff”.

Or
the end like:
“^ffcb4a%d%%^ffffff with every consecutive rank”

“mit jedem aufeinander folgenden Rang um ^ffcb4a%d%%^ffffff erhöht.”

———————-

Please, segment number! It is very difficult to understand not looking at the file.

———————-

Ok, sorry.
please have a look at 18b.
Line 21. Please pay attention to the 3th line in the cell.
Is this order of sentences ok?

Line 106. 3th line inside of the cell.

———————-

I hope you are fine.

Has the test translation already been evaluated?

If there is any work to do, please let me know.

Thank you and kind
Patrick

Patric

It usually takes more that a week for the sample evaluations. Karel will get back to you directly.

In these ones it is all correct. You see, these commands may either introduce a special formatting to the word they surround (like Fantasy in line 21), or be some numerical values, then their logical location in the sentence should correspond to the language, like in line 106 and like second sentence in segment 21.

Rudiger

I think this one should be translated.
It does not look like a command.
