Translation Translated Glossary Terms Project

just uploaded the 01_alpha_reps_file.
This file was extremely bad. So many mistakes, not only wrong word choice also horrible grammar and orthographical mistakes, etc.
I proofread 10 hours.

I finished proofing file 02_194_DEU_tobe_proofed.PXF and uploaded it. I just spotchecked the pretranslation but there were many terms from an old glossary that I had to exchange for consistency. All in all it took me 55 minutes.

If you have any other proofrading for me for today, please inform me ASAP because I´ll be unavailable from today afternoon till tomorrow noon/afternoon.

we will wait for you till tomorrow.

I completely understand that a project this size requires CAT tools. I just don’t like them. It takes ages to get used to them and until that point they are a source for error.

Anyway, I think I got it now. I played around with the program some more and managed to import a sample project and a dictionary and I think I have a basic idea of how to work with Transit now (although there are entire week-long seminars on Transit in translator communities, so I think it’s impossible to learn every little detail in self-study).

When will I receive the first assignment? It would be great if I could start with something rather short to make sure that I understood everything correctly and that you will be satisfied with my work.

Looking forward to your reply!

Claudia

I believe you’ve also got an e-mail from Karel that he is still working on instructions for translators. I guess he will let us know when he’s done and we can start assigning files.

Before you get your first assignment, please, answer the questions below, so that we could make sure you understood everything right.

Questions:

* what are the procedures if you are not certain of your translation?
* how do we deal with hyphens when translating?
* how do you attach a glossary to a project and transfer the terms into your translation?
* how do you mark a segment as Translated and what is the shortcut key to transfer the text from the fuzzy window? (ALT 2 jumps without transferring the contents.)
* what is the rule for quotation marks?
* how do you deal with Chinese characters when you get to them?

You can use any FTP manager, like Total Commander for example. If you don’t have any FTP Manager installed on your PC you can download TC from here http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm.
Then open it, open settings for FTP connection (you can use a Ctrl+F shortcut) and create new connection using the data you have.
From the FTP server, you need to download Transit_XV zip file.

TC window is divided into 2 segments. In our case one of them reflects FTP directory and its consistance, another- folders of your PC. In the segment of your PC find a directory where you want to download Transit. Then point the mouse on the name Transit_XV, press the left button, and drag it to the segment of your PC folders. Downloading will start.

sorry for taking your busy time, but we need your opinion on quality issue here.

Here’s the situation.  translates a repetitions file.  proofreads it and thinks the translation is very bad. This is odd, because usually  does a good job.

So we need your opinion on whether this is just a case of differing opinions, or if  wasn’t concentrating and the translation is really have a lot of errors.

The comparison file is a Word file that has all the differences between  and ‘s versions marked. If you use that one you can probably form an educated opinion in an hour or so. However, I’m also including ‘s translation file and ‘s proofread file should you need to refer to the individual files.

Since this is a Repetition file, it gets priority over your regular translation files. We’ll accept the delay on the delivery of the other files. I think the report wouldn’t take long though, because we just need a second opinion here.

PS: Open Ticket only allow two attachment, so here’s the third file.

PPS: Write down how much time you spend on the report too.

Rudiger, are you available for more translation work?

There are about 100,000 words to be translated and you can have as many as you can finish in a week. Well, 5 days. Let us know.

———————-

it’s Wednesday, and we would like to know if you’re available for Kenax work again.

Things we need to do:
1. Create “difference” file between the older glossary and the current file. We will then do a search and replace on the older vetted Excel files to make sure it’s consistent with the current glossary.
2. Update the glossary as necessary (always).  did one update (21 June), but that’s the only update so far.
3. Translate… oh, 100,000 words. You can have as many out of those as you (and your team) can handle until Monday afternoon.

Fabian still has not contacted us as far as I can tell. Please ask him to write in Open Ticket Z_Get and set his profile to get email notification.

Please contact us.

Sorry, but right now I’m not available.

Hi, Lee, this is .

Valeria is a bit busy, so I’m jumping in to help out.

First, I need to know how far you managed your set-up.
Did you get Transit up and running yet?

———————-

You will be contacted shortly.

, your proofread of file 194 has some problems in it. First, 260 words were marked untranslated despite the fact that it’s in German. This isn’t the big deal though.

Next, looking at the “untranslated segments” shows the Achilles’s Shoulder is translated Achilles’ Schild while Achilles’s Shield is translated as Achilles’ Schulter. This doesn’t match the glossary nor precedent with similar terms. Since I don’t know German, I can’t check the rest of the file to see whether they’re translated correctly.

Please double-check your file 194. Please make sure that everything that’s translated are marked Translated and that there’s no more switched error like I described above. When you are sure you’ve fixed everything, please re-upload them.
