Translated German Context Proofreading

I have no idea why this happened. I thought I did everything like last time, I used “send” to create a txf file out of the translated file. I thought I was sending every file only once.

Sophie

File 207, segment 3501.
Sage N/A之 Greaves —> Weisen N/A之 Greaves

The Greaves should be translated. N/A refers to the Chinese character. The Chinese character also causes that part to be tag-protected, so turn off tag protection, translate Greaves, and turn it back on.

File 208, segment 1223-1237
Battle of the Immortals translated (partially?) as Sclacht of Die Immortals
BOI as BoI.

File 209, segment 3381, 3383, 3384 are not marked as translated although it’s in German. These ones are odd because the segment filter shows that they aren’t a pretranslation, fuzzy-match, or edited by a person. So how did it get translated?

As far as I can tell, these aren’t necessarily your fault but rather due to our policy of using filters and proofing only those. I still maintain that you should always look for untranslated and partially translated segments. I need to talk with Karel and get his okay to proofread everything instead of just translator-edited parts.

Sorry to hear you’ve been sick, hope you feel better.

About your first question: I sent a message to you via BOI (might have sent it to by mistake) explaining that the first version of 162 contained an untranslated segemnt and therefore I resent it. Please use file 162 (2).

About your second question: I was told by Karel to not send everything at once but in batches. File 170 contains everything.

Let me know if you have any other questions and when I can expect the next files.

I wasn’t aware of such plans until you told me. I’ve asked Karel for details but he hasn’t answered yet. If we really need to change capitalization rules (I wonder what they want to change it TO??), the first step would be to argue against it :-). Other than that, we would have to change A LOT of glossary terms and A LOT of text already translated.
In that context I’m warning you of a major glossary change as well, due to tribulations with the client about cross-term consistency. But we have nothing final yet.

Also, Sophie told me she applied for more proofreading and hasn’t heard from the team yet.
Fabian is ready to get in as translator, too, so if he’s needed, you could tell me and I will forward contacts.

I’ve been sick with stomach flu for 3 days (still sick, but getting much better) and what little energy I had went to JD.repair.

Catching up on the backlog of emails and files and hope I can give you an update on our status and work assignment tomorrow.

Britta, sorry to say this, but it looks like we won’t have work for you until about late next week.

If I haven’t been communicative, it’s because we’ve been busy with complying with the client’s wishes with Jade Dynasty. On the other hand, the German part for that is over with, and unless they find fault with it and cut us off entirely (let’s hope not), we’re continuing with Battle of the Immortals.

Kristof, I apologize for being out of touch. I’m sorry to say that it doesn’t look like we will have any work for you until about late next week.

We’ve been busy with complying with our client’s wishes regarding Jade Dynasty. The good thing is the German side for it is done, so we can go back concentrating on the BOI.

thanks for your message, hope you feel well and hope to hear from you tomorrow.

I apologize for neglecting you so long. We’ve been busy with complying with our client’s wishes regarding Jade Dynasty. Right now the German side of that is finished, so we can concentrate on BOI German again.

However, I don’t expect to have any work for you until late next week. If I didn’t contact you then, post a reminder here.

Hi

good to hear from you. I hope you get well soon!

I reuploaded 203-5 as

03_203-205_DEU_Proofread_Sebastian_June9_re.TXF

Now all the files are there (and also the latest changes, I made sure by opening the files with a text editor). I don’t really understand what happened, but I actually had to change something in each file before transit would include it, probably it is related to backing up and restoring the project earlier…

This is the vbs script we have right now. To a certain extent, it works, but the programmer made an assumption that is completely unlike our situation.

The script has been tested and it works. However, it only checks the first column. Any other columns are ignored. It also thinks that it reaches the end of the worksheet whenever it meets 3 blank rows and moves on to the next sheet. Oh, your Terms file must not have a gap in it. If you have a gap in it, the search think it’s done.

The three blank rows limit means the script needs to be tweaked more before we can use it, since many files have those gaps (some gaps goes to several hundreds).

If you know some Visual Basic and want to tweak it, please do.

I am not a programmer and I do not know much about Virtual Basic, but if I understand correctly, I would have to insert all terms with their replacement in the terms.xls. This is going to be very tedious. On top of that, item names have to be capitalized when they are at the beginning of the cell, so for every term, I would either have to search manually or to replace every term, then look for cells that contain only the item name and capitalize it. This seems quite long.
I remember that for section 14, I wrote down the name of the translators who added capitals to item names ‘Dario7, Rachid, Dario11). So section 14 could be checked manually pretty quickly.
Let me know what you want me to do. In the meantime, I’ll keep working on section 17.

I don’t understand how to use it either.
I will contact and we’ll see what to do. At this point I need to have files for vetting ASAP.

Sophie, Karel gave the okay for a full proofreading. He does request that the pretranslated parts are given only a light proofreading.

Look for untranslated, partially translated, and out-of-context stuff.

Also, what were the proofreading hours for the three files originally?

———————-

I’ve found that our approach of using the filter to just proof the translator edited parts is backfiring.

Out of context pre-translated parts and untranslated parts went past the proofreaders and it only by happenstance that I noticed it.

Battle
of
the
Immortals

became
Schlacht
of
Die
Immortals

and this does not show up when filtered. 🙁

This means that everyone will have to proof whole files from now on. At least for Section 2, 3, and 4.

Karel suggests that for the pretranslated parts you can just give it a light proofreading. Focus on untranslated, partially translated, and out of context stuff.

With that regard, please redo your proof of file 214, 215, etc.

I also believe that they’re done using June 8th glossary instead of June 9th. Can you make sure they follow the newest glossary too? I think the attached file pretty much show you all the changes from the 8th to the 9th.

Karel said you have a search and replace macro/script?
Can you send a copy and tell me how it works?

———————-

alright!

the hours:
part 207: 2:45
part 208: 2:15
part 209: 3:15

get well soon!

I will work on section 14 and check it manually.
Do you want me to send the files as I go or do you want me to send the whole section?

JM

———————-

, it’s actually downloadable from the internet. The problem is that it is in German (the site, anyway, the program can be switched to English). It also requires a free registration. Here is the link. I cannot attach the file here, it’s too large. I could upload it to the fileserver, if you want. It has to be installed into the office package and will function as an add-on. You can add a list of Excel files / sheets for it to search and have it search and replace up to 10 terms in one go (see attached screenshot). If you need help, please tell me.

Ignore the second image, just couldnt figure out how to remove it.
