German Proofreading Files Project

Yes, there must have been a trouble with CS.

Thank you very much!

———————-

Gerald, below I post another “list of advices” for you from lead translator now.
————————————————————–

Most common mistakes:

-sloppy proofreading (copy-pasting into Word and running spellcheck reveals many errors quickly)
-obsolete dictionary terms
-hyphens not changed into °°° (use of tag protection, careful!)
-sloppy checking of fuzzy matches, leading to mismatches of terminology
-sticking too close to the source (especially because so much of the source text is simply rotten eggs), which may lead to skipping articles, endings, not adjusting grammar…
-not paying attention to singular/plural (because glossary may contain only singular)
-delimiters in numbers (1.5 becomes 1,5 and 1,000 becomes 1.000)
-not applying project-specific hyphenation rules
-leaving English terms in the target text
-not matching the register/style/atmosphere by using very modern/informal language
-not trying to get into the “look and feel” of the game
-simply not minding context and possible meanings/too literal translations

Things to watch out for:

-Exchanging all – with °°°
-Exchanging number delimiters
-Finding and erasing double spaces within sentences or spaces in front of punctuation
-segmentation issues:
Some segments may contain the beginnings of sentences, but the continuation may not be in the next segment. In the worst case, it is not even in the same file (as is the case with some reps files). Ideally, we should either try to locate the respective sentence in the source (Excel) files (please ask PMs if you do not have them yet) or, if it is possible in that same file and adjust the sentences/sentence parts correspondingly. If not possible, we should try to keep the sentence fragments as easy to correct (for someone that has the other fragments in front of them), avoiding things like:
If you have this part:

You should adjust

but cannot find this part:

the Pet Skill accordingly.

Then don’t do this:

Ihr solltet anpassen

but leave it as:

Ihr solltet

If you come across such issues, it would be good to make a note (if possible, in a very clear and precise way so it is easily retraceable).

Alright, on top of my mind, those are the most important things. Please feel absolutely free to contact me on any issues anytime. If someting springs to my mind that I haven’t shared here, I’ll let you know right away.
————————————————————

Hope these notes will also help you. But if you have linguistic questions you may address them directly to  via CS.

Okay, I have got the files and will take a look at them later this evening.

Regarding ‘s comments: I think they should cover everything 😉

Best Gerald

Doris.

BTW, you may not waste your time for creating PXF files before you upload proofed files. TXF is OK.

Hi

I looked at the files — they have to be proofread, but some passages are fine, so I don’t think starting over is necessary. So if you agree I’ll just take the lates file with the fixed segmentation and proofread that. It’s always difficult to project the time before actually working through the file, but a rough estimate, it could be something in the range of the files above which were 60-90 minutes per file (although those had a bigger wordcount).

So if you give me the go ahead, I’ll do these tomorrow, and I can take more in any case — unless I’ve missed something, Susanne’s files are currently my only assignment.

Can you give me a quick update about the stage of the project – how much work to expect, and when? Am I correct in assuming that there are no more files to translate at this point?

Sebastian

Re: 28-29. Go ahead.

At this point we’re finishing up spot-checking and the occasional proofreading. This will a couple days at most. At about the same time we export everything back to Excel.

Meanwhile  is working on a search and replace list, mostly as a way to update the older files (which still uses older glossary terms).

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the polishing stage of Jade Dynasty. I lost track of who was working on that, but it’s going to be similar.

Yes, there is no more files to translate at this point.

———————-

Gerald, you don’t have to do Send everytime you finish something. Finish everything, then Send. You’ll get a file containing all the files you’ve worked on. The only exception is when the files are different project (e.g., 05_part_295 is from section 5 while 01_part_124 is from section 01_zeta).

Your 01_part_127_Proofed_Gerald.TXF actually contains all 124-127. I’ve renamed it and deleted the extraneous files.

Okay, sorry, I wasn’t aware of that.

everybody

I have just uploaded the spotchecked files.

103: 15 minutes
104: 25 minutes
105: 30 minutes
106: 2 hours (this was indeed quite a problematic file with uncountable grammar and punctuation mistakes, factually wrong translations etc.)
107: 50 minutes

Best Gerald

I got my first payment (on paypal)… does it refer to my first 3 files? At least I think so, when looking at the accounting sheet. I couldn’t find any reference to the files I translated in connection to the payment in the KENAX email.

Is the BOI project going to continue soon?

All the best and till soon

Gerald

Thank you and next files for you to spotcheck:
01_part_144
01_part_145
01_part_146
01_part_147

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading/German/Notes%20German%20Annika%20Translation_01_eta_145.txt

Overall the files shouldn’t be problematic- all translators are good enough. There are 61 untranslated words in 145 file. Make sure to translate them please.

Please, confirm.

———————-

Okay, I have got everything.

I am going to start the check in about one and a half hours.

Best Gerald

You must have received an excel file with list of fies which are covered by the current payment. Yes, it covers 3 first files you translated
05_part_269
01_part_014
01_part_043
All other files were proceeded later than counting was performed, so you will be paid for the rest of your work while the next round of payments.

For this moment we are done with translation part of BOI and at really can not predict when new work for German translators appears. Once we get next German project – we will contact you.

.

We are already done with translation of the project, so unfortunately have nothing to offer you.
We will definitely contact you once we get next German project.

Thank you for your work.

———————-

Hi !

I see, thanks! Any idea when the next project is going to happen?

Cheers

———————-

No, any idea yet. Soon…hope. Will let you know once we have such information at our disposal.

———————-

I have uploaded the spotchecked files 144 to 147.

144: 15 minutes
145: 45 minutes
146: 50 minutes (very bad quality, maybe not the right translator for computer terms – on the other hand, the source text was catastrophical at times)
147: 40 minutes (not a good quality)

More files:

01_part_141
01_part_148
01_part_149
01_part_152

All files must be good, at least I have got good testimonials about these translators, but would like to know your impression about translators of 141,148,152 files.

Notes:

Sorry, projects are formed inconvenient this time, planned to divide the proofreading another way but changed my mind.

Please, confirm.

Okay, I’ll let you know.

Best Gerald

I am free again. Can you asign a new file to me?

Annette

———————-

Assign you next files an advance:
01_part_142
Steffen 01_part_143
Holger 01_part_153
Holger 01_part_154
Gerald 01_part_160

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading/German/01_eta_148-149_160_DEU_for_spotting.PXF

By the way, these are the last files to be proofread.

Please, provide us your brief feedback about Steffen and Holger for the last time. ly speaking I didn’t manage to compose full picture of how they work.

And one more thing, you were not satisfied with ‘s work the other day(92 file), and now I’ve got the same feedback from another proofreader. But I found your first comment from you, which is not that pessimistic in fact. I attach it, could you review it and let me know your final point of view. It may be useful for future projects.

Thank you 🙂

Seems I mixed 2nd and 3rd links.

At this point we are done with translation of the project. So I have nothing to assign you. We’ll let you know once we have a new German project.

Thank you for your work
