Working Terms of Translated Glossary from Dictionary Proofreader

I am not awailable until the end of week or may be longer. I have health problems and I am in the hospital for some time. I’ll inform, when I’ll be available.

—————————-

I have completed, that is to say, routing vetting.

But I have to check my vetting once again, due to the following reasons:

– I have found a number of serious mistakes in 15u, like mixed commands (l instead of i, w instead of W etc.);

– files 17s and 17t are complicated for tracing of sligh mistakes like missing or extra space.

So, please could you grant me about 3 hours to complete this assignment.

I am sorry to hear you are not being well. I had forwarded your invoice to , he is asking that you would e-mail him directly to confirm it.

I wish you to get better.

Take the time you need to do it. Don’t make it rush, make it well.

I will be revetting files of the other PMs, and in your files I will check only problematic issues. So just leave clear comments on the third column where are doubts, and I will communicate them to proofreader. If not sure – better not to change and leave a comment. I also noticed that in many cases when were issues of question and exclamation marks, proofreader found that in spite of the difference, target does not need to be changed. So again, just comment.

Just please let me know when you are done as I have few more files. Just let me know how is your availability, that will not think that I’m distracting you from Transit issues.

To let you know – our delivery is tomorrow evening, that’s the reason I rush.

Thank you very much indeed. I see the situation and try to do my best. Unfortunately, now I am within few hours of my partial availability and this hamper me a bit, but the completion of vetting should not take so much time.

Petra

Please let me know how is it going with the files. We need to deliver them tomorrow, and after you deliver I still need to check them and to have them spellchecked. Please let me know ASAP.

I see 15u and the other two files in the vetted folders on the server. Are they not completed?

Please let me know, as I feel a bit confused.

I am assigning you 2 more files:

JD_100201_Localize_17c

JD_100201_Localize_17d

Don’t wait for me, do them, and I will be now going over the ones you sentght and if I’ll have any comments, I will let you know.

Danish

I would like to know when are you ready to begin working.

I had registered you to our Communication system. You can login with Danish and password is your Surname. Both capitalized.

I apologize that it took me ages to get back to you – I was buried under a mountain of support questions.

We can use both. The one where uploads files for translators has one folder we can use.

I didn’t know has an Excel version of glossary. I personally think translators would be happy to have it – Excel is easily searchable. Therefore, if someone has a term like “Malicious Knight”, which is new and does not appear in the Main Dictionary, he can check separately how were translated the words “Malicious” and “Knight” in other combinations of words. It is easier than to search in the Transit glossary. But about this we need to ask .

this would be excellent!!! By the way, which FTP server do you mean? The one where uploads his files for the translators or the one inside the virtual office?

Do you think it would be a good idea to also upload daily to FTP-Server the latest dictionary from (Excel), just for reference?

—————————-

Were you the proofreader who did’s files? I have already her files s and t vetted, but told me that you want to make corrections to files x and y. I am a bit confused. Were these files proofread? Or do you want her to make changes first?

One more thing. I have few files ready for spellchecking. But they contain several issues, which need to be resolved by a proofreader. Before I wanted translator who spellchecks to resolve, but she was not able.

Do you think I could send you these files?

—————————-

Thank you for your answers.

I fear that we have a history of inconsistency with the &family& strings. I had vetted several files where they were not translated, but yesterday I had a proofread file, where they were in German! Do you think you can give a precise advice on this issue, so that would forward it to all German translators?

unfortunately, I do not really have a final answer, but since I have found such strings (family, name, etc) to be protected in some files, I have subsequently not translated them. The one example where it has been translated may actually be an early file I translated in which it was not protected. To be safe, I would say to leave all these strings as in the source.

About the quotation marks issue.

The issue has been fixed in the latest dictionary, which unfortunately is not completely set up yet. Until then, I suggest either to manually change the unwanted insertions or, if you know what you are doing, to change the terms in Transit/Termstar glossary. As to formats, we use the ” instead of ‘ for the German files.

Thank you very much and sorry for the late answer.

You address the lead translator hrough me.

This is his response to your yesterday’s question:

“unfortunately, I do not really have a final answer, but since I have found such strings (family, name, etc) to be protected in some files, I have subsequently not translated them. The one example where it has been translated may actually be an early file I translated in which it was not protected. To be safe, I would say to leave all these strings as in the source.”

I’ll ask him about the abbreviations right away.

Sorry to bother again. Can I adress the lead translator directly or do I have to do it through you?

I need to know whether Abreviations like:

PWE

RES

NPC

have already been translated or should be left as they are.

I need this to finish a file.

Thank you.

Today I have one more question about abbreviations (I’m afraid not the last for today):

“I need to know whether Abbreviations like:

PWE

RES

NPC

have already been translated or should be left as they are.”

Thank you.

I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you – I was overloaded with technical support.

You can always address your problems with Transit to me, and we will try to resolve them. Additionally, one person is now training to be specialized on Transit support – I hope it will be helpful.

We had been discussing yesterday the issue of how pretranslated segments influence the overall evaluation of the proofreader. Unfortunately, she can not distinguish where is your work and where is the pretranslated segment. She is aware of the fact, and she apologizes if certain part of the comment was due to faults in the pretranslated segments.

In any case, just for certainty, please check that you are working with the most updated glossary.

As to capitalization issues – today published a new guideline with very detailed explanation to this issue. He sent a mass mail with a link to it. If you haven’t received it, please let me know and I will post it here.

I believe will agree if you gave him a discount for these files, and they will be corrected by proofreader. I will speak about this with him right away.

Please continue posting your comments to translated files – I forward everything to the lead translator, and they are definitely beneficial.

Thank you for your feedback. Could you please ensure that the file the proofreader is working on is the latest one, as I experienced a lot of problems with Transit recently. has the last one with all segments translated.

As far as I know, there is no English term I have left untranslated and I have already used the lastest glossary. If some terms are still in English or do not follow the new glossary, it is very likely that those are part of segments marked as translated and fuzzymatched. For those, unfortunately, I can’t do anything, as agreed with . If there are untranslated english words in segments I have translated, could you please provide me with a few exemple, to help me understand the problem.

Regarding some translation mistakes and the capital letters, as highlited, and considering the difficulties I had on those files, I am not really willing to rework them. If this is acceptable to , I will submit a discount price per word for those two files.

—————————-

I have some unfinished business to take care of this week, so I’m planning to start working fron next Monday-Tuesday.

No, you do not modify pretranslated segments. Only ones you work on.

This will be done during proofreading.

Some already translated segments contain things such as “Tribu Poisson”, and if we follow the instructions, il should be “tribu poisson”.

Do I have to modify these segments?

—————————-

yes, those files were assigned to me. told me to send problematic files back to the translator to fix them and start proofreading them AFTER that. So’s files x and y have not been proofread yet (s and t have, though). Maybe she can use them (s and t) as an example?

About the spellchecking files: I do not have much time, so if they are due very soon, I cannot do them, unfortunately. If they are due after tomorrow, I can do them, though.

About the file server:

I’m still uncertain on where to upload files to be corrected. Should I just send them to or upload them to your “Returned” folder? Is that folder on http://001yourtranslationservice.com/newsystem/communicate/c_main.php# or is it the file server of (http://translationstop.com/files/)?

About the dictionary: told me he has contacted on this and is confident that very soon, updates to the glossary can be done through Transit very quickly, so he sees no need for updated glossaries (Excel) for all the translators.

I hope this helps, thank you very much

Just to clarify it a bit more – adding entries to Main dictionary doesn’t help at all – does not incorporate these exports. He uses only Add dictionaries for that. So when Sending, make sure that the dictionary which is going to be sent is the Add dictionary.

Whatever you did to the Main dictionary remains privately on your computer and doesn’t disturb no one, so there is no need to remove the entries.

I hope now it’s a bit more clear and a bit less stressful.

Thank you so much for your explanation.

Now what was quite confused in my mind is perceived more clearly.

Due to the fear of being blamed for using the wrong dictionary when I complete and send my file (it did happen) I had to add some 4 to 5 entries in the Video.French_MAIN.

I know to way to delete just those entries if the thing is too bad.

If not, I’m switching henceforth to the Add_New when necessary.

Again, I’m so grateful for your help.

Please upload a scrin-shot, but not here, please do it on OT.

I will try to see what it is then.

I changed the view settings, there are less codes on the page, but it’s still not the translation environment.

I upload the screenshot. I also aked and he said he had never seen that before. We think that it would be best to reinstall the program. What do you think ?

regarding the family/name strings. They should be left alone (left as in the source, English). Proofreaders should turn already translated strings of that kind back to English.

About abbreviations:

PWE=MHT (Macht)

RES=WID (Widerstand) should be in dictionary already.

NPC=NSC (Nicht-Spieler-Charakter)

—————————-

Are you working with “Show Short Tags” selected? I feel this is the root of the problem in your first file. Transit converted the u^ to tags, but it looks like you were working with “hide tags” on, so you saw the u^ simply disappearing. While they actually became tags. So when you inserted , it turned out that you have a tag followed by . that’s how I can explain what the proofreader saw.

What you need to do, is to insert only where should be a hyphen, and nothing else. This should resolve the problem.

And please work with short tags revealed.

Now I understand that you succeed to resolve the alignment issue, and that the final file is okay. do I still need to forward your communication with to proofreader?

Do you have time to spellcheck several files?

Please let me know.

I do apologize. I have uploaded them for two reasons:

to check the FTP today

and to allow you to work with them in parrallel in case of emergency

(prior to you first today letter).

Anyway sorry, it is my fault and should not do this in future not to confused you.

Please now you can work with 15u and I will delete 15s and 15t.

They will be ready soon.

You are right, I was working with tags hidden. But I changed it to “Display short tags” and I am using instead of hyphens, so there should be no more problems.

I don’t know if you should still forward my communication with to the proofreader. I sent an email to saying that it looked like the problem was fixed but the email I forwarded to you came after that. So I guess maybe he wants the proofreader to make sure everything is ok with the file. I’m sorry, I have no idea.

—————————-

So does know she needs to have them repaired? This is what I’m concerned about.

I could create “problematic files” section upload files s and t to server and let know they are there.

As to spellchecking – I don’t want you to spellcheck, but just to resolve small issues (2-3 per file). I have 5 files for that, so about 15 comments to check.

Do you think you can have time for that?

Do you think you can do that?

no problem. I have a spellchecking programm from Open Office as Windows was stupid enough not the install German in the English version. Seems to be working fine though.

Is there any sort of extra payment for that?

All the

—————————-

Let me address these issues one by one.

Glossary: I¢‚¬„¢ve no idea what the proofreader is talking about as I did not replace anything in the file. I might have translated some red marked words myself as it was not placed correctly in the French sentences and I did not know that it was forbidden.

That’s the point. You HAVE to insert all terms from the glossary BEFORE you start working. It is very important that you will do that, because it assures consistency. Therefore, when beginning the translation you will not have any “red” terms left in your target text. It is very important that you will follow instructions on that.

Here is the explanation on how to do it:

1. Add the Main Glossary to the Project (you should have it downloaded)

Go to Project – Settings – Term_Star Dictionaries Tab -Add – Choose French_Main_dictionary/German_Main_dictionary. At this point, it should be the ONLY glossary selected.

Now all terms form the glossary are colored red in the Target and Source windows.

2 Insert all terms from the Main Glossary

The Main Glossary consists numerous common terms and Proper Names, which we want to keep consistent in all files of the project. Therefore, insert all terms from it BEFORE you begin to translate.

Open your language pair file, and put the cursor in the beginning of the first Target segment. Go to Edit “Insert all terms from dictionary”.

Ctrl+S save your file.

¯§ Don’t forget to conjugate the inserted glossary terms (marked red) according to your language’s grammar.

¯§ If you don¢‚¬„¢t like a term form the Glossary, you should use it anyway, as we need all files to be consistent. But in the same time make a note about it, and send it to (PM) when you deliver the translation. Comments to glossary are later forwarded to proofreaders.

Please do that with your next file.

Hyphens: I have no troubles with hypens!! I¢‚¬„¢m not confused with the symbol!!. And I know where to place them!! (those comments are quite amasing) I don¢‚¬„¢t know what the proofreader is talking about when he said the hypens were not where they should be. I type the hyphens and then they disappear when I go to the next segment. AND IT IS THE SAME WITH THE ALREADY TRANSLATED TEXTS, NO DIFFERENCES.

You obviously do have troubles with hyphens, if they disappear when you go to next segment. Again, this problem was addressed in lot of detail in the guidelines, and it’s a pity you did not follow them.

If you have this kind of issue with hyphens, you do not use them at all. Instead, when you need to place a hyphen, you place .

From your comment I recognize one more problem – you are obviously working with hidden tags. You should be working with “Show Short tags”. They you would see that hyphens did not actually disappear, but became tags. So don’t use hyphens any more, please use and work with short tags revealed.

As per the guidelines on capitalization, I¢‚¬„¢ve noticed that it is not consistent in the glossary and the texts already translated.

Please read the new guidelines which were published today. sent a link to them in the mass mail. There is a clear explanation. You don’t need to change capitalization or old terminology in the pre-translated segments, but id a term is capitalized in the glossary, and it should not be capitalized according to your context, you should edit it.

I don’t know how to fix the hypens issue. I thought it was a known issue and about to be solved.

Do as I explained, and there will be nothing to solve. This issue was so clearly explained in guidelines.

What do you want me to do? The segments I translated are marked as Translated as the other segments. How do I recognise the one I translated? And as I’ve already said, the Capitalization and accented capitals are not consistent throughout the files and the hyphen issue is also throughout the files, unlike the proofreader said. At least on my end.

I will check what to do with the files you already delivered. For sure please read carefully the guidelines and follow then closely on your next files. All this hassle could be avoided by just doing that or by asking me in the moment you spotted the hyphens problem at the first place. I am always here to help.

—————————-

Please do not upload here your files!

The files should be sent directly to .

—————————-

told me, that you said you charge 10$/hour for such work. Is that fine?

If yes, please submit a new ticket on the new OT system (http://translationstop.com/OT), and name it-for spell checking. The OT system is much more convenient for exchanging files. Please leave me there a short message, and I will upload the files as a rar file and reply with comments – what to check in each file aside from spellchecking.

Please let me know ASAP – I am a rush to finalize as much as possible as fast as possible.

Thank you.

That¢‚¬„¢s exactly what I did and indeed I¢‚¬„¢ve noticed that some terms stayed red. But IN NO CASE I changed the French terms in the glossary even I inserted them manually.

As per the guidelines it is to be placed. So which one now? As typing instead of an hyphen is a bit of a hassle. Not even talking about how easy it is to proofread a text with all that signs!

I¢‚¬„¢m waiting for your instructions about how to fix my previous files. Thanks for your help.

I don¢‚¬„¢t want to excuse myself, but installing and working with Transit was very difficult for me (not for others maybe), as I¢‚¬„¢m used to work with much user friendly CAT tools, and also because the numerous instructions confused me.

PS and also this system of communication, I have to do it 2-3 times before it works…

No problem what so ever, just next time tell me that these are temporary files, or even add “NOT_FINAL to file name.

Now I have a problem. I am preparing files for spelling, and I noticed that I don’t have anywhere file 15s which you vetted last week. It looks like you didn’t upload it to the server. Please check it for me! I need this file very much.

Bellow you write about 15s and t, and I assume it’s a typo and you meant 17s and 17t, is that right? I am trying to mind my hand and legs in all these files.

Please let me know ASAP.

I’m translating a file and notice that my finger goes automatically to the hypen key if I don’t concentrate enough on it. So if automatically I type the hyphen, when I realize it or when I proofread the file I cannot remove the tag anymore. And the problem is still there.

What’s the solution for that?

This issue is becoming a real headache for me, even if the proofreader thinks it’s just a question of following instructions.

—————————-

Quick question. Should all translated files be uploaded here? Or do I continue to send them to ?

Pleased to contact you again. Thanks for your letters. Nice that you have found the lost file. Yes, you are right about typo. Sorry I was keen to contact you ASAP and did not checked properly what I sent.

Please find below next file 17s. Please looked it through. Im am not sure about some spacing matters. Unfortunately, I am not so experiened so far. The last file would be ready in about 40 minutes.

Sorry for delay. But these files from folder 17 differ from those I have already vetted.

I found it! It was uploaded here, I’m sorry.
