After reading the last email sent by , should I understand that the last message that you sent me a few days ago was “an approach” to work on this second project? Otherwise, I would be very surprised to be excluded considering that I haven’t ever received a bad feedback on my translation worke¦
I don’t quite remember the content of the email, since there were a lot of people I contacted for various reasons.
However, you are not blacklisted, if that’s what you are asking.
The French BoI project is delayed since (lead translator) moved to another country. We have tried to work around him and got as far as having 5 files translated, but finally hit a bottleneck where we need his expertise to finalise the glossary. We need the glossary so common terms are translated the same way throughout the whole project.
has promised to set aside some time this week to work on the glossary. I hope it can get done by the end of the week, so we can start catching up.
So that’s what’s going on right now.
—————————-
Thanks, “black-listed / not black-listed” was indeed my question.
Thank you again for your time and the general update on the project.

. How are you doing with your half of Items_reduced?
Sorry if this message is repeated, the internal message system show an error each time I send, so I resend it to be sure that you have it, sorry if you have several copies of the same message.
I want first to sums the story so that you can judge by yourself, first I received a message from you where you say that I¢‚¬„¢ll be assigned a file of 18000 words or something like this, the same day I received instructions from with name of the file, I downloaded the file and found that it¢‚¬„¢s more than 3000 words so I thought that you decided to send a bigger file and that’s all, no one at any moment said about translating half of the file, it’s only after I read your last message that I went on the spreadsheet and find out that there¢‚¬„¢s a small note in the very lower part of the page about which segments to translatee¦ I can understand that such things happens on a project of that volume, so it¢‚¬„¢s really ok for this time, just because we¢‚¬„¢re going to work for a long moment together I would like if the instructions about such cases would be more precise a bit, it’s normal that such misunderstandings happens but it cost me a lot of time and energy (cause I’m almost done with the complete file)..
I’ll copy the segments on Transit (because I work on Word first) and I¢‚¬„¢ll send the file during the day, please prepare for me if possible another file meanwhile. Respectfully

Sorry if this message is repeated, the internal message system show an error each time I send, so I resend it to be sure that you have it, sorry if you have several copies of the same message.
Feel free to use OT. The CS has a very short time-out period, maybe 10 minutes (never actually timed it) and very often by the time you finish typing a reply the system already timed you out from inactivity. I usually made sure to reload the main page and re-login when necessary before I click the send button.
I am sorry that you spent all that time, but I checked the message in the OT and it mentioned both before and after the file which segments you were to translate.
http://www.translationstop.com/OT//admin/admin_ticket.php?track=75U7ZUJ9RG&Refresh=84608
I am as eager as you are in avoiding this sort of confusion in the future. If you have some suggestion on how to make myself clearer in the future, please let me know. I thought I was pretty clear already, but this very situation shows that I wasn’t.
I’ll copy the segments on Transit (because I work on Word first) and I¢‚¬„¢ll send the file during the day, please prepare for me if possible another file meanwhile. Ouch. Okay, I got to admit that we hit a snag there. It isn’t that we don’t have the files. But just moved to another country and since he’s the lead translator responsible for the glossary, that got delayed, which in turn delayed everything else.
has promised to get the glossary proofed this week, at which point we’ll be able to continue. I don’t think it will be done today or tomorrow, but I’m really hoping for Friday.
—————————-
Thank you for your great effort! I think many things you mentioned are crucial for the quality and consisteny of the files!
I’ll be working on the 3 rep file for the next couple of hours and will update the glossary accordingly.
I’ll let you know about any processed changes of the glossary as soon as I have finished the whole file.

I checked again the OT and I find out that indeed the number of segments were clearly indicated, the mistake that happened and made me translated the whole document instead of translating just the half of it is totally mine, your instructions and ones were totally clear, it’s me who missed this detail in the OT.
Don’t change please anything in the way you give instructions cause it’s totally clear and understandable, I’m sorry that made you lose your time and energy for a mistake that I’ve done myself, I’ll do everything that such thing don’t happen again, sorry for disturbing you that way.
I’ll send the file during the day
sorry once again for this story.

I do not see repetitions (extracts) for such files.
Please confirm if you proofread repetitions for files

thank you for the reply.
Here is a thought that emerged from my discussion with yesterday:
Do you think it would be better to use a Google spreadsheet or .xls files for the translators to send you their comments on dictionary terms?
offered to set us up with what we need in this respect when I discussed this with him. But I am not sure if that would be better: I find that the Google spreadsheet is slow, and it may be hard for you to keep track of comments in an .xls file, and easier just to process a list.
On the other hand, maybe some processes could be automated in an .xls list (like re-importing changed entries into Transit), but I am not sure how all this works, so this is just a thought.

Hello_B
Well that would be great if we had any idea that the files were for following:
—————————-
Please check on the following:
Video_G_French 0,00
-Is it really should be 0,00?
translation 6,50
-can you please precise more?
More spellcheck 2,00
-we are trying to range expenditures by the files, so if you could give more detailed information, that would be great.
Thank you!

There’s some terms I would like to add to the dictionary but I don’t know which file to use for this, the only add glossary I have is the one of the ancient project, please let me know asap.
—————————-
I just sent you a message but don’t think it went through so here it is again:
sent me some instructions on how to get files assigned and change settings a few days ago:
***One way you can help is by the subject of your OT, such as “Available to translate”. Also, if you make sure your priority is set to “low”, it creates a green flag and shows that you are available (what it means to us in OT). We can also change all this on our end. In any case, it will take me a bit of time to hack into the system and make it easier to manage between the three of us. Until then please be patient and help us with file assignment.***
The problem is that I don’t know how to set my priority to ‘low’, etc.
I’m definitely available to translate about 3,000 words a day or 18,000 words a week during the next couple of months.
Please let me know how I can get new files assigned.
Thanks!
—————————-
I just wanted to quickly confirm that I’m working on it. I thought Glossary 02 would be ready yesterday evening but the final part is harder than I expected, should be done byght for good this time.
With many thanks
Allright, I made some temporary arrangements so I will be fully available until the end of the week.
I will catch up on my assignments and will have some limited availability next week instead, hopefully not for long.
Thank you.
Please take care of all of the proofreading except for 02, which you are translating. Start with 03 first. That’s the one that’s been backlogged the longest.

Is it a term in Items_reduced?
Everything in Items_reduced will go into the glossary. Now, Transit is not smart enough to recognize partials, so it can’t derive “Land of the Dead” from “Key to the Land of the Dead”. But a lot of those other terms are in other files which we will include to the glossary.
Also, I don’t know how to do an add glossary yet, especially without an actual glossary to begin with.
If the new terms aren’t in Items_reduced already, perhaps send me an excel file for now.
—————————-
If all the terms in Item_reducedF will be added to glossary so it’s ok, all the terms I wanted to add to glossary are in this file.
I already uploaded the file, I’ll leave a comment in the ticket that it’s done so that or you can send me another file.
Thanks for your quick respond.

Okay, I’ll be waiting.
I’m also changing my mind about having you proof everything. If I insist on that you won’t have time to finish moving in. Not to mention other people will be left idle for days.
So for now, once you translating 02, proof these files in order:
03_glossary
Names…
04_glossary
will proof 05_glossary and your 02_glossary.
I will assign the other files on Friday once we have a better idea on how busy you are. We still prefer you, but we don’t want to overload you either.

I’ll carry on and will keep you informed of my situation over here so that you can organize things as you see fit.

As for the above translation, this is the email I sent some minutes ago:
During proofreading I’ve come across inconsistencies concerning the very similar terms
Amulet
Charm
Talisman
And I was wondering whether I can take it for granted that these terms really occur in the Game and not result from previous translation mistakes (translation into English).
I have already checked the BOI website but could not find any useful information. Can you think of a way to find out about this?
Maybe you have an answer.

Having looked at the Excel files the game really does use these three terms. If I recall correctly, in dialogue there terms are pretty much interchangeable, but as far as item names goes, equipments are usually Amulet, sometimes Charm, but never Talisman. Quest items and single-use items could be anything though.
We do not have a fluent Chinese speaker in our team to check the original game and see whether the inconsistencies are in the original Chinese or a translation error.
I have already checked the BOI website but could not find any useful information. Can you think of a way to find out about this?
Those three words are synonyms, referring to a small object worn/kept for its magical/spiritual (protective) quality. I believe that as long as we refer to an object consistently, we can get away with any single one of them. E.g., we can have an Amulet of Thor and a Spirit Charm, but not an Amulet of Thor and a Charm of Thor at the same time.
Have you checked the BoI Items list Excel file?
—————————-
Ok, thank you for this elaborate answer. So far I have used 3 German synonyms to deal with this – the synonym for charm most frequenly / talisman and amulet synonyms rather seldom.
So I think this should do.

This page in perticular has helped me a lot with the translation so it might be useful to others as well.
Once we gather a lot of these we can probably update the project page on the website.

Proofreading Report ¢‚¬œ By 13399
File proofread: JD_100201_Localize_1b
Nature of assigment: Polish up the Proper Names files in line with the Main Glossary and the Instructions.
Assignment completed as stated, updating the terms, and removing elements from the previous outdated translation memory and unnecessary capital letters.
Time spent on the file: 8 hours
Hourly rate: $12
Spell-checking and proofreading on Files 15o, 15n, 18l, and completion of spell-checking on File 18i:
Quality Report:
1b had mostly to do with proper names and the main issue was to update the translation, so it was not quite challenging as such.
However, from the last four (4) files, only 18i was already quite satisfactory in terms of quality, and all we did was to complete the spell-checking and solve the issues already defined by PM. 150, 15n, and 18l had a lot of spell-checking and proofreading work. Apart from a good amount of glossary terms consistently misspelled some of the segments still had considerable untranslated (English) stuff, which we translated and proofread within the set deadlines, even though we still felt the necessity of a last proofreading touch, particularly on 15n, by the time we had to upload files for time constraints.
All four (4) files completed in 13 hours
Hourly rate: $12
TOTAL: 8 X 12 + 13X 12 = 96 + 156 = $252 for five files proofread.
With our compliments.
—————————-
Thank you
We got you report.
—————————-
To make sure I am not mistaken this time, I would like to ask you how to capitalize some of these segments.
‘Additional function’ is to be translated: ‘Fonction Supplementaire’ or ‘Fonction supplementaire’?
‘Poison Resistance’ is to be translated: ‘Resistance au poison’ or Resistance Au Poison’? (Do words like ‘de’, ‘au’, ‘de la’ take capital letters too, as the message says every ‘word’ or should only the ‘nouns’ take them?)
These are the kind of segments that I am finding hard to decide whether there are part of the ‘action, item, name, place’ group that requires capital letters to every word.
Why is the capitalization different in ‘Change Fire Attack Rate’ and in ‘Change weapon attribute’? I would have thought these segments were both actions and would therefore need capital letters to each word.
There is also ‘Status resistance Rate’. Why doesn’t resistance take a capital letter, and does it still take one in French?
Should I assume that if the English word doesn’t have a capital letter, then the French translation shouldn’t either?
I am sorry to bother you again with those capitalization issues but I am trying my best to do this job right.
—————————-
I just uploaded Glossary02. Will start with the proofreading tomorrow, things should move a lot quicker from there.
With many thanks
—————————-
Just keep it simple and don’t overthink it because of the random guidelines (I am about to contact about this).
*** “Additional function” – “Fonction supplementaire”
***For all resistances, we use a standardized terminology similar to the previous project’s. Here is a bunch of them, just off the top of my head:
Res. Poison
Res. Lenteur (Slow)
Res. Etourdir (Stun)
Res. Sommeil (Sleep)
Res. Gel (Freeze)
Res. Affaiblir (Weaken)
Just follow this pattern (without the terms in brackets of course) and you should be fine.
You can use “Resistance” instead of “Res.” if you have enough room but don’t bother with articles (Resistance au/de/a /etc.) it’s best to keep it simple so everyone can remember it.
***Terms are capitalized differently because the quality isn’t that great overall. If you worked on Jade Dynasty, surely you must know what I mean about the source text quality.
In these instances, just follow your guts and check the surrounding segments to figure out the best approach.
***No, not ALL words should take caps. Just capitalize the important words, ie. not the articles. We are already mocking the French language rules by accepting the client’s request to capitalize random nouns, it’s best not to push it too far.
Anyways, just try to keep the whole thing consistent, you don’t have to mirror the English text blindly if you notice an obvious variation, may it be the capital letters or a glossary issue.
Don’t worry, I will proofread one of your file soon and I will make sure to inform you if something’s not right. In the meantime, just trust your judgement and I’m sure you will be fine.
With many thanks
—————————-
Well? Where’s the half of Items_reduced? You said it’s almost done yesterday.
Anyway, what’s your average speed these days? It seems you’re quite busy with either other projects or personal stuff and I’m trying to figure out how many words I can expect out of you for the next month.

Sorry for the delay. I am out of the office some days so I can‚’t check my files but I remember it were about 3 hours time for spellchecking.

Right now the glossary is being translated. Once it’s done – it will be imported into the files and the main work will begin. You can register a ticket in Z_Get category on OT, title it – French, Available to translate, and set priority to low (it will show a green flag which means “available” to us). When is assigning files he will see that.
—————————-
the file is now on the server.
glossary translation takes much longer than normal translation, as I’m sure you understand.
I told I had a 10,000 words/week capacity starting next week for June and July.

The glossary was updated very early this morning. You should find it in the /Glossary directory. Notice that the date on the glossary is now the 27.

I heard from that there were problems in some of my files and I will have to be able to solve these before working on the next project.
So tell me what to do or if you already have further information, because I would like to know what the problem is and solve it quickly.
Thank you.
