Please, upload the files one by one as you complete translation and update us.
Let me know when you think you can get the files you assigned done.

———————-

* what are the procedures if you are not certain of your translation?
Uncertain: I translate it, marke it as Translated and put a + sign at the end of the segment
No idea about translation: I leave it untranslated and put a + sing at the end of the term, write a separate note and upload it later together with the file

* how do we deal with hyphens when translating?
Do not use them at all in the translation. Replace them by °°° instead.

* how do you attach a glossary to a project and transfer the terms into your translation?
I Receive/Import glossary file into Transit and than choose Project > Settings > Termstar tab to attach it to a project. The matching terms in the dictionary window will be marked red. In the translation window I put the cursor to the term marked red in the dictionary window and press ALT + T to replace the word in the translation window with the term from the dictionary.

* how do you mark a segment as Translated and what is the shortcut key to transfer the text from the fuzzy window? (ALT 2 jumps without transferring the contents.)
Pres ALT+INS to mark a segment as Translated. Press ALT+ENTER to transfer the text from the fuzzy window into the target text.

* what is the rule for quotation marks?
Only use quotation marks if they are featured in the source text segment.

* how do you deal with Chinese characters when you get to them?
I won’t translate them and leave those segments as Untranslated. If Chinese and English is mixed, I will only translate the English part.

Here are the answers to the questions Karel sent me:

– what are the procedures if you are not certain of your translation?

If I am not certain of a translation, I translate it and mark it as Translated but in addition I put a + sign at the end of the segment. If I do not know what the term should be translated into, I leave it untranslated and put a + sign at the end of the term. Then in a separate note I write what I am not sure of and where to find it and then upload it together with the file.

– how do we deal with hyphens when translating?

I do not use hyphens at all, but replace them by
°°° in the translated file and in the glossary. A macro should be created for °°° in order to not type it each time.

– how do you attach a glossary to a project and transfer the terms into your translation?

First I receive the latest glossary pxf file/project. Once I imported the updated dictionary, I can close the project and open my assigned project and then attach my new and updated glossary to that project.

In order transfer terms from the glossary into my translation I open my first language pair and then go to Edit > Insert All Terms from Dictionary. All terms within the text which are found in the glossary will be marked red. Once I insert terms they should be visible in the bottom, translation window.

– how do you mark a segment as Translated and what is the shortcut key to transfer the text from the fuzzy window? (ALT 2 jumps without transferring the contents.)

I go to View -> Segment Filter -> “Segment attribute filter” tab. I tick “Edited by” checkbox and choose “User” and “Fuzzy match (user)” from the selection list. Then I click the “Apply filter” button. Now Transit will display the segments I translated only.
To transfer the text from the fuzzy window I press ALT ENTER for the first segment. Once I translated the first segment I press ALT INS to mark it as Translated and to be taken to the next Untranslated segment.

– what is the rule for quotation marks?
Quotation marks should be avoided and only be used if I see them in the English source for the respective segments. In other places it complictates the software.

– how do you deal with Chinese characters when you get to them?
Untranslated Chinese segments should not be marked as translated. If I find English and Chinese mixed together I have to translate the English part.If there is a Chinese segment starting with N/A I skip it.

He tried to add people to his Boxbe, but either way, Boxbe held mail is stored in a
particular folder and he refers to it from time to time, so the letters do get through.

My schedule seems quite easy, so if there is still something to assign, I can take another 3000 words until Monday.

———————-

unfortunately when I try to receive the glossary (Video.German_MAin)… it takes forever!

2% after more than 30min!

Next step would be to associate this file to the project…

The file for translation can be opened… like the test translation files I played with before. But the glossary is giving me problems…

In the end I will stop the download if it does not work.

Hope you can help.

Ciao

In order to exchange all outdated terms of the pretranslation I did a reset of these terms so that the source text appeared in the target segments. This allowed me to us “insert all terms from dictionary” function which saved much time in contrast to edit all manually. After that I checked them all and found an error in the glossary that I´ve corrected in the text:
Achilles’s Shoulder = Achilles’ Schulter (NOT Achilles’ Schild)
Achilles’s Shield = Achilles’ Schild (NOT Achilles’ Schulter)

I´ve marked all segments as translated and now I checked them again. My Transit doesn´t shows any untranslated segments. So if your Transit says otherwise, just mark them as translated.
Maybe Transit acts somehow strange, so I´ve uploaded it again(02_194_DEU__proofed_2.TXF).
