(if this is your name)
I’ve seen the English word “Mystic” kept as it is in the French translation when working on file 17m, however it is not French. Should this be corrected or has it been already thought trough and decided this was the way forward?
Thanks

No, I did not receive any messages from you, so I guess it didn’t get posted.
Let me see if I understand correctly – you typed a hyphen as part of your translation and when you ALT INS the segment it changed to Tag? Or was there a hyphen before that you don’t need? And if this is true, then was this hyphen appearing as a tag, or it got converted when you tried to delete it?
There had been a section on hyphens in the new instructions. Did you read it? It’s right here: http://001yourtranslationservice.com/translations/projects/2010/10001/video-game-translation_new-instructions.html
Please let me know.
Hello again
I‚´m not sure if you have received my first message. Due to my Firefox browser settings it might haven‚´t been sent.
As I translated the first segments, I inserted a hyphen which automatically changed into a TAG. So I tried to re-insert that hyphen which just resulted in a doubled hyphen. I really read the instructions carefully but now I cannot delete the second hyphen. Now I know that a tag could also mean a hyphen as I saw when I changed the view option in Transit.
Sometimes there is a hyphen in English when in German there there is no need for it.
How can I delete a hyphen that has changed to a tag?
Thank you in advance

Yes, is m name.
Are you proofreading file 17m or translating it?
I checked the dictionary I have, and in all terms with “Mystic” it had been translated as “mystique”, for example “Mystic Armor” is “Armure mystique”. Is it same in your dictionary? Is it similar to the case we are speaking about? Generally I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be translated.

Thanks for your speedy response. I am translating the file 17m and came across “Titre Mystic des Sept Nuits”. This was already translated, so I won’t change it, but it might need a follow-up (or maybe you prefer I ignore everything like this, as I am not proofreader and this becomes only a spam for you…)
In the same file, the quotes “abc” have been used instead of . I thought this was now clarified and we would use the official French symbol.

Sorry for sending you another email, but I only wondered if you have any preference on how to communicate (subjects, titles of the messages, quick short messages more often or only one bigger every week, etc.)
Concerning all the comments I’ve sent previously to along with the translated files, I’ve never had any feedback. So I don’t know if this was useful, too detailed, not detailed enough, only stupid comments not to be considered, etc. Have you visibility on those? As I spend quite a bit of time to write those, I would better stop if this is not used.
And as I already said to and, I am more than willing to improve the way I translate if there is anything I should do differently, but without feedback…
Thanks

As you didn‚´t receive my first message, I have to say HELLO again! I‚´m a new translator for German.
All hyphens (typed or pasted by a hotkey) change to a tag when I do ALT+INS. When I go to View Display/Hide Attributes and activate “display full tag”, they appear as hyphens, too. I hope that is ok.
Only problem left is when I got an english term like “ring-shaped” displayed in my target window in Transit, the hyphen within is a tag. In the german translation I don‚´t need a hyphen and I cannot delete it. What can I do?
There are some other issues I like to know:
What is the exact deadline for returning the file (5000+ words) to ?
Is anybody using an Instant Messenger like Skype, MSN or ICQ among the translators?
told me to send you “sample of several segments” of source/target text. Should I just paste them here and how many segments should I send you and when?
thank you in advance

So you mean that this had been pre-translated? I think I will forward your question to lead translator. If there are mistakes, we better spot them now than later.
I hadn’t received any info about “abc” – just don’t know what you are talking about. Can you refer me to the discussion? If you do so, I will try to check.

I am here to help you. So write me as often as you need, may-be accumulate 2-3 subjects in one message, but if something is urgent, just press the button and I will try to check it for you. It’s nice when in the title you state the main issue.
I prefer when the problems are explained explicitly, like for a total dummy for two reasons – I don’t speak French, so you will need to explain well the issue, maybe with examples, and second – because it’s my first week in the project. So the more explicit your are, the better is chance that I will understand what’s the problem from the first message.
Can you send me the comments again? May-be I have them and they are in use, but integrated to other documents.

I’m a new PM 🙂 So it can take me a bit longer to find solutions sometimes, but i will try my best.

Can you please paste here these hyphens how they look when you activate “display full tag”? I am not sure what do you mean saying they are a tag and hyphen in the same time.

Please paste here also this one (as you normally see it and as it is with “display full tag”), I’ll take a look.
What is the exact deadline for returning the file (5000+ words) to ?
Please check your instructions, isn’t it there? If not, I’ll ask.
Is anybody using an Instant Messenger like Skype, MSN or ICQ among the translators?
No, only this system and the forum.

Send me about 100 words. Please check if you can upload files in the “Files” section. If not, please paste into message.

I can confirm that all my files respect the French ponctuation standard, meaning to use a space between all relevant punctuations.
Talking about punctuation, and related to quotation marks, which might also be the ” , they should normally be changed into
‚» or ‚« with a space separating them from the word. However, it is more and more common to use the double quote ” even in France (for exemple, I do not use ‚» or ‚« myself any longer). So, a little confusion here…?

please ignore if you are working on the German part of this project.
An issue has been arising:
Hmm, about the space, I did a little research, and I discovered that European and American standards are not the same. So since I guess your current proofreader doesn’t use space before quotation mark, it means he is not french. Europeans use a space before, but not Americans… You’ll have to tell me which standard you prefer. I would guess it’s the European one.
So I guess this is before : or ! or ? etc. The customer wants EUROPEAN French.

So welcome to this project!!! 🙂 I hope that this first week has been good!
Here below is a copy of what I sent first to , then to (after asked me to do so). I hope it will be useful. If not, please advise. I didn’t copy the comments on files 5, as I don’t think it would be very beneficial to dig too much in history…

Please find here below all my comments on the files I have previously sent to (15 j. k. l. m. g. h.). Hope this helps and have a good reading.
Please don’t hesitate to come back to me would you have any questions or comments.

Please find the translation of the 15j file here attached. Please confirm reception.
Could you please pass those comments to your proofreader? Hope this helps.
The following have not been translated, as I think they are part of the Names translations (only examples which I found more relevant to put here):
Array of the Six Periods
Sword Regenesis
Regenesis Sword
Sunstream City
Fuzzy matches translations I’m not very happy with:
Array = Jet ; sometimes very strange, I would probably prefer “rayonnement” instead
I would not have translated Segment the way it has been translated, as I think he wants Anan to go with him, and not to give him lands… To be checked in context.
Feedback welcome. I’m going to 15k now…

As instructed, the followings have not been translated, as I think they are part of the Names translations (only examples which I found more relevant to put here):
Holyguard ritual or Holy Guard ritual (two spellings used!)
essence of Knowu
Devine Tales
Five Sacred Orders
Five Tomes
Burning Liquor
I think that “Chief Balo” is missing in segment
I saw both battle of Jadeon Mountain and Mount Jadeon, so the french translation is also different. I would have thought it would be the same name…
I’ve always used .hhh. instead of the hyphen
I’ve used a few + .
Feedback welcome. I’m going to 15l now…

I’ve introduced quite a number of terms into the dictionary, I hope that I didn’t mess too much around!
I did not translate all the “Names Coupon” from Segment onwards
I believe that “thank” is missing in segment : I didn’t get a chance to properly her.
I’ve always used .hhh. instead of the hyphen
I’ve used a few + .
Feedback welcome. I’m going to 15m now…

Could you please passe the following comments to your proofreader:
Est-ce la Cloche de Bilu des Lupin ? . I think it should be Est-ce la Cloche de Lupin de Bilu ? I don’t want to change another translator’s work if I’m not absolutely sure.
I have also corrected a few spelling mistakes from other translators, but I don’t know though how this would work with the translation memory.
Exemples of not translated Names:
Five Sacred Orders
five tomes
Truth of Orders
Incense Valley
etc.
I’ve used a few +, but not that much.
