French Project of Glossary Terms

Allright, so aked me to figure out a strategy to deal with the capitalization issues.

Do you know where I could download the most up to date project files? I need to take an overview of the project to see how bad (how good hopefully 😉 ) is the capitalization.

Many thanks in advance

On the translators server, in FTP folder you will find:

jd_vetted_merged.zip – one file containing merged most of the recently vetted files

JD_rescueGS.rar – Excel GS for JD

And the rest of the files I guess you have – they were not changed.

Major still missing is sections 1-6, because they are still in treatment.

Though section 1 is uploaded on Proofreading upload system, and if you want to check it so it’s there.

Is this sufficient for your purpose?

Please let me know.

—————————-

Perfect, thank you very much.

—————————-

Did you receive my message on OT?

Please let me know.

—————————-

Are you available? We need proofreader to help.

Please let me know.

—————————-

yes I have received the information, I was testing the macro earlier which doesn’t work but my boyfriend can fix it, however we need to put our son to bed before we can resume work, as it is his time now 🙂

I’ll get back to you laterght on with my comments if I have any, currently I am testing against a ‘dummy’ file. I will be available to do the work tomorrow in any case, provided everything works correctly.

So if I don’t talk to yought, I will nevertheless let you know if I can process the files.

—————————-

I am not available now, because while I was waiting for news from you I had jobs coming in I could not refuse. I will be busy tomorrow too. Really sorry for that, I would have liked to help.

.

—————————-

I perfectly understand.

—————————-

There is no need to fix and adapt the formula, because in the file, the link to which I sent you by OT, the formula is already installed and works. I will update additional instructions for adjusting it on OT (what can I do, CS all the time logs me out).

—————————-

Hello

Hope you are fine. I am, PM for Kenax.

I have a small question regarding file 02_part_165, you did proofread for. So far, so good, but

there is one, same issue for the several lines:

Original: [Star Shards] now!

Target: [Stern-Scherben] !

So, I am wondering about translation for “now”.

If you could please provide me with full translation and I will just past it into the cells.

And could you please start a new ticket with subject “Vetting” when you reply?

Thank you!

—————————-

welcome!

This supposed problem comes from the segmentation in Transit.

source segments:

The hero

has

[Star Shards]

now!

target segments:

Der Held

hat jetzt

[Stern Scherben]

!

Due to the different syntax in German the sentence is structured differently.

If you put the segments together you get

source sentence: The hero has [Star Shards] now!

target sentence: Der Held hat jetzt [Stern Scherben] !

This is correct as it is. Problems may come from the unification of the segments into the excel format.

—————————-

Thank you!

—————————-

I am, PM for Kenax.

I am vetting the file 3b for JD now and I have doubts, if the line 705 got translated.

The full content of the cell is :

&GM DMG Add-on

Same is in the target.

Can you please let me know whether it should be translated or no. Thank you!

—————————-

I know the answer about 705 line for 3b already.

Thank you!

—————————-

Hello!

I can’t logon neither to the OT system not the “new centralised” site. I get errors on end.

I’m available, but the communication problem hasn’t been solved sufficiently since JD, I’m afraid.

This is the umpteenth time I’m giving it a try to get through to you. (-;

Cheers

—————————-

!

Good to hear from you, I was worried where you are:)

Sorry for inconveniences, works hard the everything to be perfect. I just forwarded your letter to him, so that he could help. I just put you into “Available” status, but I can say that we are finishing JD today, so can’t guaranty if there any assignments for today.

—————————-

Hi!

All fine now!

No need to assign files today, though. It’s football time!

Thanks

—————————-

Hi !

All fine now, but my direct mails to you are blocked by Boxbe.

Cheers

—————————-

told me you have questions regarding the macro. Please direct them to me nd I’ll try to help you.

Could you also let me know what you ahve done so far?

JM

—————————-

To answer your questions: I think it is safer to spell “coeur”

Correct the spelling errors in your glossary, do not introduce them in the files. Correct them in the files if necessary.

Please keep track of inconsistencies/spelling errors/mistranslations found in the glossary and send the list to.

If some cells exceed the 31-character, please shorten them, use your logic to see what makes sense given the number of characters you have to get rid of. It does not matter if they do not match the glossary.

Did you inform the PM that there were unresolved issues with 5a and 5b?

JM

—————————-

Could you let me know what you have done so far?

There are spelling errors in the glossary, please make sure not to introduce them in the files.

Let me know if you have questions.

JM

—————————-

What I have done so far?

Today I have done 6a and I am currently working on 6b.

If you’re asking about the files I have done since the beginning of JD’s improvement of files, here are all the files I have proofread so far:

Let me know if you need any more information.

—————————-

Do you have a list of the cels yu had trouble with?

I can try to take a look.

JM

—————————-

Sorry, that was not vey clear. I was asking about section 6. How is everything going? I heard you managed to use the macro. Do you have questions regarding its use?

JM

—————————-

Progress is rather slow as there are quite a lot of ‘false’ (especially in 6a, not as bad in 6b so far). Apart from that everything is ok.

I might contact you again when I need to do the abbreviations later on.

—————————-

Thank you for letting me know.

I am just trying to keep track of who is doing what.

DO you think you can meet the dedline. I just have one file left to proof. So after that, I will try to help and you.

Feel free to ask questions.

JM

—————————-

I have finished file 6b but there are a lot of terms that are longer than 31 characters.

Do you want me to abbreviate them?

I can’t make the macro work anymore, the one that shows the number of characters in a cell. I did do ctrl+q, though, and that worked: there are several yellow cells.

What do you want me to do?

—————————-

Just to let that I have finally managed to make the 31 char. macro work again.

—————————-

Thank you for checking.

You have to shorten the item cells – not the text cells – to meet the 31-character restriction. Please use your logic when doing so, the gamers should still be able to know which item it is.

I know it’s tough, but you can check how similar words were shortened on your files.

If you are stuck, send me examples and I’ll help you.

Regarding the character restriction macro, it will not work when the other formula is active. You will need to clear the column where you pasted the formula before you use the other macro and then it should work.

Let me know how it goes and do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

JM

—————————-

We are farming out the files.

If you want some please create a ticket (available to translate) in here:

http://translationstop.com/OT/

Please tell us how many words you can do by next Monday.

Thank you!

—————————-

Hi!

Will let you know how many words I can take for this week tomorrow.

Thanks

—————————-

over the weekend, I assessed some translators for (total 4 hours) and he told me to include this in my “hour reports”.

I was wondering who or where I should report this to, or is there another system now to upload reports?

So far, for this project, I have only posted my proofreading hours in the OT and has updated the accounting spreadsheet accordingly. Is that enough for proofreading hours?

I’m sorry if I missed any instructions — I hope you can help me about how to report my hours in the future. I’m a bit confused by the different systems and responsibilities.

—————————-

Ok, apparently there was a misunderstanding with , basically the macro should have been applied only once with “space” only, the second time with dot+space shoudn’t have been done.

Is there any chance that you still have a backup of the project file after using the macro ONCE (before running it again with dot+space)?

Many thanks in advance

—————————-

So far it is all I know 🙂

We do really keep tracking hours from OT, but

your personal hour’s report should be just to secure

inconsistency.

I would be happy if we had just upload system for

record, so maybe thinks so too and such a rule will appear in the nearest time.

—————————-

Is this file what you are looking for then?

This is the file after the macro has been ran once.

http://translationstop.com/files/French-JD/For_Alex.zi

—————————-

I found that the script wasn’t running correctly. I think set it up wrong and it’s running on the English side and is stripping all the spaces out of it without touching the French side.

Is that the case on your copy?

—————————-

I don’t know the technical details so I will just run through everything and hopefully you’ll find the info you need somewhere in there.

### 1 ###

Last friday I uploaded a file called Capsfix.zip. It is a French-French glossary list supposed to fix the larger capitalization issues.

Every single term in the left column should be searched through the entire project file and replaced by the corresponding term in the right column.

Once this first list has been applied, all the glossary terms in the project file should have their first letter capitalized and the proper names should be correctly capitalized as well no matter what their position is in a sentence.

### 2 ###

Now, to fix the glossary terms that were inserted in the middle of sentences (and shouldn’t be capitalized) I prepared and uploaded a second list today called “ultimidcaps” (or something like that).

This is another French-French list based on the results on the first list.

By that I mean the left column of this list is basically the right column of the first list. So if the first list hasn’t been applied, the second one is useless. I hope this is clear.

In order to work, this list has to be applied just like the first one, except that all the terms are preceded by a space. This is to correct the terms that should not have had their first letter capitalized in the middle of sentences. These terms should NOT follow a dot. The terms following a dot should be capitalized.

#######”

That’s how it should have been applied. I hope you will find what you need in there, please let me know if you need additional information or if the backup list I am using at the moment is void.

I need to work with 2 other proofers on the project file so I important to know if the file I’m using is the most “fixed” one.

—————————-

Sorry, yes, absolutely, all the english terms have been stripped of all spaces. Good catch.

—————————-

Okay, the file I linked for you earlier? Don’t use that. That has the script ran wrong. If you see it you’ll see that all the spaces have been stripped from the English side.

I’m rerunning the script, hopefully this time correctly.

—————————-

Ok, I will stand by. Several list have been uploaded again and again, please make sure to use the right ones.

Here are the links to both lists in case you need to start from Friday’s project file again.

First caps fix:

Second caps fix:

—————————-

I forgot to ask, is this the script that takes 2 hours to run? If it is I’m just going to take a break and eat something.

Please let me know so I don’t wait idly for nothing.

We very much need your respectful advice

Please help us ASAP so soft “+” issues.

Please have a look:

Behemoth Soul Shard

—————————-

Yeah, it the one that takes a long time to run. go get some food. I’ll let you know when it’s done, but it ain’t gonna be soon.

We are very much in need to get your Ultimate Glossary for JD.

We need it to use look-up formula to check on terms.

Could you please provide us with it ASAP.

Many thanks

—————————-

Let me know when you’re back.

I want to discuss the s&r script with you.

—————————-

Yes, I’m here, what’s going on? says she needs the glossary?

—————————-

Yes, needs the glossary. But separate from that I need to discuss the script with you.

You said you don’t want the script run the second time with a Terms.xls that includes a period.

This is, however, the file wants to use with the script after the current run (right now it’s running a search & replace with a file that I think is based on UltiMidCapsFixed.xls)

http://translationstop.com/files/FTP/18.06French_JD_Rescue_Finalizing/Terms_after_sentences.xls

As you can see, after a period, the first letter in _after_sentences_ is capitalized.

is worried that right now the decapitalising macro will create a decapitalised sentence. That is, if a sentence starts with a term from UltiMidCaps, that sentence won’t start with a capital letter.

That’s why he wants to run it the second time using the _after_sentences_ file.

However, I’ve pointed out that running the script the second time will causes abbreviation to have wrong capitalization. E.g. rec. star shard (just a fictional example) would have been capitalized as rec. Star shard or possibly Rec. Star shard.

So there’s two conflicting goals here and we need to find a compromise that meet both goals or else decide which one to sacrifice.

We are very much in need to get your Ultimate Glossary for JD.

We need it to use look-up formula to check on terms.

Could you please provide us with it ASAP.

—————————-

What exactly do you need? I have already sent the links towards the correct versions of the 2 lists to, do you need a different document?

Please clarify exactly what you’re looking for so as to avoid misunderstandings.

—————————-

🙂 I guess we all a bit worn out with deadline

sent me to you to get Glossary (he might does not remember where it is)

I need the most fresh version of it, so that we could check terms in the files.

Thank you!

—————————-

The script should not be ran a second time with a dot.

Yes, there are some cells that contain several sentences BUT the glossary contains mostly item names, not the entire French language dictionary.

Therefore it is unlikely that there would be a cell containing several sentences where one of these sentences would START with an item name. It just doesn’t make sense or the chance of this happening is about 1 in a million.

Even if this does happen, the damage caused by the abbreviations won’t be worth the 1 actual repair that it will do.

Don’t run it with a dot, that’s the whole point.

—————————-

I don’t understand, why would you be replacing words in the file since we haven’t finished applying the script on the project file yet ? It doesn’t make sense to me.

The capitalization fixes we are discussing whether or not to apply at the moment are based on certain specific spellings, if we modify things before applying these fixes we risk messing with the consistency further.

Please let me know if I’m missing something, I just want to avoid further issues.

—————————-

Please pay attention, that this is for JD, not for BOI 🙂

Maybe this will clarify things a bit.

Thank you!

—————————-

please tell where to find the latest glossary file that you are using. Right now the latest I can find is

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/uploadedfiles_001/PR/001_JD.repair/Fixed_Glossary.zip

But I don’t know if that’s the latest.

Yes, the script has not finished running, but that isn’t the issue. I want to have both the formula and the glossary ready so that the moment the script finishes, she can do a check on anything the script may have missed. At least on Section 1-7. The plan is to use the look-up formula to run this check.

Please note that she needs a glossary file, not a French – French term file like UltiMidCaps.xls

—————————-

I know, I was talking about JD too.

Anyway sent another message to clarify so nevermind.

Here you will find a version of the regular, standard glossary, which the different capitalization fixes are based on.

http://translationstop.com/files/FTP/French_Glossary_14May.xls

I hope the link is still valid.

JM and I have both our own version of the glossary that we have repaired as we proofread.

I’m not sure what you need the glossary for so you can decide what would be more appropriate.

With many thanks

Wofgang

We very much need your advice

1.- Behemoth Soul Shard = Giganten-Seelen-Scherbe

I thought we translated ‘shard’ with ‘Scherbe’, ‘Giganten’ for ‘Behemoth’ is correct.

2.-NileRiverto Square, Rally Point = Nil zum Platz, Sammelpunkt

Nordic Lands to Square, Rally Point = Nordlander zum Platz, Sammelpunkt

Initial Strength ¥§¹max = Anfangs Starke ¥§¹max

3.- Requisite item = Erforderlicher Gegenstand.

This is how I would translate it too.

Hello Alexander

Sorry, I assumed you confusing the projects.

Thank you for link.

—————————-

Thank you!

—————————-

Actually I’m not sure anymore, is around? I think she might know better than me.

I have been working on the glossary for so long that I have a lot of files based on it, I can’t remember which one is the most recent.

mentioned this one:

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/uploadedfiles_001/PR/001_JD.repair/Fixed_Glossary.zip

which might be better, but the script and the fixes are based on glossary 14may that I sent you earlier.

I don’t know what you need exactly so it’s hard to tell. There are plenty of versions around, not sure what would be best for you.

Hello Alexander

must be sleeping already, and she got deeply into her study.

Thank you!

Script still running. Had a couple false starts, so it took longer. Probably another half hour before it’s done.

So what’s next? Other than the script, how are we doing and what else need to be done?
