Upload to Folder Problem with Proofread File

I had sent you a message on the OT concerning these 2 files you proofread for me last week. Can you please upload them there on OT?

And I forgot to ask – are they spellchecked?

Thank you.

I have a filling that the coding of the message little changes. You should insert 3 small circles ( ), just how you commented bellow. It is very easy to do. You just record a macro for that.

This is how you do it: To record a macro you go to Options-Record macro-Choose the keyboard shortcut and macro name- go to target segment and type – go back to Options -Stop recording macro.

Now all you need in to press the shortcut key.

As per the guidelines it is to be placed. So which one now? As typing instead of an hyphen is a bit of a hassle. Not even talking about how easy it is to proofread a text with all that signs!

I don¢‚¬„¢t want to excuse myself, but installing and working with Transit was very difficult for me (not for others maybe), as I¢‚¬„¢m used to work with much user friendly CAT tools, and also because the numerous instructions confused me.

I have very easy instructions for beginning ans setting the system up. Please open a ticket on the OT and I will send them to you. It is also a more simple communication tool that CS, so use it to address me

My responses:

That’s the point. You HAVE to insert all terms from the glossary BEFORE you start working. It is very important that you will do that, because it assures consistency. Therefore, when beginning the translation you will not have any “red” terms left in your target text. It is very important that you will follow instructions on that.

That¢‚¬„¢s exactly what I did and indeed I¢‚¬„¢ve noticed that some terms stayed red. But IN NO CASE I changed the French terms in the glossary even I inserted them manually.

You obviously do have troubles with hyphens, if they disappear when you go to next segment. Again, this problem was addressed in lot of detail in the guidelines, and it’s a pity you did not follow them.

If you have this kind of issue with hyphens, you do not use them at all. Instead, when you need to place a hyphen, you place .

As per the guidelines it is to be placed. So which one now? As typing instead of an hyphen is a bit of a hassle. Not even talking about how easy it is to proofread a text with all that signs!

I¢‚¬„¢m waiting for your instructions about how to fix my previous files. Thanks for your help.

PS and also this system of communication, I have to do it 2-3 times before it works…

—————————-

It is really an issue of following instructions. There is one method how to remove hyphens which converted to tags, but I prefer that you would just avoid typing hyphens.

I’m translating a file and notice that my finger goes automatically to the hypen key if I don’t concentrate enough on it. So if automatically I type the hyphen, when I realize it or when I proofread the file I cannot remove the tag anymore. And the problem is still there.

What’s the solution for that?

This issue is becoming a real headache for me, even if the proofreader thinks it’s just a question of following instructions.

What can I say except of thank you?

Thank you very much!

Ever since I changed my specifications to “display short tags” I can see some blue tags in the sentences. I have two questions related to that:

1. When I import a glossary term that contains a hyphen into my target text, do I need to add my in lieu of hyphens on top of the tags ?

e.g.: imported term: Bold Frostfist which becomes poingdegel

do I need to make it poing de gel, or do I leave it as it is ?

2. Sometimes, there are words containing hyphens in the source text that are to be translated by words that do not contain hyphens in the target text. But as I do my translation in the target text, the blue tag meaning hyphen refuses to be erased. I can’t delete the tags (which I understand is a good thing) but when there are not needed in the target text, do I simply leave them at the end of sentence, after the full stop ?

e.g.: target text before translation: selfexamination.

target text after translation: examen de conscience. (no more hyphens) but the tags remain.

I am sorry I am still struggling with those hyphens but I wanted to make sure I am doing things the right way since it is the first file I am translating with the short tags displayed.

Thanks

I had just checked your file, and corrected all spacing issues. There should be a space after colon (LV: 12). No problem. Just if you are not sure – you can ask me while working it will save time, doubts, and put the problem on my head instead of yours. I accept that.

May-be it will help if I will tell you, that “\r” means line break in the code of the game. This is why there is not space before and after it.

An you did a great job on that file – it’s a brain killer, when there are so many tags.

PS: Can you take few more files? If not – just tell me, I will assign to someone else. It’s for tomorrow.

Pleased to contact you again. Thanks for your letters. Nice that you have found the lost file. Yes, you are right about typo. Sorry I was keen to contact you ASAP and did not checked properly what I sent.

Please find below next file 17s. Please looked it through. Im am not sure about some spacing matters. Unfortunately, I am not so experiened so far. The last file would be ready in about 40 minutes.

Sorry for delay. But these files from folder 17 differ from those I have already vetted.

====================

I found it! It was uploaded here, I’m sorry.

==========

No problem what so ever, just next time tell me that these are temporary files, or even add “NOT_FINAL to file name.

Now I have a problem. I am preparing files for spelling, and I noticed that I don’t have anywhere file 15s which you vetted last week. It looks like you didn’t upload it to the server. Please check it for me! I need this file very much.

Bellow you write about 15s and t, and I assume it’s a typo and you meant 17s and 17t, is that right? I am trying to mind my hand and legs in all these files.

Please let me know ASAP.

Thank you for your letter and useful piece of instructions. Please find the third uploaded file 17t and related table. Now, I have managed to find only few differences.

Concerning new assignment, I think I would be able to vet one file till tomorrow afternoon.

Best wishes

I am finishing for today. When you finish with the files, can you please upload them to OT, right to the same ticket?

And one more question – I will hopefully have more files for same thing tomorrow morning. Do you think you will be available to hep with that again?

—————————-

Thanks for sending me the files, I am working on them now and will send them back via the ticket.

I will be able to help tomorrow although I will be busy throughout the day, but can do more spellchecking for you in the evening.

All the best 🙂

morning

I confirm the receipt of the file 9h.

Thank you.

I thought would tell , but I don’t know if he did. I sent the whole file but x and y were not proofread yet. So may not know yet.

For the future, yes, I would of course like to upload problematic files to such a folder with notes attached so the translators can fix it. In the second 17 (e-r) file, left 30 to 40 segments per file untranslated, and that should be fixed also. So should I upload the .txf file (all except ‘s proofread) and to where?

Also, in the file 17 (e-r) were files that were assigned to Jens, but he has not finished them yet. Will they be sent to me later?

Regarding the spellchecking task: I can do that.

—————————-

I think we should develop it to automatized level, otherwise we will be facing an issue of a mountain of badly translated files one day before we have to deliver.

I had just created a new folder on file server for translators. It’s inside the FTP directory, and called “Files for repairing”. Please upload there files, which need to be returned to translators. Please accompany each file with a note here, stating which file to return to whom, and what in your opinion needs to be done. If you have already proofread some files to serve example, please attach them as well, but please change name of the file, adding _PROOFREAD_ before the number of the file so that translator will not begin retranslating also this one. And a note for me – which file is a reference for whom. You can also zip the file to be repaired with the reference file, telling me what is in the compressed file.

I will communicate all this to the relevant translator, copy-pasting your comments.

I believe this should create some flow of information between you and the relevant translator.

So let’s begin with and some others you may have.

Please tell me what you think.

And what about Jens? Do you mean that he hadn’t finished translating in a reasonable time or that you returned him files and he disappeared?

_____________________________________

I may need some spellchecking-issue resolving today, as the translator who worked with me yesterday is busy today until evening. Since I’m at GMT+6 I want to resolve these things before European evening. Do you think you may have time during the day for that? If no, please let me know, I will begin searching urgently for someone.

Thank you.

Here is response from translator to your glossary comments:

“Thanks for your comments on the glossary suggestions. I will see that I include everything in my work. Please note that “craftsman Annu” is indeed a woman, which is obvious from the context (see 10c segm. 212).”

Do you have a list of these non-playing characters and their gender? I would like to have it, as sometimes translators ask me this question.

Thank you.

Sorry, but I have found file German_JD_100201_Localize_Vetted__9h.xls in the folder “9/German_Vetted. Probably I should be assigned by a different file, for instance, from folder “8”?

Please accept my sincere apologies. Of course, I confused the files and assigned you a wrong one. I am very grateful that you checked it first.

If you have time, please do this one:

JD_100201_Localize_8u.xls

I apologize again. I still have not developed a marking system which would work without faults, hope to improve it this week.

there is such a list online http://001yourtranslationservice.com/translations/projects/2010/NPC_Locations.xls

(should be in the latest version of my guidelines).

I have sent them to , I think but I will upload them again here (short version and long version last update).

Maybe you could send all translators a note to please have a look at them?

Also, I have worked the list into the glossary as far as I could, but the list is not complete.

Thank you much

—————————-

It needs to be done today, preferably – before 2pm GMT.

I will have 4, may-be 5 files.

They need to be spellchecked, and if there are some small issues, they need to be resolved (0-3 issues pr file).

Do you think you can do it? I can send few files right away.

How many hours do we have? When does it need to be ready?

You did a great job yesterday finalizing the files. Thank you very much.

Can you please let me know at what time will you be available today?

—————————-

I will be free today from 3pm (Standard Greenwich Time). But you can send me the files now and I will start with them asap.

Thank you very much

—————————-

Then let’s do how you propose. I will upload several files now, and may-be few more later. I will use same OT ticket.

Now, since at 4pm GMT I must retire, the files you will complete should go to two places:

1. By e-mail to (that’s most important)

2. Please additionally upload back to OT for me

Now since I will not be there to check the files before they go to client, will probably check, but additionally I ask you to check very well each file, that there are no comments and red cells left.

Can you please do that?

Thank you very mush, I am going to upload the first few to OT.

I wish I could be helpful and will be available few hours till 7am tomorrow. Probably I could complete one rather simple file. But, I have just got new instructions from . And in addition, tomorrow I will have a busy day to complete some previous projects. Then till the end of the months I will be available almost to full extent.

I don’t know if you received my last message because it’s not in the outbox so here I go again:

First of all I’m very sorry that I haven’t replied to your messages sooner. I wasn’t able to sign in on this site because I didn’t know my username+password. told me now what they are so I’m very sorry. Now I can sign in and I promise to check the messages more often from now on. But I just want to let you know that right now my time is very limited which means if something is urgent and has to be done within a deadline then you might want to ask the other proofreaders first. I’m very busy with university right now and can only manage to spend limited time on proofreading so if something is urgent I can’t promise that I can help you. I will try though but I just want to let you know that it might take a while till I answer mails etc.

Do you still need me to check those files you asked me to in your last messages?

Once again, I’m very sorry about this…won’t happen again.

Best wishes

I understand, and I an glad you got back to me. I have right now 3 files to be checked. They need to be spellchecked and in 2 of them, small issues which came up while vetting need to be resolved (overall 3 issues). It needs to be done today ASAP. Do you think you have time for that?

Please let me know as soon as you can.

I think let’s not overload you. Do your work with , I think we can not squeeze more files into today. Please message me once you have time – started sending me French files as well, and my day has only 24 hours.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Petra

I am canceling the files I assigned you.

The work will be done by a different person.

yes I could help you with those three files today. Spellchecking would be with excel files right? They are already proofread?

Thank you very much for understanding.

I hope I will be able to assist very soon.

Thank you, but I just found that translator who does the other ones, can take also these three.

So thank you, and good luck on examinations (I guess now ends semester, right?)

Since both my translation sample and my files were positively assessed, do I need to send a larger sample?

According the the comments regarding the translation sample, I should update my glossary, but when I checked on the server, the online version is still the same as the one I have been using.

Could you clarify these issues?

Thank you.

—————————-

I feel you might have misunderstood the reason why I’m asking for a larger sample. I am asking for it, because the lead translator was impressed so much with your work, that she thinks you could may-be join the team of proofreaders. Now I am thinking – she proofread your file, so she actually saw your work on larger scale, so maybe she doesn’t need a larger sample. She didn’t know your files and sample are from same person.

As to second question – some of the segments in each file are pretranslated, and they contain some old glossary terms. Proofreader can not distinguish which segments you translated, and which are pretranslated. Therefore she recommended to everybody to update the glossary just to be sure.

I hope that clarifies.

Have a great weekend.

Hyphens are quite an issue.

1) No. Do not add additional , because when the file would be proofread and will be replaced with hyphens, you will receive a double hyphen on that spot. Actually, if you work with short tags you should see something like poingdegel, is that correct?

2) This is a problem. On one side, you can deactivate tag protection to correct this issue, and then immediately to switch it back on. On the other side, you can leave it in the end of sentence before the period. Like this we will see it in vetting. I will ask lead translator what she thinks, meantime, you can do either.

And when you were working with hidden tags, deleting this kind of English words with hyphens was not a problem?
