Proofreading Project of Available Glossary Segments

I’m not really sure about the time zone thing so I just thought I’d send you an update.

I have been working all night on the file and I’m currently 200 segments away from the end. Since I am not sure whether or not I still have time before 8:00 AM on your side, I will keep going, hopefully until the end.

If at any point you need the file, just let me know and I’ll send it right away. I will be online until the upload so feel free to drop me a line if need be.

With many thanks

We can wait a good… 4 hours, actually. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m giving myself 8 hours leeway between the proofing and sending.

Once you’re done, get some sleep.

—————————-

Thank you very much for letting me know. It is much easier to find someone to spellcheck then someone to proofread, particularly to proofread well.

I will be waiting for the 19d file.

This is to let you know that I have just uploaded 18O,Q,R,S. The files haven’t been spellchecked.

I will be working all night on 19d and will upload it as soon as possible (probably without spellcheck).

With many thanks

—————————-

Because we need a couple files translated right away. Like right now. Vetting discovers that some of the older files that was supposed to be done ages ago were turned in unfinished by their translator.

Eh, same old story. But really, if you are available this Sunday morning I can really use your skill.

—————————-

I had not received a response from you yesterday – did you receive the files for spellchecking? I had uploaded two files for spellchecking and for abbreviating to OT. Please let me know ASAP if you can do it.

—————————-

We have two files: 17u and 17v, which need to be proofread. But a further problem with them is that they had not been fully translated and have quite a few untranslated segments left. Do you think you could at least TRANSLATE the remaining untranslated segments and may-be proofread at leas one file?

Please let me know ASAP.

The files can be downloaded here:

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading/New.files_3/17_uv_FRA_tobe_proofed.PXF

Good morning

Great, that should be plenty. It’s actually the game tutorial so it’s definitely best not to mess this one up.

The file should be ready in a short while.

With many thanks

Good. You must have been tired. I know I’ve been going with 3 hours of sleep/day this past 3 days or so. Bleagh.

That said, if you actually have the strength to do more I will have no hesitation in throwing more work at you.

You’ve done a great job though. If we have two more people like you we wouldn’t be in this position.

—————————-

Good morning

No worries, the file should be ready in a short while.

Also there is a bunch of terms that should probably be reviewed quickly once the whole project has been converted back into excel format.

I will try to make a quick list once 19d is done, maybe we can improve the overall quality a touch before the deadline.

Enjoy your coffee 😉

Thank you very much for letting me know. It is much easier to find someone to spellcheck then someone to proofread, particularly to proofread well.

—————————-

I thought about it but I think it might be more useful to work on a larger scale.

I can try to make a quick list of the biggest/easiest mistakes that can be fixed via the search and replace tool in excel to cover more files at once.

This would only be feasible when the entire project is back in excel format obviously. Do you think there could be enough time for this?

I’ll finish 19d and get back to you about this

The list will be useful, yes. As for time, well, all of the files are in Excel format since last week. We’ve been using the extra time to improve the quality of the translation, replacing older Excel files with new finalised ones.

It’s actually impossible to proofread everything given our lack of people, and even now I predict there’ll be files coming until the last moment.

This doesn’t mean you should make the list. There’s no reason why the list can’t be applied on the files we have now (proofed or otherwise), and for those that deliberately chose not to proof, the list would lessen the possibility of errors.

—————————-

Okay, I have just uploaded the file on the server. I haven’t done the spellcheck so I’ll inform .

I’m not thinking clearly by now so I’ll write down all the terms I can think of for the final fixes and hope for the best.

I have also started preparing a bunch of files for the customer to make the follow up with quality/consistency issues, I’ll send everything to or one of you guys after I have enjoyed some sleep.

With many thanks

—————————-

It looks like we resolved the situation with the files I wrote about earlier, but we still do need spellchecking. Can you do that?

Please let me know.

—————————-

I have just uploaded the short list of terms we talked about. (Last fixes.xls, it’s in the translator’s files section of the interface I’m writing this message from, what’s the name again?)

This is not much, but this is all I can think of right now. All these terms should be searched in the French section only (obviously) and can be replaced safely without compromising other words.

I will inform about this so that she can provide you with the list of abbreviations which is a bit more thorough. Be careful with the abbrev. list though since some terms might be part of other terms, like “fee” could be part of “coffee” for instance. This is why I have entered spaces in the fix list.

Allright, I will go get some sleep now and I will get back to you guys later today.

With many thanks

—————————-

I have just uploaded a very short list of terms that could be checked within the files we haven’t proofread with the search & replace tool to slightly improve the quality.

I have already forwarded the instructions to but he could probably use your help. Also, some of the terms on the abbreviation list could probably be checked on the whole project using the same method mentioned above.

I don’t know if you guys will have any time at all to do that but I thought it could help.

Allright, I’m going to get some sleep now and will get back to you later today.

I’m not sure I did – could you send the files directly to [email protected] ? I’ll take care of the spellcheck this afternoon

thanks

—————————-

As I just told I’m in my family today so I’m not able to work, plus I don’t have Transit here. I’m doing my best to spellcheck some files for with Excel, but I can’t do more today, sorry.

—————————-

, would you like to try your hand at proofreading?

The truth is that I always worked as a translator and never as a proofreader, I would like to try and to see what can I do in this also.

Respectfully

—————————-

First, are you available now and until when? (make sure to mention your timezone too)

Second, had you told what rate you are charging and whether he has agreed to it? If not, please open a ticket (Category Z_get) and write down what you are charging. Unlike translation, proofing can’t be done on a per word basis.

Once all that’s sorted, welcome aboard.

—————————-

Joannie, at the moment the files we have in mind were actually translated by you, and usually we try to avoid a translator proofreading her own work.

Instead, can you be on stand-by? Vettors run into untranslated segments sometimes, even in proofread files. Perhaps it was skipped accidentally, or neglected, who knows. Normally we just turn back and tell the translator, “Hey, you forgot something.” But this is the last day and there’s no time for that back-and-forth. We need someone who can translate on the spot.

Usually would also have the person to do some spellchecking, but right now is out. Go ahead and watch TV, but please check your email every half hour and see whether needs you for something.

—————————-

Ok, I’ll keep in touch!

Joannie

—————————-

sorry, I didn’t check my PC at all until now as I had lots of other things to catch up with. Have you had the file from since?

please let me know otherwise I’ll upload it.

I’ll reply to your other requests right away.

—————————-

I have no availability tomorrow at all and this afternoon I have to focus on more urgent stuff, if it can wait Tuesday, then I’ll proofread section 3 from Tuesday onwards.

—————————-

Don’t worry about 1a. eventually got it from .

As for proofreading, forget it. I had hoped to do the proofreading during the weekend, because by Monday we will have moved on the next project. Got to end this one sometime, you know. 🙂

—————————-

I can do the translations, but I haven’t got the time to do the proofreading I think, as I am tied up with 2 other projects this afternoon and tomorrow, so I am just cramming the translation in as you need it urgently. However I will reassess after I have seen the files, if they are straightforward, how about that?

—————————-

can you confirm that I should translate the 2 files (the missing chunks).

I don’t want to start before you confirm.

We had them translated by now, so don’t worry.

Thank you.

ok!

—————————-

I started working on section 4 and I realized that the terms in file 4a are inconsistent with the latest glossary. All the words have been capitalized too.

Checking the segments one by ine against the glossary will be too time consuming, I will not be able to take care of this section.

On the bright side, I completed sections 5 and 3.

JM

—————————-

requested PMs not to exchange contact details with translators and not to contact them directly. I respect that, though agree that it could simplify things.

In any case, I uploaded to translators files server – FTP folder -Comments and Files sub-folder-files for sub-sub-folder few files.

They need to be spellchecked, and the terms abbreviated to 31char length. I run on the files a special macro, which marks cells the content of which is longer then 31char yellow.

Please spellcheck and abbreviate the yellow cells (ignore if the cell is some sentence, only proper names, which are with capital letters are important).

To make the abbreviation process easier, I pasted in each file in cell C1 another macro, which shows the number of the characters in the cell in column B. You need to drag it or paste it in column C next to the cell you are checking.

And finally, I am attaching the 31char macro file – all you need to do is to have the file open along with the files you are working on, and press Ctrl+Q shortcut. Then it will color all lines which contain more then 31 chars yellow. It is less comfortable to use when working on a particular cell, because you don’t know exactly how many characters do you need to reduce, but it is useful to check the file once your finished that really everything is fine.

As you know, we are running out of time, and the files are urgent.

Please confirm.

Can you help out with translations then?

For example:

Ask Sada how to become a master of dry humor.+

If you want my title, you must find three dry humor jokes in one day.+

What’s a good translation for those?

—————————-

what’s the name of the macro file?

can’t find it..

I guess it didn’t get uploaded. I now put it to the same directory, and it’s called 31. Did you find the small macro inside the files for telling the number of characters? It’s very convenient, you just paste it next to the cell you are checking and you’ll se how the changes you make affect the number of characters.

Hi Kenax

as per your last mail, writing here to request a file so I can get started on the new project. What is it called, btw?

I’ll work on the list of translators/comments etc today too, so you can expect that by the end of the day.

Thanks

—————————-

I guess for now we finished, but we may need to do something later today.

This macro you wrote for counting characters is SUPER!!! So convenient in combination with the 31chars macro which makes the cells yellow. Do you mind if I use it for other file?

I’m available now, if you still need help with translation, proofreading or spell-checking

Yes, please do feel free to use this formula as much as you want, if this can help the project or yourself!!! 🙂

I hope I’ll be working soon with you on this second project!

—————————-

I am sorry for my late reply but I have only just come back from my trip.

I guess you don’t need me anymore for those files but I just wanted to let you know that I am available for work again.

we are doing the glossary first and since you are our lead translator, no one else is better qualified to proofread the glossary.

So please download and proof the following file.

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading/German/Book3_reduced_DEU_tobe_proofed.PXF

Once that’s done, upload it the usual way and we’ll get it exported back into Excel and as a dictionary too.

Not right away, but in about 24 hours the translation of the glossary for the new project should be done, and we’d like you to proofread it right away.

I should awfully apoogize for not answering your letter.

Actually, last time I checked the inbox April, 26.

Then I spent a couple of weeks offline due to my preplanned holiday.

I do regret that I was not that helpful, when you really need my assistance. I hope you have successfully completed your last complicated project.

I should say that it has been very pleasant for me to work with you.

I feel that you a very nice and friendly person. It is a pity that

start of our cooperation coincided with tense period both for Kenax and me. Till the mid April I have completed my previous projects, but felt so exhausted and had a stupid non-witty mind. I have tried to do my best with , but haste and night contacts made me nervous and I failed to be helpful to functional extent. Please forgive me.

Best wishes

Hello

I tried to send you the times for proofreading (my updated file) three times and I don’t know why it never works but I always get a failure message from www.boxbe.com 🙁

I sent you the excel file before and I was just wondering which file is the last on it? If you tell me I could tell you the missing files/times if there are any. Sorry for the inconvinience I really don’t know why it doesn’t work anymore.

I also wanted to let you know that I won’t be able to participate in the next project because of time issues with university.

Good luck with the project, you’ll make it even better than the first one! 😀

Best wishes

If the 31 character limitation still applies, it might be worth mentioning to the other translators. They should also keep track of the abbreviations they use (on an Excel that we can easily update) so that we can try to remain consistent as much as possible.

Let me know if you have questions.
