Proofreading Files from the Translated Glossary

thanks for your message, I have already translated and sent the file named …8z and I just sent as well file …18r to Kosman.

I would be glad if you can assign a new file to me.

I’m one of the project manager and I’m trying to get a sense of how far along everyone is.

My notes show that you’re working on 8z and 18r. Is that right? How far along are you?

—————————-

Thank you for your reply.

I’m not interested in discussing this matter with a person barking at me. I always recognise my mistakes, but with polite people.

As I said, I also reviewed translations of other translators, and also sometimes I had to spend more time than I was paid. I just did it without badly commenting their work.

No need to send me whatsoever, as I discussed with , I’m not part of this project any more. I’ve already uninstalled Transit and deleted all the files from my computer.

Uh, don’t. I just checked the download folder and I am not seeing it.

Upload it to the general file upload server instead.

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/newsystem/cgi-bin/up_1001_TR.cgi

I would be glad if you can assign a new file to me.

I’ll let know you’re available but I don’t have the authority to assign files to translators.

—————————-

I just spoke about it with . Please upload your latest glossary in Excel to the server, to Glossary folder in the Translator’s section. If there is already a German glossary from – please replace it if you have a more updated one. So that on the server would be only one German glossary in Excel.

Thank you.

Regarding the proper names:

Yes, good thinking on these terms and of course you may proceed in the described manner. Shortening to 31 characters probaby refers to compounds of proper names too.

Regarding the dictionary.

I will upload the dictionary in zipped format on the virtual office site. , however, has expressed concern that if translators and proofreaders will have to consult an Excel sheet it could slow them down. So I would like to ask you if you can get confirmation from him before you forward the file to the proofreaders.

Thank you very much and sorry for answering so late.

The thing is, I have 2 glossary files now:

– The glossary with all the corrections I brought a few weeks ago (I don’t know if this glossary has ever replaced the very old one)

– A file with all the new glossary entries AND the new latest corrections.

If I mix both files to make one complete, up to date glossary, there are going to be duplicates so I will need to spend some time working on it if necessary (especially if this file is later converted in Transit Format).

If this is just to help proofreaders/translators for quick reference, they can still use both files separately in that order:

– 1st they should check the term in the update file;

– If it’s not there, they can check the bigger glossary file;

– That’s it!

Please let me know if you still want me to spend some time merging both files.

With many thanks

I just wanted to let you know that the file named 13h,i,m,o,p,q_Aroux_proofreading should not be processed further.

sent me new instructions for the spellcheck stage so I will update the file accordingly. I guess you can even remove it from the server if you want (plus I forgot to mention it’s for the French translation).

Sorry about the inconvenience

With many thanks

—————————-

Don’t mess with them. If will decide to transfer the glossaries to Transit, he may ask you to merge them, but meantime no need.

Can you please upload both most recent ones to server? I found out that you probably don’t have access to upload to Glossaries folder. So please upload both to Comments to proofreaders folder.

About the Glossary:

I found out that you probably don’t have access to upload to Glossaries folder. So please upload both to Comments to proofreaders folder.

Sorry for the delay.

I’m currently working on 14g and 14m, not 18g nor 18m.

I’ll be done with these files by tomorrow midday.

Are you replacing or are you an additional PM?

I’m. I’m a new project manager. Have lots to learn still, but hopefully I’ll be able to get in the groove fast.

I’ve been asked to check on how’s everyone doing and my notes show that you’re working on 18g and 18m. Is that right? How far along are you?

I noticed that many segments marked as translated by Transit after having pressed ALT+ENTER are in fact sometimes full of errors (capitals at the wrong place, missing hyphens, locations and/or items left untranslated) and sometimes some segments are not translated at all, while they’re marked as translated. I’m wondering if the bad comments I received from the proofreader aren’t due to this problem. Have you ever heard about it? Maybe I have to re-check the whole files, but one told me not to do that, as I’m not paid for these segments.

I really want to find a way to resolve it cause I don’t want to receive bad comments from proofreaders anymore for something I didn’t do.

Also, told me I could find a link to the GS googlesheet on the instructions.html page on the fileserver, but the only link redirects to the Accounting_web googlesheet, so I don’t understand what that GS googlesheet is… He told me I could find in it the percentage of my work, but I don’t know what he means.

I uploaded both files in one zip file on the server in the translator’s section.

By “server” I believe you meant the “new server” ? This is where I uploaded it:

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/newsystem/cgi-bin/up_1001_TR.cgi

I don’t have access to anything besides the proofreader and translator sections on the new server.

Please let me know if you need me to upload it somewhere else

With many thanks

I realize you’re busy, but if you have the time, would it be possible to take a look at the some of the new translators’ works?

This isn’t proofreading. You don’t have to fix them. We just want an assessment on how good the new translators are.

I know. The other was wondering why I’m asking him about 14g and 14m. Turns out there are twos, and I’m asking him about your files and you about his. Ooops.

It’s all been sorted though.

Are you replacing or are you an additional PM?

I’m an additional PM. is very busy. 🙂

Let me know which files I should assess and I will do it for you.

—————————-

I still have plenty of files to work on.

If the proofreading work you need is a priority though (urgent, important file, very low quality, etc.), I can put my current work on hold and take care of it right away .

Otherwise, I would rather finish my current load. The deadline is quickly approaching and I don’t want to end up with more files that I can handle.

regarding your files, you may have to proofread your own file. We’re running really short on available proofreaders.

Let me know which files I should assess and I will do it for you.

Thank you!

Go to the file server for the translators.

http://001yourtranslationservice.com/cgi-bin/ls_1001_TR.cgi

You’ll find the files from Dario_7 and Dario_11. Can you please take a look at them?

Oh, those are two different people, by the way

—————————-

I’ve just uploaded the 16k file. Hope it’s okay. I’ll upload the next file ASAP.

Thank you.

—————————-

which files have actually been proofread?

You sent three PXF files. Those PXF files have 6, 8, and 8 FRA files respectively.

If they’re all identical I’ll just Receive them all, but on some files the checksums are different.

Can you tell me which ones are actually done?

—————————-

The batch I uploaded last night contained 13b, 13c, 13d, 13e.

I still have to proofread 13f & 13g

I’ve uploaded the dictionary to the proofreading folder.

I have uploaded for you all files of 17 that I proofread. Those were a,b,c,d,s,t,f,g,o,p,q,r,e. I sent back to : x and y and to h,i,j. Jens, who had been assigned k,l,m,n were not in the file I received for proofreading. It seems that the files I sent back for correction to and have got stuck somewhere and since I did not receive them back or any feedback other that ‘s files had not the final version, I have not continued on those but did file 07 (b,c,d).

I’m sorry, but I do not know about the state of the 17 files.

I’m awaiting your instructions on how to proceed from now, but I can only continue proofreading after Friday

The filenames (sorry for not complying with naming routines, will do next time) are: proofread17 , proofread17_2 and 7_date_ or similar.

—————————-

Please try to prepare for me as many files as possible and as early as possible. I understood from you may have an issue with Transit with exporting to Excel, in this case please make for a list of files he can export for me.

The more files will go to vetting-spellchecking today, the higher is the chance we will make it on time.

Thank you.

—————————-

Okay, after you sent in that last file you didn’t say whether you want more proofreading work.

There’s probably not going to be any translation work until next Monday at the least, unless someone suddenly drops out. But a lot of files need to be proofread.

What do you say?

—————————-

I asked you yesterday to assign me further files but haven’t got a reply yet. I have still one file left but after that I would like to continue proofreading otherwise I won’t be able to manage 10 files over this weekend.

Sorry. I have been very busy. I really did mean to get back to you sooner.

You can find 5 files over here. More coming.

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading//

Hmm, not right away though. That server seems to be down. But it’ll be uploaded as soon as it gets back up.

and me are ready for new files. Could you please send file 19 to us?

—————————-

—————————-

Just added another file.

I’ll keep as the translators turn in their file until you get your 10. Check tomorrow.

Pay attention to 14b and 14j as they have lots of untranslated words. Some are Chinese, which is normal, but double-check anyway.

okay, thanks. also assigned me with 6 more files so that’s enough for starters (together with the files you assigned me). Maybe I will manage to do more than those…if that is the case I will let you know asap!

Cool, I’ll assign the rest to others. Mind you, if those 12 turns out to be too many, let us know ASAP!

And which files did assign to you? I want to make sure I don’t accidentally assign the same files to another.

I can do some proofreading today if you want to send me some files.

Allright, send them to me. It would make my job a lot easier if you could send files with very low % of pretranslations (otherwise it’s pretty difficult to know what the translator actually translated).

There’s 8 new files. You should be able to tell from the name, but just in case, they are 14b, 14e, 14k, 14nop, 14s, and 14u.

Can you please tell us what you think about Dario (both) and Fabienne?

Also if there’s anything glaringly bad from anyone else.

I’m also going to ask you to try something new.

First, after you finish the first file, try Exporting it (just that single file) and see if it works. If it works you should end up with an Excel file. Send it to me. If not, just let me know.

Second, I want you to send the .COD files too, if any. When you Send, go to More Options and check the send *.cod files field.

Again, if it doesn’t work, it’s fine. Just uncheck it and do it as before.

—————————-

You’ve assigned me a few files. I don’t know how much I will be able to do today, depending on the quality of the translations.

I’ll do as much as I can.

I will let you know about Fabienne and Dario once I have checked their work.

Some of them you’re already proofreading.

Dario_1 did 18c.

did 18n.

We could use a second opinion of Dario7. Please go to

http://translationstop.com/files/Proofreading//

and download the file marked with Dario7’s name and take a look at it.

There’s another guy, but he hasn’t turned in his files yet, so eh, forget about him for the moment. 🙂

In the last files I translated, “Regenesis array” was translated by “Bouclier de regenese”, and I left it as it was, since “array” has been translated by “bouclier” in the dictionary. However, in 14b, the expression has been translated by “coffret de regenese”.

So, I am not sure which is right…

Ahaha. I wouldn’t know. The subtleties of French are beyond me. probably doesn’t either, but ask her anyway because the translator may have sent her a note.

You can try asking in the forum. Or maybe directly to_B.

Until you get an answer though, maybe skip that segment and come back on it later.

If after waiting for a while there’s still no answer or no consensus, stick with the dictionary. In meanwhile, I’ll ask who lead translator for French is and contact her/him.

—————————-

I have proofread 6 files so far and here are the comments I made about them:

10a and 10b:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Spaces missing in front of ? and !

The translator forgot to delete some English sentences (seg.63) + random words. Could be avoided with better proofreading.

Few typos + spelling mistakes (comme, prophetes)

fleurissanteeÂť replaced with florissanteeÂť

Inconsistency in the translation of some names of places (Wildlands)

Few untranslated English words (the Billows, Doom Bog)

Few negations missing (Je ne suis PAS sur)

Few grammar mistakes (accords et terminaisons part. passe)

Missing hyphens and unneeded hyphens

Missing accents (s¢‚¬„¢il vous plaa®t, entraa®nement)

A couple of full stops missing

10c:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Accents missing (ga¢teau)

Inconsistency with names of places (Cave instead of Grotte)

Noun gender mistake (jade is masculine, flasque is feminine)

Missing letters at end of words

Few untranslated English words (The)

Few words/parts of sentences have not been translated (Ragged clothes, go to theOneMountain) A bit worrying when repeated.

Grammar mistakes (accord sujet-verbe, confusion infinitif/vb conjugue)

A lot of typos (needs better proofreading)

Spelling mistakes (esperer, Mountagne, pa®quer)

Few sentence structures are a bit clumsy, because the translator sticks too much to the way English sentences are built.

Confusion in the understanding of some English expressions (at the same time ¢° en permanence, if you need help ¢° si vous pouvez m¢‚¬„¢aider [sens oppose], donate = faire don de)

One segment is untranslated but marked as translated.

Plural translated by singular (the Nanbu Wizards ¢° le sorcier Nanbu)

10d and 10e:

Capital initials when not needed (common nouns)

Informal addressing (tu)

Mixup in pronoun translation (you ¢° je)

Few typos

Noun gender confusion (jaspe is masculine)

Some English words left untranslated (Alas)

Inconsistency in translation of names of places (Cave of Ancient Tales, Forest of Rot, Incense Valley)

Grammar mistakes (accord sujet-vb, accord nom-adj. qualificatif, accord part.passe, confusion vb conjugue/infinitif)

Conjugation mistakes (viva instead of vecut, tuyiez instead of tuiez)

The translator forgot to delete some English sentences.

Mistranslation of part of a segment (hurleciel instead of hurlelune)

A lot of spelling mistakes (quelques temps, briot, dixaines, exile, singlant, ambuscade, citarre, furet…)

10e file was much better quality than 10d.

10g:

Few typos

Spelling mistakes (da®tes instead of dites, baton instead of ba¢ton, appeller instead of appeler, acceuillir instead of accueillir, et bien instead of eh bien)

Grammar mistakes (accord sujet-verbe, accord part. passe, structure negative : je n¢‚¬„¢en n¢‚¬„¢ai aucune idee)

Conjugation mistakes (confusion indicatif futur/conditionnel present, apres que+indicatif)

Some clumsy expressions (visiter instead of rendre visite)

Inconsistency in translation of names of places (Petalgrave Valley)

Mixup between plural and singular (tout/tous, the serpents ¢° le serpent)

Missing spaces in front of ? and !, no capital letter after ; and no space after ¢‚¬Ëœ

Misunderstanding of some English sentences

Missing hyphens (imperatif : Laissez-moi) and unneeded hyphens (s¢‚¬„¢il-vous plait, Y-a-t-il)

Missing accents (s¢‚¬„¢il vous plaa®t)

Lots of English terms left untranslated (Indigo Snakes, Wansha Hall, Seven Mile Cave)

I also wanted to say that all the files I proofread so far have been spellchecked through Word.

I prepared a Word document with all the comments. Would it be possible to send it to you directly, so I wouldn’t have to copy-paste every comment in that message box?

In 14b, the gender of Lil Baba is changing in the source text.

For instance:

Lil Baba has been in charge of the Vim since their former leader died. -We will have a better chance of winning if he supports us. -Would you please persuade him?

After the death of Master Vim, Lil Baba is in charge of Vim. -She once said she would lead disciples of Vim to help Jadeon if we could kill the Shaodu Lookout

Shall I leave it as it is, or do you know the gender of Lil Baba?

What I always suggest to all translators to do is NOT to Alt+Ins the segment as you translate it, but to use Ctrl+plus to pass to the next untranslated one. In this way, your segments remain “not translated” in Transit. Having finished translation, you just return to beginning and carefully proofread the first “untranslated” segment, which you actually already translated. And only then press Alt+ins. This solves lot of issues, especially allowing you to proofread only the words you are paid for.

If you were not proofreading the files, it is very much possible that this is the source of the negative comments, because we always make mistakes when translating, it is just not possible to avoid them. In such case i believe proofreading should solve most of the issues.

GS is the Accounting sheet. There you can see how many words in the files were pretranslations and how many were untranslated words. This way you can calculate which percent of the total word count did you translate.

You can download an updated Excel glossary file from translators’ server -glossary subfolder. There is a zipped file of French glossary, and inside is the updated main, and additional with new terms.

I hope it helps.
