Translation Agency Translator Proofread Project

Translations email archives - January 26

We have a medium size proofreading job. this time in Greek and Turkish. A zip file of each language is attached. There are approximately 15,000 English words. with a lot of repeats.

okay, cancellation of this project acknowledged. Frankly, you are not leaving much room to make these projects economically viable for me, and I don't think my translators would appreciate being approached with these prices and conditions. But if you ever need help with a real project you know where to reach me. And for small piddly projects, my minimum rate should be around 30$, but I'll let you know if it is different for any particular case. Please only approach me with larger projects.

I think its okay, it was just a simple assignment. Whats important is to get this bid, and get the best translators for it. By the way, whats the time frame of this project? i.e. when we will know we will get it or not. Best Regards,

I'm still in the tender phase and the company farming out these translations for Panasonic itself does not know when the translation will start. I will contact you as soon as something comes up.

I've been looking at your charges for the assessment work:

assessing samples Arab

Thank you for your message, for the assessment prices I suggest the

following:

The sample size was 90 word

Assessment price=$0.02

Number of samples=80

Total= $ 144.

And so far it is much higher than anyone else's charge. Furthermore, although there are about 80 samples to assess, you only assessed 54 of them (check below), out of which 31 were either a wrong language pair or no translation pair, meaning you would have not really assessed them. Please adjust your final charge accordingly. I am stretching myself pretty thin for this tender and need to watch the costs.

My charges for the assessment of translation samples are 28,50 US$ as of invoice kena07/01 - 1, which I sent you on January 3rd. Just in case, I will attach it once more. Please note that I agreed in my email from January 6th to extended your period for payment of translation work to 45 days since delivery of the assessmants. This would be February 15th. Unfortunately the accounting page is still not displaying any of the jobs I did for you. I also checked again the payment information for one PayPal account and one with a German bank. They are correct.

okay, I put your assessment charges into my accounting, but do not believe you sent me your charge for the translation of the final sample for Panasonic. The charge itself is fine and you do not need to send me an invoice. Once I get the charges for the other translators, I will upload my accounting data, after which you will find it on the website. If you are in dire need of cash let me know and I will see what I can do. Otherwise, as I believe we agreed, I'm spreading myself thin on this tender and would rather pay the extra interest for a later payment, as I have not had much work lately.

As you already know we perform translation jobs and we proof our own jobs. I do not perform proofing of other's translations. Thank you for understanding and I look forward to receive translation and DTP jobs from you.

yes, I remembered that later, and now I updated your record in my database with this translator information to help remind me for next time. It is hard to remember everything with so many projects and translators.

I can proofread it in one day. My fee will be $200.I will charge the same for quality control. Attached please find my CV. Thank you.

it turns out that this customer's budget was too low to make it interesting for anyone, so I have stopped my cooperation with this customer. In the meantime, if you have not done so already, please submit a translation sample to our Active Tenders link, in the Panasonic project (http://001yourtranslationservice.com/, Translators link, Login, Active Tenders link). Not only is there the big Panasonic translation project but we are launching our first major marketing campaign in search of customers, so I hope to start sending you lots of interesting translation work in the near future.

> Would you please find my proofread files as attached?

sorry that you misunderstood me and went ahead with the proofread. Please do not mention "a percentage"! That's not what I meant. I regularly look at Proz mostly because of Visitors option; I can see who has visited my profile and I'm curious to see who's interested in my services... And yes, I want to see open jobs but when there's a job that matches my criteria Proz (and other agencies I'm registered with) send me a notification. I more or less regularly look at Proz, globtra, trally, linguistfinder, translatorsbase - and check for Czech to English translation jobs as well. I'd be happy to help you and that's all. Dont' be surprized, I do the same for my friends and colleagues... Does it mean that you don't mind my tips? There's much more potential jobs for you but I ignore them if offered rate is too low (e.g. IT job 0.05 $ per source word!!!!).

sorry, I forgot you don't like the percentage thing. This is just a standard thing I offer to everyone. Even my brother made a good commission on a big project he got for me at the company where he works. Anyway, I could argue that my greatest strength is between Dutch and English, because I have quality and competitively priced people in this language combination. Recently I have found and tested good translators from English into many languages, and I am not especially strong in Czech. That is just a regular language for me. In fact, I can say I'm weaker in that language, because I recently did a large translation into five languages, 220,000 words each, and the Czechs performed so miserably I was prepared to erase that language from my offer. Fortunately I found a few quality translators and they practically had to retranslate everything. I am not impressed with the general Czech at all. I'd say I wouldn't go below 0.08 USD/word, which is a competitive price for companies, but maybe not so competitive against others on Proz. I am good at large multi language projects that need to be done in a short time. Otherwise, I'm not so optimistic of winning any tender through proz, but I can always try. Right now I'm getting closer to Antalya and its nice to be back in shorts and shirt weather. Although I seem to be the only one around here dressed like that. I guess I'm just a hot blooded Canadian.

sending you my latest proofread of the translation and I must say that a lot of the parts do not make great sense to me, so I will be looking into this more and perhaps getting a third person to look at it. In the attached file you will see my changes, and the < character pointing (to the left) those words or sentences that are not clear to me.

attached you will find my proofread so far of your translation and I must say it was not very clear to me, did not seem as good as I hoped based on your original sample, and does not have a very native English feel to it. So the proofread went rather slow and I am afraid I may have to hire a third person to look at it. Unless you can fix those parts I found unclear and which I marked with a < character (pointing to the left and referring to either a word or an entire sentence, if at the end). The quality does not seem worthy of the price you quoted and I hope we can sort this out somehow.

can you take a look at the attached files and tell me what you think? It is the translation for which you already provided a sample. This girl seemed good quality but it turns out that proofreading her work was not as easy as I hoped. Furthermore, a lot of points don't seem clear to me, or possibly the wrong choice of terminology. I marked the text with a < character pointing to the left those words or an entire sentence which did not make so much sense to me. What would you charge to clarify this for me? I just need your price for now.

Do you need me to proofread the entire translation or just the marked segments? I normally charge proofreading at 0.008EUR/word. For the two complete files that would be about 15EUR. Otherwise, it just depends on the word count. There is no minimum fee.

I think the < marked parts should be enough. I can worry about the style but I just need to confirm that she got the meaning right. I will wait for a response from her and one other person before deciding. Will you be available over the weekend?

Please translate the document i've sent in English and Russian. You can translate into document, not online! French will be in a second step.

English translation done and I proofread it once, but I am not entirely happy with it, and want the translator to look at it again (my changes and comments), and maybe get one other person involved to help. The Russian translator said he should be done on Monday, but then I still need to get it proofread. I can send you what English I have prepared so far if you like. You still did not respond whether you want US or UK English style. The translator said she chose something in the middle. For the English, I'm tempted to get it proofread by the expensive translator, who can control it against the original as well, but I would need your permission for this. I'd say without him that the overall quality would be rather good, it's just that for such a small amount of text and considering its important marketing material, I personally would rather invest more to make it the best possible. I will leave this up to you though.

so far you are by far my best German to English translation translator, but your price was too high for this customer. Anyway, I am trying to convince it to invest a bit more, considering that it is not that much text, it is important marketing material, and I am not so happy with what I have produced of the translation so far. The girl I tested seemed to produce a better sample than the actual translation, and it was hard work proofreading her work. In fact, I am uncertain about a lot of the terminology and parts. Anyway, I was wondering if you would be interested in checking the attached files, and what your price would be. You will find the originals and my proofread files, showing my changes. I put a < character pointing to the left words or entire sentences which seemed unclear to me. For now I would just like to know your opinion on what you would charge, if interested, to focus on these parts and give the final translation a quick sweep. I still need to hear from the customer if it is willing to invest some more into this translation. So please do not commence but just give me your opinion.
