My favourite is the New International Magazine. The quality of the publication seems similar to something like The Economist, although they seem dedicated to bringing awareness of the evils that take place in the new global order. Through them I have found useful links to other news sources, and links to some good charities abroad. Below is a list (organised alphabetically according to how I had them in different folders) I have compiled while surfing or from the link above, but I have not had time to research all of them extensively. If some of them do not seem appropriate, feel free to tell me and I'll have a closer look at them. Democracy Now - articles, or you can watch her program on the internet. Very good. Noam Chomsky - one of the greatest intellectuals of our time, this MIT linguistics professor tears apart the system from ground up. Naomi Klein - an excerpt from her latest book: Around the world in Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, there are people with power who are cashing in on chaos; exploiting bloodshed and catastrophe to brutally remake our world in their image. They are the shock doctors. Thrilling and revelatory, The Shock Doctrine cracks open the secret history of our era. Exposing these global profiteers, Naomi Klein discovered information and connections that shocked even her about how comprehensively the shock doctors' beliefs now dominate our world - and how this domination has been achieved. Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed.
Tom Dispatch - a
good look at the state of things and a detailed examination of America's
military bases around the world. AlterNet MEGALOMEDIA The voice of globalization - NI 333 - Keynote Empires of the senseless Alternative,
Liberal & Underground News Sources 9-11 CitizensWatch We are concerned citizens challenging the official story of
9-11 ActForChange Biblioteca Pleyades - quite an interesting source of many articles from many sources.
I sent the below letter to my parents. Education
can often start closest to home. Just read some articles on the internet that I
thought might interest you. I was talking with a friend and the subject came up concerning
potential Jewish lobby power in Anyway, thanks to the internet, it is now possible to find reading from independent journalists, who write what they know and what they want, not what the chief editor tells them to write about. And you might ask yourself, “Why should I trust what I read on the internet?” Well, you can easily ask yourself the same concerning what you read that is delivered to your doorstep every morning. Who controls the magazine? Nobody controls the person publishing these articles on the internet. But it is good to ask such discerning questions – both of what you read on the internet and what you read on paper. It is possible to learn who are quality, reputable and informed journalists, and there are ways to confirm the validity of journalistic claims. This makes a responsible citizen. Just accepting at face value what you read in the press is not a good way to go about things. Many things are happening in the world now that we should be aware of. I think these two articles are quite eye-opening and, if you manage to read or believe in any of it, hope it inspires you to seek out better news sources available on the internet. There are a lot of quality journalists who risk their lives to research what is happening in some countries in the world, who really dig down to the truth, but whose articles would never make it into the mainstream media. That is because the mainstream media is geared mostly towards increasing consumption and maintaining the status quo. It rarely dares to stand against the existing institutional powers. Hopefully happy reading! http://www.pej.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=5665&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0 http://www.cpj.org/ - Committee to Protect Journalists. Like Anna above, many journalists who follow their convictions to dig to the heart of the truth and reveal to us injustices that are rampant in the world risk their very lives in doing so. Not only is it our responsibility to educate ourselves of what is really going on, if we care about social justice, we should also take measures to support these journalists, lest their light be extinguished by the controlling powers and, by our ignorance that this inevitably leads to, we allow repeats of history such as World War II. |
