Mission statement.
There's nothing worse than slaving away at a translation, or other work for a distant customer, and not get paid for it. It has happened to us a few times, which is why we have created this easy form to fill, so that translators can share their experiences with each other. The comments posted by other translators is viewable in an easy to navigate database, which you can view by logging in to our translator database. While logged in, we would be happy if you could fill in your information in the Translator Application form so that we could approach you with translation work. If you are not a translator, perhaps you could fill in the HR Application form, which is for all other work which can be transferred over the internet (website design, programming, graphics, transcriptions, data processing and other work). If you would like to post a comment about a remote company you worked for which is not a translation agency, make sure to state what type of company they are in the "Category" box above. Based on this submitted information we will eventually add the categories in a drop down menu. In this age of globalisation, an increasing amount of people will work from their home, and we hope that this system will help police and regulate the payment practices of companies which farm out such work. This text is not such interesting reading because it is
primarily designed to help improve this page's rankings on search
engines. After all, one may have the best database in the world what concerns
comments posted by translators regarding the payment practices and reputation
of different translation companies, but if the global translator community is
not aware of such a freely available database, it would be rather useless,
wouldn't it? There are a few other services out there (some of them listed
below) which offer such comments,
but they charge something, or it can be difficult to gain access to the
information, which we do not prefer. I believe the power of such a forum and
database lies in the robustness of its comments and its easy accessibility.
Which is why I have added this text you are no reading at the bottom of this
page, in an endeavor to improve
this page's rankings and make it more accessible to translators who seek
information on potential payment problems they might experience from their
future translation clients. It is certainly not interesting reading but a
rambling of words designed to stuff in such important keywords as translations,
translator, payment practices, reputation, and other related words. Of course,
over time, I will be tweaking this page as I discover other important words.
Search engine optimisation is all about tweaking. Like playing with google in a
big sandbox.
We have not been paid for our hard work several times in the past, which is why
I have developed a strong conviction to make such a database freely available to
the global translator community. As a translation agency offering language
services, nonpayment can be more painful than when a translator does not get
paid for their hard work. When a translator does not get paid, it only
represents a loss of some of their time. But when an agency mediating translation services
does not get paid, not only does it represent a loss of time, but it represents
a significant loss of profits as well. If a translation company charges 30% on
top of whatever the translator charges, most of that markup may go towards
regular and fixed costs, such as rent and labour. Some of that will then be
profits. But when non-payment occurs, it means that profits must be drawn from
as many as 10 other equally sized translation projects to cover the losses,
considering that the actual profits might only make up only 10% of the final
price to the customer, after paying all related translation, labour and fixed
costs. Hence you understand our frustration when subjected to such an injustice
and our willingness to make such a database available to the global translator
community. In this increasingly global age, especially for translators, who tend
to work freelance and from home more than any other profession, abuse of
nonpayment can become a rampant problem, making the existence of such easily
accessible databases more necessary. The more translators that are aware of such
a service, the more we will be able to police the poor practices of certain
translation agencies and the bad apples. And a good moderator of such a service,
while communicating with the translators taking part in the forum, can keep
track of those agencies who frequently change their names and who start up again in
an attempt to absolve themselves of their debts. The moderators of this payment
reputation database see this all the time, and it is important to keep this
information up to date.
