A Child's View There is nothing quite so arresting as the confused face of a child. What draws us to it is the hope that we can put to ease a restless mind. That through an act of kindness, or a few choice words, we would be able to make a very hard world an easier place to understand. But hidden in this sincerity lies a truth, of which many of us are unwilling to speak. For such an act is not done solely for the benefit of the child, but also for our own aid. Because the mind we wish to comfort is most often our own. For the child is looking at the world we have turned our backs on, and is feeling overwhelmed. To prevent ourselves from feeling the same, we ask him to change his mood, to change his face, so that we do not have to be reminded of how disabled we have become.
